- In this talk Oda Faremo Lindholm points to how continued, and growing, use of sexualisation and prejudice gender roles in media effects a generation of youth that's consuming record high levels of media, from a record low age.
Oda Lindholm is an historian, writer and a journalist. She started her carrier as a journalist at the age of 19, when she started writing for the free magazine called Natt&Dag. At the age of 23, she was a journalist at Dagsavisen, and responsible for the columns about culture, politics and readers’ comments section. At the age of 26, she published her first book, «Bullshitfiltert», and has been nominated to a prestigious literary award, «Brageprisen».

I'm a male and have felt all the things they say impact girls. Depression among men is widespread, this isn't a gender based crisis. This is a global crisis.
This video is so girl centric. All she was saying was what is the hard times that girls go through. If she was talking about media she should’ve talked about the poisonous propaganda that affects both genders. As a matter of fact statistically speaking as far as mental illness goes depression etc. boys statistically have it worse but we certainly should focus on who has it worse and certainly shouldn’t focus on just the stereotypes that affect the groups that we are personally affected by. Her heart was in the right place but she was to specifically focused. So amen to your comment.

imagine watching a super hero movie where the heros have average strength, average smarts, average looks. Most media especially films are supposed to take you out of your normal world and immerse you in something spectacular or extreme, films are art and money makers. They do have a powerful influence on people but ultimately you cannot please everyone and make all films not use stereo types, or have very attractive people. The way to help this issue is to not just raise awareness among film makers but rather educate the viewers on the difference between movies / media and reality.
I was forced to watch this by my english teacher but i have to admire that it was quite interesting and i fully understand what problem is the lady talking about.

Its a very interesting topic how the mass media and films have affected the psychic of people young and old. But I cannot find any interesting programs on you tube about the subject. This talk is narrow, just about the effects on young girls of today.

True, but that title would narrow the people that view this. Besides everyone can learn a thing or two from this media.
@PVTfluffy And it should narrow the way people view this video. I'm trying to find sources on a research paper of how *children* should be exposed to media. Not girls, *children*, and I just wasted maybe 6 or 7 minutes of my time on a source that isn't useful in the slightest. Not to mention her whole shpeal was chock full of loosely related facts or interpretations and much less actual statistics or lab studies. Ugh

the problem that she addressed not only happen in the western world, but also in the developing countries, as long as the internet are accessible to young people...
and why are we even discussiong about the amount of access "given", no one should be allowed to censor what should be given and what should be not, but agree with the point which says that we have to teach the youth about the reality of Media Depictions. But you shouldn't take away the media from the youth, or in this case girls.
Its sad that out all the views this video has, there are only 5 comments and there is only one that in my opinion doesnt seem to be a result of the problem that she is talking about.

Especially for woman.......as if men can do anything without being judged.....who are the last priority in case of any catastrophe and who shed their blood in wars. Societies all around the world have a use and throw policy.
Exactly, this is a human problem, too many people narrow things down to be a gender problem. We all live on this planet together, we need look past the boundaries of gender and instead try to improve humanity and society as a whole.
