Barry Briggs MBE is world famous, not only for his four World Speedway Championships, but also as the most prominent speedway personality in the history of the sport.
In this definitive and exclusive video biography, which is available on DVD for the first time, 'Briggo' tells his own story to Mark Cross.
It is illustrated using Barry's personal archive, as well as rare TV and film archive material. Nothing is left out, from the early days when the racer was known as the 'impetuous Kiwi who crashed a lot', through to his four World titles and six British titles, the big Wembley crash of 1972 right up to recent Golden Greats rides.
We also get a great insight into Briggo's character and interests, which range from car racing and football to gold mining! Also features contributions from Ivan Mauger and Ove Fundin.
Special DVD extra: In a new interview with Bruce Cox, Barry reminisces about speedway in Europe, the USA and Japan, as well as talking about his equally-colourful life after retirement from racing. We're on INSTAGRAM: bit.ly/2evtvsg

I was there in 1961 to 1963 at the Bannister speedway track in Southampton as a 12 year old with my cousin Rick, watching Briggo, Björn Knutsson, Alby Golden, Peter Vandenberg and the other Saints riders.

I first watched Briggo when he was with Ronnie Moore at Wimbledon in the late fifties, six league titles in seven years. Both Barry and Ivan always said that "Ronnie Moore was the best Kiwi rider ever." If you took Barry, Ivan, Ronnie & Geoff Mardon (He was married to Ronnie's sister) and you would have had the greatest team in World Cup speedway ever. Thirteen* world Individual championship wins with many many rostrum places to add. Geoff is the first rider that comes to my mind when you talk about riders who should have been world champion in 1953 (Nobody I know who was there has ever disputed that. I did not see it as my first meeting was the 1955 world final). and he was the first Kiwi to stand on the winners rostrum at Wembley. Of course all four riders rode for Wimbledon during their career. Of course when I started going to Wimbledon the pits was on the third bend, until they switched the start to the other side of the track. Wimbledon was unlike any other Stadium because it was enclosed all round and once the lights went off, leaving just the lights above the track on it was magical, not forgetting then it was a much bigger track. Almost all of the riders had black leathers in the fifties and it was like four gladiators and it did not matter who was riding as long as the red & blue got a heat advantage. To me as a youngster Ronnie Greene was a God and he run the meetings as if he was.
Somebody said they were the good old days and I said yes and today will be the good old days for another generation.
*Sixteen if you include Ivan's long track wins.

Barry Brigss was not just a fast rider. He came up with the idea of the horizontal engine, did the development work, and made it a success.
