  • These names can definitely be quite daunting and confusing, especially when the conditions are recently getting renamed as researchers find out more about them. To date, Axial Spondyloarthritis (AxSpA) and Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) both fall under a group of conditions known as Spondyloarthritis. Let’s break this down.
The “Axial” and the “Spondylo-” refers to the spine and trunk, “Ankylosing” means stiffening or fusing, and the “-itis” means inflammation of the joints. There are many conditions under Spondyloarthritis, such as Psoriatic Arthritis or Reactive Arthritis, but we’ll focus more on AxSpA and AS in this blog.

It actually affects women and men the same. Women, like myself, are usually misdiagnosed with fibromyalgia.

But at women predominantly is non radiographic forms....with low values în inflamatories test as vsh , crp .. and not present in Rmn ...at young men Ankylosing Spondylitis is much more agressive with spine fusion ! After 60 years I know what I say.. !!

@@danplugaru8187 Not true. Men have more damage but women have more disease burden. If you read any UPDATED studies or medical articles it clearly states it is much closer to equal.
You being 60 means you are living in the past. As I said, woman are often misdiagnosed.
The disease affects the sexes different but that is about it.
You are spreading disinformation that just isn’t true. I am pushing 50 and started symptoms in my teens. Women’s pain is minimized and pushed aside.
I have AS NOT Nr. AS shows damage while Non radiographic does not. But disease burden is still the same.
Time to get with the times. Fusion does not mean more pain. That is another myth!!

@@danplugaru8187 AS affects men and women closer to equally in NUMBERS not how disease progresses. I have high CRP, osteopenia, restrictive lung disease, scoliosis, ddd and others. If you read any UP TO DATE LITERATURE AND MEDICAL DEFINITIONS IT IS MUCH CLOSER TO EQUAL THAN ORIGINALLY THOUGHT. Not even close to the old thinking. 🙄
I already know men have more fusion BUT women have higher disease burden. Fusion does not mean more pain. Non-radiographic people can have just as much disease burden as people with AS. Most people nowadays never progress to fusion. I go to a chiropractor, physical therapy and walk.
I am getting close to 50 and have been misdiagnosed for 20-25 years so I think I know a little bit about the subject.
You need to get with the new research before you come at people because I have AS with damage and I’m a woman! So go do some research if you want to have a conversation!!!!!!

@@danplugaru8187 AS affects men and women pretty close to equal now. That is what UPDATED literature is saying. It may not affect men and women the same symptoms wise but that is not what I’m talking about.
I am 45 and have been misdiagnosed for more than 20 years so I think I know what I am talking about.
Also, fusion does not mean more pain. Men have more fusion but women have more disease burden. Also, with biologics and proper maintenance fusions are not as common.
If you would like to have a conversation then I suggest you do some research.
