    GET READY FOR SUMMER with these custom DIY chairs. They pack flat! They work on the beach, or at the park, at the festival, on the campground. Just say no to cheap/"disposable" flimsy lawn chairs.
    This is a detailed build video in which I show how these chairs work, talk about how I designed them, and I go through all the steps in building one of these chairs.
    You might be able to build these just from following along in the video, but I do have detailed plans available at a modest cost. Your purchase will help me out; thanks! www.wordsnwood.com/plans/beachchairs/

    Nice beach chairs, Art! I built four similar chairs 5 years ago from white oak for deck chairs. I finished them with a 70% teak oil & 30% spar urethane blend. They held up well until a storm with 2 inch hail damaged them.

      white oak is practically waterproof... amazing dense wood!

    We used to make similar chairs in the boy scouts many years ago. One advice: don't use glue for the top cross piece of the seat back. Then you can remove it any time by just unscrewing it and slide off the fabric in case you want to wash it or replace it. It also makes re-finishing the wood and sewing the fabric easier. You just fold over the long edges of the fabric wide enough to create a tunnel for the sides and run it through a sewing machine in a straight line and you are done.

    I've seen lots of this style of chairs made out of hockey sticks.

      definitely strong enough, but I would not care for that look. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      @@Wordsnwood Admittedly I did first see those party rock music festivals, so aesthetics probably weren't a high priority.

    Great project and fun video. How well do the chairs work with bigger people? My seat is wider than the chair's seat. And I weigh a bit more than you do.

    • @Wordsnwood
      @Wordsnwood  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't think I've had anyone over about 225 sit on one, but they were fine. As you would be building it yourself, you can always scale up some of the parts. It's easy enough to make it a bit wider.

      When I was young (20years ago) I used to sit in one of those chairs. And in that time the chair was 20-30yo... So nope, they don't brakea so easy.

    Thanks for the video! I have an old Byer of Maine Lounger that broke after 25 years of use! Can’t buy them anymore so I want to make these. I did notice that the Maine Lounger has the fabric attached difrent from yours. It is stapled and then the slats rolled a couple of times inward to completely hide the staples. I assume this would require taking the completed chair back apart to attach the fabric.

    Hi I like them very much but can these be used for dining purposes? With a small dining table?

    • @Wordsnwood
      @Wordsnwood  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've certainly eaten food while sitting in these chairs. But I don't think they'd work at a table, as you lean back when sitting in them.

    Hi! I bought your plan last week, would you be able to list the screws with sizes etc that is needed for this build? Thank you! @wordsnwood

    • @Wordsnwood
      @Wordsnwood  ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty sure they were all 1" screws but a bit longer would be okay. #6 size. But #8 size would be fine.

      Detailed plans are here: www.wordsnwood.com/plans/beachchairs/
      But the plans are in inches, so you'd need to do your own conversion.

  • @lukeprince7690
    @lukeprince7690 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey but I've got a lot of 2" by 3/4" lumber So how much do I need to change the design to match the lumber I have cause it seems waste to plant it down to inch and a 1/2

    • @Wordsnwood
      @Wordsnwood  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You probably would need to experiment with the crosspiece spacing since that controls the tilt.

  • @gokhanketenci71
