I’d recommend copper tape for the snails and slugs. Simple and effective! They don’t scoot over it. Wrapping around the pot with the thin copper tape doesn’t give them access to soil or tree. Works great in gardens to- a copper tape strip around raised garden beds. God bless you mate🙏🏿
I first thought it was mycelium, but when you did the close-up it looked like a white bug moving. Think you have some kind of petty bug in there. Beautiful trees as always. Was thinking about you last week and wondering how you were doing and if you were ever coming back. Brought a big smile to my face and a happy heart to see you posted a video today. By far my favorite bonsai channel. We've missed you hear and we've prayed for you and your family. Welcome back! Cheers!
I have loved watching the plum develop over the leaves, I hope it picks up. As someone else has suggested, wood ash can help with the slug - Peter Cundall from Gardening Australia swore by it! (the slug is the caterpillar of a sawfly, and the eggs pupate in the soil, so bare rooting the tree should help with control, I would assume.) Dunno about the maple, but it sure has promise; a couple of years of ramification and it will start to fit the pot!
I think the trees look great in their new pots. That plumb tree is really dark and scary, I can picture it deep in a forest, leaning over a tumbled down old cottage..The tree creaks and groans in the wind, the rain pelts down and you need shelter. But is the cottage really abandoned? or is there someone peeking out through the tattered curtain......
G'day Sam.. couple of beautiful trees... I've been using Zeolite now for the past 5 yrs trees love it root growth is fantastic.. it's the best and cheapest alternative to Akadama..and you can keep recycling it as it doesn't break down..i could be wrong but I think the maple could have mealy bug in the roots..
What a treat, Sam, two handsome trees and almost my favourites of yours! I agree with everything you said n couldn’t argue with any of your conclusions.Lovely to see Stumpy! Thanks for the update n God bless you 🙏✝️. ✌️🇷🇺☮️🇺🇦✌️. 🙋♀️🤍🇮🇱✌️
Hopefully you can pull this plum through in the transfer to the training training pot. Letting it grow to get some vigor is a great idea. Nice homemade potting mix.
Very timeley, I was looking into pesticides as I have the same pests - root aphids, mealy bugs etc. You helped me find out what are those slugs are on my garden cherry tree. I found that there are confidor alternatives that are easier to get and use the same active ingredient, one is called Surefire Spectrum. I havent tried it out yet tho.
Yeah I have to agree , many colonies got wiped out and destroyed in zones that had verroa sadly , movement of hives is only going to spread the mites now especially when they travel using there hives for pollination in other states as well. I have bees and very concerned .
@@fishmutSO sorry to hear that, Fishmut, bees and beekeepers have a special place in my heart; my father was a beekeeper and I love bees but can’t keep them as I’m mega allergic 😢 God bless you and all your bees 🙏✝️
G,day Aussie bonsai bloke , I just noticed a few things you said while talking got me thinking and that is a couple of things for thought , 1 / …in the trunk you been trying to rot out would have an impact on that tree , trees do get water in crevices etc but they also dry out 2 /… I. Other videos I have seen about the moss is that you can have it in pots but not smothering the trunk , moss has caused me problems in the past as well , 3/ … you mentioned the tree was fairly wet , I’m starting to think to much moisture , the roots are not being able to breath being wet all the time and the trunk soaking in water to rot for your creation , just my 2cents worth . This is only my thinking from watching this video , possibly to much moisture ,anyway keep us posted I’m curious what might be the cause and if your lovely bonsai survives. Cheers.👍
Hard to believe but things are starting to move. Even though it's probably got colder tge days are getting longer so go for it. Repotting deciduous is a go
Sam have you heard of Diatomaceous Earth? Its the bomb for pests animals and humans. I take it for parasites also my cat and never had fleas. Farmers use it on the cattle. Love your work Sam
Hey Sambo, me old china, I'm a Bricky, so I lay bricks, right.... me mate Bilbo is a Paver, so he lays pavers, right...... ......and carpet layers lay carpet, right......now, how come Plumbers don't lay plums ? ? ? ? ? yeah, .....nah..
I hope your plum does well this year. The new front certainly gives it some more interest.
Another good video . Love both these trees . The plum is spooky hope it survives. Nice one Sam.
And your analysis of the maple, and choice of pot, are spot-on. Nice one mate!
Love watching your videos keep it up
Thanks for the sharing Sam. Keeping you and all in prayer.

Nice iconic looking maple mate!
Looks like root aphid for sure. Do the oil as soon as you can. Both trucks look awesome. Good catch before what could be trouble.

Maybe drill just a small hole so the truck drains out? Heck I could just be a crazy American 😂 Cheers brother. You got this.

Ok cool. Thanks for the info
I would pay the “shingle back” an allowance to protect the tree, they love slugs and snails 🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌
Feel like that pots the perfect size for the maple mate. When the canopy is larger it will look great 👍
Well... That's a new pest I didn't know existed.... In the roots even jeez...
...."plenty of honey bees around in Australia" - not since verroa mite mate!

Both trees have some really cool trunks on them.
Thanks Tom
hey sam mate, when is your next property tour due? as a fan of native bush regeneration i love seeing the progress over the years.
Not long mate 👍 👌

i don't think the blue pot is too big :D looks great. for a smaller pot you'd have to be a lil less lazy on the roots haha
If you ever come through Nuriootpa I’ve got some bonsai pots free.Cheers
Very generous 😇
Your just over my back fence. I'm rockliegh area 😉

Another great video- I’ve had good results treating pear and cherry slug using Yates Success which Bunnings sell
Ok cool thanks
Just stepped on a bee today, and gosh it hurts.
Aussie Dave here Sam, nice work 😂. But is it wise to repot in the middle of winter 🤔
No because the tree is dormant not using any energy , it’s sleeping you might say , come spring it will spring back to growing .👍
Hard to believe but things are starting to move. Even though it's probably got colder tge days are getting longer so go for it. Repotting deciduous is a go
Good day mate how’s tricks 🤙
Looks like mycelium, but I couldn't really direct. Only u. Some trees get it along with conifers.
But the white started walking around ! 😳

I'll look into it
You get a lot of birds picking through he moss mate or do the dogs keep them away?
Don't have black birds here touch wood, so very lucky. When I was in town it sure was a pain.
I have a crabapple with the same problems.
👍👌🙂
Wood ash or lime applied dry to leaves for cherry slug. Do a small test section first
looks like a mealy bugs infestation

Dunno what them bugs were but I bet they did like the water jet.🪳
