  • Big Sky reverb walkthrough and review of Strymon's first plugin. This could be a game changer for the company in probably a good way? But maybe not? Regardless, this will for sure find it's way onto every MainStage preset in every church over the next few months haha! It's so easy to dial in those lush ambient textures and shimmering waves of pads. The Big Sky is also a great workhorse for plates and springs and other misc verbs. Guess it's time to sell all of our Big Sky pedals?

Lets see I own Pro R2, Eventides Immersive, Valhalla Supermassive, Valhalla Room, and more... dont need to spend $200 on another one

On the fence. I've owned a few Big Sky's in my various rigs. I KNOW they sound brilliant. Honestly, I question whether I'd use the plugin enough in my recordings to justify the pricetag.
If it was $99, I'd already own it. Great demo.

as a reverb it has the same reputation as Lexicon. It is a great reverb and recognisable. I love both however Lexicon is so eighties , my youth :)

I don't normally post to vids but 💯 agree with your musings on the future of the big Sky. I'm torn, had the pedal for years on guitar, Moog & outboard. Now what do I do!!? Good vid, u understand the unit well 👌👌

I have it and believe me it’s so good, and yes there are many reverb plug ins cheaper , now your ears gone to tell the real difference.

Nice review, thanks! Do you hear any difference between the plugin and the pedal? Since as you mentioned in the beginning, the analog hardware affects the overall sound. Almost always native versions sounds weaker because of this...

Thank you! Since the pedal is not analog, it’s 100% digital, the plug-in is identical. I notice literally 0 difference in sound. The workflow is different but the sound is the same. 👍🏻

Does the plug in also have a speaker simulate function (as the pedal does)?

    • @SoloRay

Weirdly, no. I’m curious as to why it wasn’t included but with so many great cab sims and IR’s available with other plugins I haven’t missed it at all.

Would you swap the box for the plugin? I head to sell mine for the convenience of the plugin.

I think there is still a use case for the pedal for guitar players. Doesn’t always make sense to run a computer as part of your rig, but for keyboard players or producers? Yeah sell that thing.
