Alcohol Ink Earrings - No Yupo Paper Needed - A simple Technique!

  • Alcohol ink is one of those art supplies that gives endless hours of creativity. The effects you can get with alcohol ink are absolutely amazing and you don't need to be a brilliant artist to get some wonderful backgrounds and abstract designs that you can use in other craft projects. I have used alcohol ink to create designs for beads, earrings, journal covers, pendants, digital art blends - all sorts of projects and I never get tired of playing with it.
    In my previous videos about alcohol ink projects, I have talked about using Yupo paper as a substrate for dripping the alcohol ink onto. And that is because it is not paper at all but a smooth plastic that resembles paper. Alcohol ink needs a smooth, non-absorbent surface to do its well known magic of blending and forming all sorts of wild and wonderful abstract images.
    Any absorbent surfaces, such as chipboard, are thirsty and just drink up the alcohol ink as soon as you drip it. So you can't use chipboard to create alcohol designs then - right? WRONG! Yes you can and in this video, I show you exactly how you CAN use chipboard and get similar results to using a smooth non-absorbent material.
    The technique I am sharing here is really effective for making earrings because it allows you to make the design directly on the base material you are using to make your earrings. In other videos, I show you how to drip ink onto Yupo paper to get your wonderful abstract designs, but then you have to make earring bases out of layers of cereal box card, stick them together, cut your Yupo designs out to match the base shapes and stick them on.
    The technique I show you in this video is quicker because you have only two layers of chipboard with the alcohol ink design directly on it. The earrings are gorgeous - they feel lovely and solid to touch but they are comfortable to wear and have a really nice texture to them.
    You could easily make these to sell and because they are quick to make - you can build stock very fast.
    If you like the alcohol ink design I used in this video, you can go to my website and download it as a free printable but I highly recommend having a go at creating your own designs using the technique I show you here.
    Have fun with your alcohol ink projects and thank you for watching.

Thanks so much for your support💕 Watch out as I have another one coming on Saturday (unless I decide to get outside in the lovely sunshine of course!) But hopefully there will be one at my normal time on Saturday - so maybe you will be first again! 😍 Love to Yummy and all your other little creatures of course. 🐈x

      @@RainbowLane First time being first ! I played it again for Yummy, she adores your voice. She purrs so much. Today my work was throwing out thin white card in A3 size that came as packaging. It's just normal on one side, but it's shiny on the other, so maybe it will work like yupo paper. I hope so because I was able to get 20 sheets of it.

    • @RainbowLane
      @RainbowLane  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ooh the shiny card sounds brilliant! Let me know how you get on. Twenty A3 sheets - that’s a lot of earrings! 😂😂😂Wouldn’t it be great if you made hundreds of earrings and sold them all on Etsy - how to turn free card into gold🤗Give Yummy a big hug from me.x

    Me has dado una idea genial! Tengo una tapadera de caja de cartón muy grande y fuerte y pensé hacer una bandeja pero no sabía cómo decorarla.
    Creo que le daré una capa de cola blanca para impermeabilizar el cartón y luego haré un diseño con tintas, siguiendo tus consejos. Gracias!
    Por cierto, como quedaron las tintas sobre las superficies con pegamento transparente y cola blanca? Porque la que tú utilizas es la que impermeabilizaste con Deco Maché, verdad?

    • @RainbowLane
      @RainbowLane  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hola Merxe y gracias por tu comentario y pregunta. ¡Tu bandeja de cartón suena como una idea maravillosa! Me encantaría verlo cuando esté terminado. ¡Se verá increíble! Para responder a su pregunta sobre los diferentes pegamentos, el Deco Mache fue el mejor. Le dio un hermoso acabado suave a los pendientes. El pegamento blanco también estaba bien, pero el pegamento transparente no era muy bueno. Se tardó más en secarse y estaba pegajoso. Creo que Deco Mache, cualquier buen pegamento para decoupage sería lo mejor. Muchas gracias por mirar y comentar. Es muy apreciado.🙏💕💐

    What did you use to line the hole for the ear wire? And have you used a metallic color sharpie in silver or gold to trim edges?

    • @RainbowLane
      @RainbowLane  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Heather, I use metal eyelets to line the holes. It finishes them off nicely. Yes I have used metallic markers for edging but I prefer a more subtle look. Thanks for watching, much appreciated. 🙏💕

    Do you seal them?

    • @RainbowLane
      @RainbowLane  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Robyn, I didn't seal mine and I haven't had a problem - however, if you were selling them or wearing them a lot, yes, you should seal them for longevity. You could use a spray on sealer such as Krylon Kamar Varnish. I don't like using varnishes because spraying chemicals isn't great for the lungs and I am ultra sensitive but if you were doing this commercially, you could get a proper mask to wear and do it in a room with an extractor fan. Thanks for your question and for watching🙏💕

    • @RainbowLane

    Is chip board & cardboard the same thing?

    • @RainbowLane
      @RainbowLane  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jacquie, I think that card board is called chip board in the USA. Chip board in the U.K. is very different to cardboard though, it’s Chips of wood glued together and compressed. So it depends where you lived as to what chipboard actually means to you. Hope that helps. Thank you for watching. 🙏💕
