Mandalore had become a pacifist society under the rule of the Duchess Satine, Bo Katans sister. Bo was 2nd in command of Death Watch which was a group that wanted to restore Mandalore to its warrior traditions. Bo broke from Death Watch after the leader was killed by Darth Maul and he took control of Death Watch and Mandalore. Maul killed the Duchess. The Republic sent in a Clone battalion by the request of former Jedi Ashoka Tano to help Bo Katan retake Mandalore. Mandalore was retaken, order 66 occured, the Empire rose to power, Mandalore was crushed because they posed an extreme risk to the Empire. Other than the Jedi, the Mandalorians were the only people that could pose a real risk to Palpatine.

According to canon, that is the exact same droid. He was a Rebel sympathizer on Tatooine long before Owen tried to buy him. He popped his cap on purpose because R2-D2 asked him to, so Artoo could get free of the Jawas and complete his mission to find Obi-Wan. Arfive played dead in the Jawas' sandcrawler when the Stormtroopers attacked it and afterward, he was a free droid. He somehow found his way to the Rebellion and joined them (that part of Arfive's past is hazy, but according to canon, he was a part of the Rebellion and fought in battles like R2-D2). He came back to Tatooine after the Battle of Endor and entered into Peli Motto's service, like those three pit droids she's got that we saw in Episode I working for podracer Ody Mandrell.

So in terms of Bo-Katan you don't miss much that the Mandalorian show doesn't explain.
In the show Bo-Katan was part of Death Watch, left the group, and was gathering an army to reclaim the planet Mandalore. She needed the Darksaber before she could conquer as that would give her the right to rule. Her and Mando hunt Moff Gideon and Gideon reveals that in order for Bo-Katan to truly claim the Darksaber she must earn it through glorious combat.
The show hasn't yet told us why she won't fight Mando for the Darksaber especially when she doesn't have to kill him. I think she truly values Mando as an ally and doesn't want to cause anymore fighting among them, as that made their culture weak. She wants them united as whole.
And now your caught up! Super excited to know the rest of her story!

I love that Grogu uses the Force to spin the chair! After him supressing and hiding his abilites for years, its great to see him being more comfortable with using it thanks to his relationship with Din.
Even though he chose to leave Luke and the Jedi way (possibly just for now atleast) to be with Din, he still has enormous potential to do good in the Galaxy. Yoda lived for 900 years and probably influenced The Republic and the Galaxy more than any other being in millenia. Grogu has that same potential even though he may not do it as a Jedi but as a Mandalorian or both. The long lifespan combined with a seemingly strong connection to the force makes their species very interesting.

Bo Katan has experience using the darksaber, which is why she isn't as clunky with it as Din is. I agree with the others that keep saying that the animated shows Clone Wars and Rebels are going to give you the answers you seek regarding Mandalorian culture. Next to Sabine, Bo Katan has always been my favorite Mandalorian, more so than Din who really has never been anything other than a bounty hunter.

@@stigkenobi7525 No she isn't. There's no birthdate given on Wookiepedia, and she's the younger sister. Even Obi-Wan isn't that old when the Clone Wars start. This series starts 28 years after Attack of the Clones, and the Clone Wars was only three years long. Bo-Katan was presented as maybe early 20s when we first meet her, probably only a few years older than Ahsoka herself. Bo-Katan is probably around 50 at this point.

A super awesome but sad part about Bo coming back to Mandalore was remembering her sister Satine from the Clone Wars show! She was a beautiful Dutchess who was in love with Obi-Wan, who was murdered horribly. Bo Katan lost more than her home. She lost her family and loved ones too. And the acting is great ve and you can FEEL that loss in her voice 💔

There were many different factions of beliefs and traditions in old Mandalore during its long history. The ancient tradition was that of war and conquest which forged the warrior clans. After many centuries some Mandalorians grew weary of this, and formed the Mandalorian pacifists. The pacifists then clashed with those who wanted to return to the old ways of warfare. Bo-Katan's group evolved from this "secularized" group of warrior clans who did not 100% adhere to the old ways (like keeping the helmets on) but followed some of the other old ways like ruling Mandalore with possession of the Darksaber. Din Djarin's clan was an offshoot of the warrior clans who wanted to go back to a more pure and fanatical following of the ancient traditions , because they felt when their people strayed from "The Way", it brought about the destruction of their homeworld.

OK so the story of Bo-Katan Kryze and Planet Mandalore is kinda complicated and you might be better off just watching a few select episodes of The Clone Wars and Rebels in order to get the full scoop. The general gist of it is that Bo-Katan is kinda jaded and dismissive of Din's "cult" because when she was younger, she herself was a kind of extremist who disagreed with her sister Satine. Satine led a social revolution on Mandalore, founding the "New Mandalorians" who rejected the Mandalorian warrior culture and insisted on pacifism. Satine's way was so popular that she became ruler of Mandalore. Everyone who disagreed and wanted to keep the warrior culture went to live on Concordia and that included Bo-Katan.
The story has a lot of twists and turns but in the end Bo-Katan grew to bitterly regret ever opposing her sister and dividing the Mandalorian people instead of uniting them. Nowadays her dream is to reunite the Mandalorian people and to rebuild Mandalore. She came close one time; during the time of the Empire, a friend claimed the long-lost darksaber and gave it to her, and she used it to unite the people of Mandalore behind her rule. We don't know exactly what happened after that but the lowlights are that Moff Gideon somehow got the darksaber for himself, and ordered an armada of ships to bombard Mandalore until its surface was glass. Apparently the Mandalorian people abandoned Bo-Katan after that, and she's never managed to convince them to come back to her.

I'm gonna sound like a broken record, but to fully enjoy all the subtle details and get the full backstory of Mandalore, Bo-Katan, Death Watch and their interactions with Jedi, you should first watch The Clone Wars animated series and then Star Wars Rebels. Trust me, you will love Bo-Katan and Ahsoka even much more than you probably already do after seeing those shows. Without giving anything away, Grogu saw the outlines of something when they were flying through hyperspace that Star Wars Rebels will show you what it was. Also, once the Ahsoka show starts and more is talked about regarding Thrawn, Sabine and Ezra, you will get lost without their backstories. Well, I do not think you'll get fully lost, per se, because the shows will probably be done in such a way that people who never saw those animated shows can still enjoy the new shows, just like The Mandalorian. But, to fully enjoy the subtle details and get the big picture and interconnected threads, you should watch the other animated show. Do not be fooled into thinking animated shows are just for kids. Some of these animated shows can be just as dark, if not even darker, than some PG-13 or rated-R movies. Before The Clone Wars season 7 came out recently, Disney+ compiled the essential episodes to watch before season 7. So, if you are pressed for time and do not want to watch every single episode, you can see those essential episodes categorized on Disney+. Then, you can see all of season 7 of The Clone Wars and that will help lead you into The Bad Batch animated series, which is really fun too, and has their own ties to The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian.

Bo-Katan belonged to Death Watch, which is connected to the Children of The Watch (the cult). Bo-Katan participated in a civil war against her sister (the queen) and it weakened Mandalore so much that they weren't able to keep outsiders from taking over and that lead to the Empire destroying the surface because the Mandalorians were fragmented and weakened. So Bo-Katan is really triggered by fundamental ideologies since it tore her people apart, yet ironically she holds on to the belief about the Dark Saber... so she's sort of projecting and being passive aggressive about Din's religion.

    • @CCFONESOL
      @CCFONESOL ปีที่แล้ว +1

Technically only Bo Katan, has called them children of the watch. Din had never heard that name. The Armorer had never used it. And nothing in any Mandalorian show has confirmed a connection to Deathwatch, or Maul. People just assume one. Easter egg hints, but no stated confirmation.
N2m, Deathwatch and "the children" act completely different.

You are right that her rejection and cynicism towards Mando's dogmatic group comes from her own experience thinking that the traditional Mandalorian way was "The way" to fix things and having gotten hit in the face with the realization that it did more harm than good and that her sister's way, the pacifist way, represented one of the most prosperous times in Mandalorian history... She saw only the flaws and not how good they got it until it was taken away
But she doesn't really "hold on to the belief about the Dark Saber", not in the sense that she actually believes that the Dark Saber would give you magic powers to rule or that his mere possession would mean that the person is "destined to rule Mandalore" or even fit to do so; none of the mysticism about the Saber... She just knows that OTHER Mandalorians do believe it holds some religious or at the very least symbolic importance; so she wants it just because she can use it to better prop up her standing as ruler and leader, not because she actually thinks the Saber itself would "give" her a throne... It's just symbolism for their people
She is completely right about her rejection of some of the more "strict" beliefs they hold... They quite simply don't work when implemented on a large scale; It works semi-well for a group of renegade Mandalorians who function as a glorified bounty hunters gild, but the reality is that some of their ideals are either quite dangerous as something to be believed by a very large group of people and as a "cultural rule" and there are some other beliefs, like the helmet thing, that in the surface seem to be harmless but are 100% impractical and problematic to even consider to be applied to an entire resurging civilization

Excellent reaction you’re so good about this. If you watch clone wars, it would explain stuff, but in the meanwhile on Mandalorian, there were two factions of Mandalorian, the Royal Mandalorian, or the classic Mandalorian Catan, who rule the planet, and then deathwatch the Mandalorian, who believe never take your helmet off they wanna be warriors always warriors you know fight fight fight conquer other planets , Bocana family just wanted to Randal and be peaceful with other planets of by coincidence, the guy who adopted Django Fett, Boba father he was Mandalorian the great he ruled by the old old always, and they had a Civil War. He tried to book family one and ruled Mandylor. Django left Mandylor the great leader of Mandalorian that is the grandfather of that because his father was saved by Mandalorian. He became Mandalorian the great the Mandalorian Civil War and he ruled Mandan for a while when he died, took over, the planet and deathwatch believe in ways of the Mandalorian. They wanna go back to the always fighting the time before the Civil War. Those are the side that fought with against the Jedi . Thanks for the fun until next time.

I think of the Armorer as a religious fundamentalist, focused less on the planet and more on the beliefs of their ancient way of life; Bo Katan is (was?) a nationalist, focused on the restoration of the planet and its people to galactic prominence. She’s also long disillusioned by by her time in Death Watch, the terrorist organization the pre-dated The Watch) and various conflicts that saw Mandalore decimated.
Bo Katan’s history is told in Clone Wars and Rebels, which I cannot recommend more strongly. A long, beautiful journey that will make you love Star Wars more.

Popcorn in the bed from Star Wars might respond to the Tales of The Jedi series, which only has 6 short episodes (max. 15-20 minutes) where there are more Jedi stories than Anakin and his ("y. sis. ") , Count Dooku and Qui-gon Jinn's relationship. And much more that you can see in the series clone wars, Bad Batch and Rebels.

The cyborg insect...thing wasn't pumping anything into Din. He was sucking his blood out. Attempted murder by exsanguination.
If you want the full details on Bo-Katan, you might want to watch Mandalorian-based episodes of Clone Wars and Rebels. I'm sure there's a list out there somewhere if you only want to see those episodes (both shows are great as full products, but I imagine you may be a little busy regarding your channel content for that)
And I disagree. I think their real names are far better than their nicknames, especially in our eponymous lead's case. I feel like there's more of a split with Grogu, but Din Djarin is a legitimately awesome name whereas I feel 'Mando' is goofy (I didn't even like it leading up to his real name being said at the end of Season 1). To each their own.

She’s a female Yoda species on Jedi council so he should be like yogurt or something something with a Y. Thanks for the fun season four should be up soon. It would’ve been out already except for the Raiders and after strike, we don’t know who the Mandalorian gonna be because Pedro Pascal wants more money so I don’t know how long for season four comes out. Let’s see we might have more Boba fat before we have more Mandalorian. Thanks for the fun. So her name was Yadle

Bo's attitude about her own culture:
Think of Mando as being Orthodox and Bo being someone who ticks the box on the census form but never goes to Temple. They're both from the same culture, it's just that Mando was raised to take it seriously.

One of my many favorite moments with Grogu so far has to be where he goes “adom”.
Also, I like the dynamic between Din and Bo-Katan. Though I wonder about the dark saber. Bo didn’t have a problem wielding it whatsoever compared to Din, but it also belonged to Paz Vizsla’s family eons ago.

You need to watch clone wars to understand the sects. Bo’s family wanted to be a more open society and the the death watch (when she calls him a “child of the watch”) we more hardcore old school MANDALORIAN. There was an entire civil war on Mandalore during the clone wars. Darth Mal ended up leading the death watch
