Azymuth's career-defining LP Light As A Feather returns. Home to their worldwide disco/fusion hit single ‘Jazz Carnival’, the samba-doido staple 'Partido Alto', and the proto-deep house masterpiece ‘Avenida Das Mangueiras’, this album typifies the trio’s tireless innovation in the fields of jazz, funk, samba and cosmic music perhaps more so than any of their other ground-breaking records from its era.
Their first release on Milestone Records in 1979, it quickly became one of the best-selling LPs of the year, staying in the UK Top 20 for eight straight weeks with more than half a million copies sold. An incredibly well thought out album both in pace, song selection and musicality, ‘Light As A Feather’ marked a maturing of the band as they began to rightfully utilise the studio as an instrument itself, embracing numerous mixing and recording techniques not yet common for the time as well as pioneering the use of the Big Muff and Dolby System to great effect. The result is an album that endures to this day as a samba/jazz-funk masterpiece.
First reissued in 2012, the Far Out edition of this seminal recording was remixed and re-mastered from the original 16-track tapes, which were given to Joe Davis by Azymuth. This latest version is the first ever issue to be complete with a download card that that gives access to previously unreleased tracks, including the incredible full length version of 'Jazz Carnival', as well as remixes from house stalwarts Theo Parrish, Ashley Beedle, and Mark E.

One of the most underrated bands in history, their music simply is... MAGIC.
The song "Jazz Carnival" has been the opening theme of a very famous tv show ("Mixer") for a very long time here in Italy. Fortunately we came across the music of the band for that reason.

Came upon this by accident and the thought struck me that Jazz Carnival is almost 40 yes, 40 years old ! and it rocks every note today like it did back in '79 !!!
I also grew up with the music 🎵 of Azymuth on the original track of Jazz Carnival in 1979 as a young 15-year old.
I discovered AZYMUTH back in 1984 by their first track Partido Alto. I later purchased five of their albums. Amazing trio. R.I.P. Bertrami.

I love Partido Alto so much... I also have a vivid memory of in 2012 when I was of LSD on Santa Monica beach, dancing to “Jazz Carnival” whilst the sun was setting. It was one of those moments of “wow… I could die at this moment from utmost joy & contentment.” I am forever grateful for your music and rest in peace Ivan “Mamao” Conti.

My husband go crazy for Azimuth since long time, and i too. He's got many original LP of that unique band. We want to transmit the culture of the good music to our sons, instead of the poor and vulgar music of the last decades. They like Azimuth too!
The recording and the mixing of this recording it’s so great. I love the how well the heavy reverb on some of the percussion blends with the dryness of the Rhodes, synth, and bass on some of the tracks
Love this stuff. Some of these tracks are like something out of one of those strange dreams that you cant quite remember, but when you find that right "thread" in your memory it pulls you along for the ride. I remember finding this album in a basement record shop several years back and somehow managed to score it for like 2 bucks. Hope whoever swiped it from me enjoys it as much as I do.

A great discovery just a week ago when a fellow was on a Swing Out Sister blog and mentioned Azymuth and I though I'll look into them. So glad I did. So refreshing to be reminded of the late 60s early 70s jazz revival via Brazil and Tom Jobim

São muito melhores que os músicos atuais. Adoro. Este disco é de 1967.
Desculpe a correção amigo, mas o disco de é 1979 (tá na info). E o que você escuta em teclas é muito Piano elétrico Rhodes, sintetizador ARP2600 entre outros e algum órgão Hammond, mas sem efeito adicional algum só o vibratochorus que é de fábrica e a Caixa Leslie que é de praxe.
