She is a Britisher in the film. It is a period film - when the Britishers ruled India. She plays the role of a British officer' s sister. She falls in love with a local Indian man.
Madrasapattinam was the Tamil word for Madras ( the English christened name for what was Pattinam - meaning City - in Tamil. The film portrays a English woman who was in INDIA during the Raj days in Madras and who fell in love with a Dhoby ( a Hindi word for Launderer). They get close but later she returns to UK and many years later ( close to her feeling her death is near) she returns to Madras ( Today's Chennai) to see what happened with her crush - Arya . So that's the film. Its worth watching to see pre-Independence Madras ( today's Chennai) and the impact of Colonial rule on ordinary life. The singers are Roop Kumar Rathod ( a popular Ghazal maestro from Mumbai and Bollywood) with Harini a Tamil playback singer who is quite an artist with her reportoire. Suggest you guys go bit deeper to researching the video first before you see it - that way you can comment on the rendition rather than ask questions about the video's details which you can find readily!

Of course this is Amy's first movie. She was like the soul of the entire film and was well received by the audience. This movie is a period drama(when India was under British rule) where she plays the daughter of an English governor who falls in love with a local guy, gets separated forcefully because of India's freedom attainment. After many years her grand daughter brings her back to India to fulfill her dying wish which is to check on him and return something he gave her. How they find him and what Amy comes to know about him later forms the rest of the story.
This film is all time favourite film of Malaysianindians. This film's final part so heart touching should be watch with families also.💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
