    We appreciate the shout out :) Quick note - That white fuzz actually isn't mold, its called "flowers of kefir" You can google that if you want to learn about it more. Generally harmless but it doesn't taste the best. Your kefir looks amazing by the way. Keep up the good work!

    Hellooooo Heather, Levi & Kid’s 🥰 it’s been awhile I haven’t been on TH-cam I’ve been busy😀 But I have to say my Brother in Law makes this all the time & drinks it everyday. I tried it but It didn’t agree with me. 😳 Today He actually asked me to add milk to it everyday while he’s in Florida for the week 😁

    I just ordered kefir grains from the company you ordered yours from. Super excited to make my own milk kefir. My daughter and I have been purchasing it and I think it’s time we start making our own. Plus we buy raw milk so even better. If I may ask, what did you flavor yours with in the video? It looked like strawberry. Thank you for sharing. I started watching your videos since Fall Into Sourdough and love your content.

  • @jamiedeer2674
    @jamiedeer2674 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hi. I’m re-watching this because I bought dehydrated kefir starter. 2 days ago I tried making it for the first time. I added the 4 cups of milk (2%) right away (I didn’t know I’m supposed to do one cup at a time/a day) and this morning I didn’t see bubbles but it was thick and smelt like yogurt. I was going to try it, I tried straining it, and I didn’t see any kefir grains. It looked like sour milk.
    I ended up dumping it in my sink, I’m not sure I made it right.
    My question is are kefir grains and kefir starter the same?
    An idea for a video:)
    Thanks

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      No they are different. The starter powder has about 12 strains of bacteria and the grains have over 60. The grains take time to get going but once they do you don't have to buy them again!

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      And you can't get grains from the powder. You can get grains from fusion Teas online!

    I have always wanted to make kefir, but was intimidated. Thank you for sharing this…it doesn’t look so complicated after all. Do you have to use Raw milk? I understand it might be better for you ( gut wise) but since I am new to this I am curious. Also I haven’t gone the raw milk stage just yet…baby steps….so much to learn…..Oh, I just had a thought…Can you make Flavored Kefir Popsicles? Would freezing kill the bacteria in the Kefir …you said something about freezing some grains as a safety measure. I was just wondering, cuz I might be able to make healthy popsicle this summer. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can absolutely use store bought cows milk if that's what you have easy access to!! I've never frozen the kefir into popsicles but I think I will this year because that sounds like a fantastic idea and should absolutely preserve the probiotics! Thanks for the idea!

    I feel much better about making kefir now. I have a book but I like to see what people are talking about so I know what it is supposed to look like. I was scared to leave milk out 😆. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and have a blessed day

    The product kefir is pronounced "ka-feer" in English, including America, NOT "kee-fa".

      That's the fun thing about language, it can adapt and change depending on usage. I've heard it many different ways but mostly the way I pronounce it, at least in my area. 😊

    Thank you so much for this video 😊
    How do I make my kefir thicker also my grains haven't grown that much
    Also how do I add fruit flavors

      We add jam or smoothie mix to the kefir after straining, and for us the thickening is achieved after a longer fermenting time. We do.24 to 36 hours.

    We love homemade kefir. I lost my kefir "start" during some life chaos, and am just getting ready to start again. I didn't know about saving some in the freezer, well I get going again I'll be sure to try the freezing method. Thank you for the tips and a great demo.

    I've made raw milk kefir for the past decade. Usually we use it in our smoothies, but I make cheese with some and soak my homemade granolanin it before dehydrating it.

      Cheese!! Do you just strain the thick kefir through a yogurt strainer or kitchen cloth?

    • @willsmama1907
      @willsmama1907 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SageandStoneHomestead yes, it's actually a yogurt strainer. I also ferment the kefir until it's pretty thick.

    I love my kefir grains. I bought mine from cultured foods that were shipped in milk. So they weren’t dormant when I received them. ❤
