Why not just be honest with her friend Dyna and tell her that she wants to meet that guy who might help her get the job she wants ? That's as simple as that . True friends understand career choices, you can't just blow away your entire life just to please your friends. I think Dyna is toxic, i think jennifer is way too stupid and complicated, and i think ALL the relationships between EVERY character in that ENTIRE show are all completely dysfunctional.

Hell nooo, all of them by this point have million dollar portfolios on the side and it wouldn`t matter at all if they get fired or not.
I think she was living too much beyond her means and thought what could go wrong? Then it went wrong lol I have family members that try to keep up with the Jones and are in debt to maintain an image. I think the irony is she was an investment banker but didn't think to make any investments for herself lol

I get your point, but when you get a chance, pick up Tom Wolfe's Bonfire of the Vanities. There is a part early on where he lays out how his bond trader protagonist doesn't have two bits to rub together at the end of the year, despite hauling down 1 mil+ annually.
It's no mystery why it didn't work. It was a mashup of My Name Is Earl and Arrested Development, except getting fired isn't an interesting story and the protagonist is too pathetic. She's the butt of just about every joke, and unlike Mary Richards or Earl Hickey or Michael Bluth, she isn't (basically) honest and she lies constantly. It's hard to like her, even though it's Jaime freakin' Pressly. Plus narration doesn't fit here like it did with Earl, and to do narration plus talking heads was just too much exposition. And along with all that, Jaime cuts off her beautiful long hair, which was part of her hotness superpower. This could have worked with some tweaks.
