There was a british naval ship called the "HMS Porcupine", and I don't remember the full story, but it was damaged and recycled into two smaller boats, and they named one "HMS Pork" and the other "HMS Pine"

2:54 Now you will say:"Why Africa AND Italy ?"
There was a popolazion of the european type in Italy, But It when locally extint during the Ice Age.
    Fast forward to ancient Rome.
They started trading with the rest of the Mediterranean, and if there was something that they reeeally adored it was strange meats.
Once they discovered porcupines in nord Africa, they liked them for they sweet taste.
So the romans started to breed them in Italy, where some escaped and started to fill again the niche that the european version left ages ago !!!

I had a hiking guide who thought that porcupines could throw their quills. We saw one on the trail (in a dozen years of hiking, I've only seen three or four) and I had to disabuse her of that notion before she would walk past it. I still have a picture of the critter buried in my picture folders somewhere. But I never knew that they stab themselves! A creature so dangerous that it has to be afraid of itself. 😳

    The second-cutest ouch-potato 🦔 I'd love to see a video on hedgehogs!
Fun fact: baby hedgehogs (hoglets) loose their baby quills in the same way humans loose their baby teeth. They're born with softer spikes that gradually fall out as hog is growing and coming back well spikey. It's called quilling and makes them really grumpy - just like babies teething.
I'm parent to a pygmy hog and live in the UK where we're so inconsiderate we've pushed wild ones to extinction 😔

Yeah, seems fairly meaningless when large corporations are responsible for by far the largest greenhouse emissions.

This video was great. My son asks if you can do one on dragonflies, aardvarks, or skunks?

I remember someone telling me how to get those quills out: You don t pull them straight out - you twist them, while gently pulling. Mind, it's still quite painful - but better than just pulling.
