Thankfully here in Texas this isn't an issue. I can go down major local roads any weekend and buy plenty of seasoned wood sold on the roadside, or get full cords delivered. I usually keep a few cooks worth on hand at any time.
Wood in the Charlotte area is in the high three hundreds. We have a lot of hickory trees. My neighbor cut down several and the workers delivered lots limbs. But I have to cut them size
You should have bought a few boxes of wood from Meadow creek when you picked up the smoker, if you went to their store in Lancaster. That's where I get my wood from.
So, with smokers, are you only suppose to put the charcoal/wood on the side grill chamber? Can you use it as a regular grill by putting charcoal in the main chamber. ?
One benefit of Arizona and triple digit heat and almost non existent humidity half the year. It doesn't take that long for the wood to dry. That's just about the only benefit I can think of haha.
Hey Kevin, in what part of Md. do you live? I have a great wood guy that will cut to size, and season to your preferred moisture content...also I went back and forth considering that Meadow Creek model b4 going another way.
Are you just using an axe to chop down the wood ? I have a similar issue where I need to break down my pieces , but a lot of my wood needs to be cut down perpendicularly and not laterally.
Bags of charcoal and wood chunks add up. One run could eat a bag of both, that would be $30 bucks a run if not more. A cord of wood is $150-300 and could last you lots and lots of cooks.

Careful know, More Yankees might be moving down from all the great things I keep hearing about Texas!
Noooooo!!! JK. Love Mesquite and a little Pecan. Better smoke flavor in my opinion. Cool vids. Nice pit. 🇺🇸
Excellent words of advice. I have a smoker coming at the end of July and I am trying to figure out how much wood I am going to need.
My smaller pieces have dried out nicely, wood came in May 4th, so 6 weeks out isn’t hateful. Enjoy the smoker!
It’s a great thing to point out
Thanks Boss!
Damn. When you go all in you go ALL IN!!! Good stuff Kev. Instant classic IMHO!
Hahahaha, Thanks Boss, appreciate it!

A lot of these are 20 inches so I’m cutting down also. I like the process but I never have the time.

Good call, great smokers!
I haven't seen a pile like that since visiting my uncle in Kentucky. That is a good size smoker too.
It was tons of fun stacking, haha!
Great information!
Thank you Sylvia!
Smaller splits are always the best way to go.
100%
Go to academy sports and get you some bags of logs to get you by until a reliable supplier is located.

Academy sells bags of wood from B&B.
I wish I had one close by! Close one to me is 10 hours.
You need to make a burn barrel and turn some of that wood to charcoal.
I've been wanting to get a burn barrel for the past 2 years since i saw Rodney Scott cook. I think that would be awesome.

Haha, it’s a dry heat they tell me!
And it's Mesquite. Wonderful Mesquite.

Easton MD, where are you?
@@ComparisonCooking sorry I missed your post. I'm in Bowie, Md and my wood guy is in Davidsonville

I have a miter saw i use to cut it down in length. I hate using it, but its a lot easier than a Sawzall.
Ever heard of a solar klin?
I’ve heard of klin dried but not solar klin.
@@ComparisonCooking pretty easy to put together and will help you quite a bit.
Smoker noob here, but wouldn't it be cheaper to buy lump charcoal and wood chips or chucks?

Dang. $190/Rick or 1/3 cord, oak
Dude build a solar wood kilm and dry it all.
Thank you, that's a good idea.
Yikes I got a cord of wood for $70
Yeah, brutal price!
