I really enjoy your videos. In this video I love that even though you're talking about gear, the images come first and you approach the gear as a tool to help you get the images you want. I like that you can talk about compromises (like the crap focus on the X100) in a rational way -- not "oh this is the worst don't buy this camera" but, "hey, the focus sucks, but guess what, you're using a tiny little camera that lets you take pictures you couldn't even *take* with a DSLR". Thanks so much for your videos; they inspire me to go shoot, which is the most important thing.

X100 is definitely NOT a tiny little camera. Fuji designers are probably the worst in the photographic industry.

Its an aps-c. It must be something with Fuji's commercial/marketing decision. They make always huge bodies and because they are basically a plain box, they seem also terribly empty. If they chose this way they still can make pretty interesting designs, like the olympus pen F. I guess is the Japanese "Zen" stile of emptiness they prefer.

I just bought a 13 year old Canon 5D. I'm thinking of buying an X100 for similar reasons. 2 great cameras that didn't suddenly stop being great because new models were released.
There are benefits to a lower megapixel count on a sensor. 12Mp is perfectly fine for travel/Street photography. To me the older cameras are a perfect fit between film and Digital. You get the benefits of unlimited "film" and instant review of Digital but with the simplicity of a less feature-packed camera of film. It forces you to focus on the image rather than the menu-system.

Hi I have had the original x100 now for a year and love the camera, however i was a bit concerned about the image quality compared to my DSLR, until I realised that mega pixels and ultra sharp images are not everything. Get back to ansel adams style, your feet are your zoom, and just walk around and take images, your sense of appreciation of the x100 is a breath of fresh air. Love the videos keep them going, nice to see non main stream must hav's

You share some great tips here Sean. I love the fact that you move across different genres of photography. It’s something I’ve decided to do more of this year. While I primarily take landscape images, I started going out and trying my hand at street photography. I believe the experience in another style of photography will benefit each other. As you said, it helps keep your eye in, and can also extend/expand aspects of your photography like finding new compositions and using light in different ways. I’m now working on how I can transition my vlogs to capture this experience. Thanks for sharing mate!

I have just been given a Fuji X100. It was purchased in 2012, taken on holiday just once, and then put in a cupboard. It was about to be stored in a garage. I'm looking forward to getting out this weekend with it. I find I keep looking at the dials on top and the aperture ring, a bit of a novelty for me right now.

What I walk around with if I'm just shooting for the fun of it, or just walking around as a tourist in a new city, is a tough tg-5. It'll just hang on my hip, ready to be pulled up in an instant when I find something which catches my eye. It's not the best image quality, but it's watertight, it's tiny, it's friendly and most importantly, it's something I can walk around with all day and never even think about it.
And it also does a much better job than my smartphone, by far, which is the only other camera I normally bring along with me.

I don't even want to carry the weight of my iPad, but I do if I want to go work in a coffee shop/library on other things than my photos. However, I don't carry a sidebag anymore, because I feel unbalanced. I also want to bring a water bottle and some snacks... maybe a sweater or a rainjacket. So a small backpack is better for me. I almost do the same, except I use a Toshiba SD card, that has built-in WiFi and works very well with my X100 (first gen too). Easier to choose the pics I want to put on my iPhone / iPad. As a bonus I can shoot tethered with my laptop & Lightroom, great when playing with a model or strobes.
I still love my x100 (autofocus is not thaaat bad, come on...) and I'm not in a hurry to try the x100f.

Street photography is harder than I first thought. I'm currently visiting Prague, and tend to end up at tourist spots. Not using my eyes as I should, and missing moments I should be paying attention to. I guess I'm way to focused on doing what everyone elso has done before me sometimes, that I miss those good shots in between

In my city, Perth (Australia), people only take you seriously if you have a DSLR. If you carry around a DSLR people will ask you to take photos for them with their phone/camera and there’s a higher chance of them asking you what you’re shooting or what your camera is, you also get other photographers approaching you. But most people have a good mood towards photographers, some people will pose if they’re in the area where you’re pointing your camera, almost everyone seems to move away if they think they’re between you and what you’re shooting.

Wow - what a lovely balanced video. There is so much ranting and raving on here lately by people with their various agendas - lovely to see a sober, calm normal person for once who really has something to say. Just as an aside Sean - are you running the latest firmware in the X100. You will be pleased to know (though I sold mine), but my X100 with the latest firmware was actually nearly as fast in the focus as my current X100s. I only got the S because my eyes aren't what they used to be and I needed something better than the abysmal EVF on the original camera. In some ways though the images were more lovely - I think Fuji spilled some magic sauce and left it behind when they introduced the X sensor.

Dear mr Tucker, I love your approach of photography and I appreciate your philisophy of walking around and really seeing instead of mere looking at the world around you. The pictures you show on Instagram are prove of your capability as a profound ‘observer’. You are probably familiar with Walter Benjamin’s works, especially those on the ‘Flaneur’ and the Paris Galleries. Back in the thirties Benjamin was a real revolutionary in aimlessly roaming the streets of a city, go wherever you feet take you. Be curious, talk to strangers, get yourself in places that are completely unfamliar to you and see the world around you. In your clip you asked for experiences from your audience. I have been taking photographs all my life - even a short time as a professional back in the sixties - and always, I have been worrying what gear to take with me (on almost all occasions..). In a couple of months I’m going on a two weeks trip to San Francisco, Seattle and Vancouver (sounds American, but I am Duch as a matter of fact..) and you convinced me that the only camera I should bring is a small Fujifilm X70 or X100! Thanks for that!

Sean. I love your videos and learn quite a lot. Thank you. What messenger bag are you using with your x100 if you don’t mind my asking?

Great video! Which strap are you using with the X100 Sean?

+Jurgen Onland just a cheap wrist strap off Amazon. Nothing special.

Thank for the video, Sean. I've started to use Snapseed after the video where you explain how you are editing the photos! And this one is something to learn too!
I've also wanted to ask, have you considered to migrate from DSLR to Fuji system? If not, why?
I understand that Fuji 100x is pretty still pretty good camera, but have you considered to upgrade it or use something smaller (like Sony RX100).
I understand the gear won't make you a better photographer, but I'm just curious about your opinion on this topic :)
Looking forward to the next videos!

+Alexey Shikov thanks mate. I hanging on to my DSLRs for pro work because I really enjoy the extra depth of a full frame, and unfortunately Fuji sensors are all cropped. So for now I'm still a Canon guy:)

Great photos and yet again a great video. I have experienced the unfriendliness and suspicion that a DSLR brings in this context when I was working on weekly challenge last year. Really appreciate the tip.

Nice Vid. QUESTION: when you editing your images set you the brightness of the display to 100%?

    • @seantuck
      @seantuck  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

+Oliver no I usually trust the auto brightness. I figure seeing as most people will view on auto brightness that this gives me a benchmark.

Strange. I got in trouble several times shooting with film cameras (pentax spotmatic and a cheap rangefinder). Its only worse when I have to explain to them how i cannot delete the photos.

Hello, I love your photos and will definitely be following you to see some more of your work. I do have a question regarding your instagram page on your website though. Do you go into that page and add the photos or do you use an app that updates that page everytime you add a photo to your instagram?
