I been hunting with Partition Bullets for 50 years! Never had a failure. Recently, shot a 6X6 bull elk from A steep down hill angle at about 200 yards thru a hole in the brush. I was shooting a 300 Wby Mag with a 180 Partition Spitzer that would chronograph at 3,258 1st cold shot from dirty barrel. Bullet impacted bull in right front shoulder ball joint. Broke 2 left ribs. Took out the bottom of his lung and top of heart and exited thru left rib cage taking out two ribs. Left a golf ball size hole all the way thru him. 1 shot, 1kill. Trick, I carry steel wool and keep my points clean and sharp like a pencil. I would take with the Partition or Oryx to Africa tomorrow! Shooting distance in most cases is closer in Africa than North America. In North America if shots are 500 yards are less I would take the Partition. One exception is dangerous game Like Cape Buffalo, Brown Bear, etc. then I would chose a Swift A-Frame. I would like to see you do the test on the 175 7mm (BC = .519) and 140 6.5 MM (BC =.490) from Ultra High Velocity Cartridges.
Finding a Partition bullet has been impossible to find the last couple of years. I had to find a substitution. Which I eventually did. I'm not coming back. Next time, Nosler, close the gate BEFORE the cows get out! Thank you for the vid.
Wow! This has been my go to bullet for a while. I'm sure glad you're doing these videos. I have some Accubond 200s for the 300. I watched that video too. May need to load'em up and go test. Thanks and keep them coming. I love to see the data you're generating.
I meant to also say also, you make great videos! I'm just offering a different perspective and I don't want to sound critical of your reports. I appreciate the information you provide. Thank you for sharing your work with us.
Love the partition. I used a 200 grain version hand loaded on a 7’1” black bear. Bullet hole in and out in the hide and about a pie plate hole in and out of the ribs using my 300 RUM. The golds in 180 grain will all touch at 100 yards in my rum with hand loads. Shocked since the partitions normally don’t group as good as other bullets. I like the front end dump of the lead for mulitiple wound cavities for shock value and the rear keeps driving though. I’ll use it over any boned or all cooper bullet. I’ve tried both bonded and all copper on deer out out of my RUMs and the shock value is no where near the partitions.
The prices are ridiculous imo on all premium projectiles. I load plain old cup and core 180 grain projectiles in my rum and they do great on deer. Marketing hype unless your shooting elk, moose, or grizzly.
I wished they would put a plastic tip on it and boat tail with over all bc improvement, but they're already expensive enough! Still, love the Partions!
The dual core concept is still very valid. There have actually been variations of the dual core concept by other companies. The Winchester Fail Safe was one of them. There was also a German made RWS bullet known as H Mantle. Design concepts that work never stop working. They may get improved or eclipsed by other designs, but the basic cup and core jacketed soft point bullet from the late 1880s and 1890s is still pretty much with us and taking deer size and larger game by the unbelievable tonnage every year. Improved yes, but essentially the same concept from the advent of smokeless powder/jacketed bullet era and the huge jump in rifle bullet velocity.
Love to see 200gr partitions tested. Just bought some for my wby vanguard in 300win. I have issues with 190 & 200gr accubonds grouping consistently. Thought process is related to COAL and seating depth and the partition is a shorter bullet than the accubond.
We can add that to the list - If we do test the 200 it probably won't be in 300 WM since we've already ran the 180, it'd likely be in 300 Weatherby if we can get out hands on one.
I’m definitely surprised! The bullets look nothing like the pics of the famous partition bullet mushroom from pretty much every pic ever taken of that bullet. Again, great video guys.
Water is a brutal medium. I've used these extensively on game and seen a few lose their top core but mostly lose some weight yet retain lead on top while none lost their rear core. Even with all the new bullets on the market, I wouldn't hesitate to use a partition. Usually 180 grains or 200 grains in a 300 magnum.
Nosler Partition followed by GMX for me. Wish the prices were a bit more reasonable. But I’m a firm believer in spending money on the only piece of gear that actually contacts the animal. I’ve used Partition in 7mm mag and 308win, on deer , elk, black bear and moose. Just a great old school round that plain works. 40 yards to 325 yards, only recovered one bullet, shank intact and front smeared sideways , after passing through 2 shoulders and spine on black bear at 220 yards.

It seems to me this type of test really only shows the expansion at given ranges. Although this is very useful, I would like to see what the comparative penetration is between the two, as well as the wound channels. Of course, total depth of penetration is, itself, also not the by all end all either. A solid will penetrate, but is it better for most hunting? No. Most states require "expanding" bullets in their game laws for a valid reason. The Partition has proven itself to cause massive tissue damage through the expansion and fragmentation of the front core, and then deep penetration after that with the remaining retained rear portion of the bullet.
