"Echando a perder se aprende" means "learning through mistakes". Though a very self-explanatory phrase, I would like to explain the cultural context on how we use it here in Mexico. Given the fact that many people here have a low income, some try their luck doing something that, depending on the person's knowledge and or line of expertise, requires a bit of skill that usually someone more talented, with more expertise or an education can do, just to get some extra income, or to spare the expense on something they need to be done (vague examples: doing some construction work or fix a car) So when a neighbor or acquaintance sees you doing something you normally wouldn't, they'd tell you: oh! So you're into [insert activity] now? And you'd reply: oh, you'll see it in time. I'm learning through mistakes (echando a perder se aprende). For us mexicans, this is a way of jokingly but humbly expressing you're just giving your best shot, but eventually you'll learn the skill and be among the best out there, which was actually what happened with Dave: he gave his best shot, learned the triple shell jump and such.
Ryu: Gets garbage levels that don't test the player's skills very much. Dave: Gets some sweet kaizo levels. Well, it's good to have you back in Super-Expert. Might be a tad rusty after the hiatus, but you're a better player than you think.
Thank you for playing my Final Showdown level, DGR! :) Love your content! That section with the bombs killing the bosses is supposed to be the castle being destroyed and sinking afterwards! Makes more sense with the level description, which for some reason is not shown on endless. Take care!
I love that idiom in the last level. ''Echando a perder se aprendre.'' basically meaning ''One learns by doing.'' which is exactly the reason why DGR beat the stage in the first place! :D
@The Maydelcore You are right, though the literal translation gets a bit lost since this idiom is used in situations where you take a risk and it doesn't matter whether you succeed or fail, hence why I went with verb ''doing'' instead of ''failing.'' :)
I mean, it's sort of the equivalent idiom to "you learn more from failure than success" or "you can't make an omelette without cracking a few eggs". Alternatively, "take chances, make mistakes, get messy" for 90s kids. I'm in education, and I often try to remind my students that failure is a part of learning and getting better. I really don't care how they did on the first assignment; I care where they get by the end of the semester. In fact, I expect the first assignment to be difficult and not go as well as students expect simply because it's a completely new topic for 95-99% of students. Heck, the students who show the greatest growth are almost always the ones who legitimately tried to learn from their mistakes and kept putting in the time and effort. My straight A+ students? Very little growth. They start out about where I want them to end. My mediocre students? Very little risk in terms of time and effort. They've essentially already labeled themselves as failures and don't want to "waste" time studying when they could instead just have fun at the frat party. (Also "se aprende haciendo" is used far more often than "uno aprende haciendo")
I respect you so much for persevering in knocking out that last shell jump level! I personally don't care if you are "family friendly" but I am consistently thrilled with how wholesome you are!
i havent watched your videos too much in the last few months but i'll always be back for your sensec runs. it brings more variety to your channel, it's good material for raging and big surprises and it's fun seeing you getting better. like here you already had given up on beating the level but you stuck with it, got better and you even beat it. i was cheering with you :D. i'd love to see you getting in shape again and having a rematch with ryukahr for example (where you honestly did really well). hopefully you'll find the motivation to do sensec runs more often again. this could be your anime training arc :D.
Good job at sticking with the last level and grinding through it! It was awesome to watch you improve with almost every try (DGR guarantee excluded..) ;-) I find this a good inspiration for people watching to just keep trying difficult levels and overcoming the obstacles while watching yourself grow with the challenge. :-)
Lots of good translations in the comments but so far no one has pointed out that it’s a pretty good pun too. Literally, “echando a perder” could be translated as “throwing to lose” or “throwing a loss,” as you do when playing dice... or practicing shell jumps. Also, in a reflexive form, echando(se) can mean throwing yourself, like taking a leap of faith or, when you’re throwing a loss, jumping into a lake of lava. There are a lot of ways that it works. I’m not sure if all that was intended; I’m only about as good at Spanish as Dave is at shell jumps, but I enjoyed it and thought I’d leave that here for anyone looking for something extra.
11:54 The reason you got the extra height on that attempt was because you sprinted into the jump for an extra block of height, rather than jumping while standing. 15:05 I think your problem with the triple shell jump was that you were too slow. The third shell is on a timer, and you were taking slightly too big of jumps between the two shells at the bottom.
Dave I think you should make a "one life hail mary" rule like ryukahr, where you can skip if you can't beat the level and have one life left to keep the run alive :D
I like the fact that the creator of the last level used a Red Yoshi instead of a green one so the player wouldn't accidentally eat the shell. Then I bet he realized he could incorporate Red Yoshi even MORE by putting a bomb at the end you need to trigger with a fireball. It all seems so simple, but its the small details that make level making so ingenious.
It fits so damn good that the level name: "Echando a perder se aprende" basicly means "You learn from making mistakes" and how Dave was able to even learn to make the triple sj
That last level had such great techs especially for shell jumps good level for practice. Also great to see SENSEC again poor DGR must’ve been so traumatised by it in the past. 😰

That’s literal translation. Adaptated to the context, it says “by ruining it, you learn”

"Echando a perder se aprende" = Losing you learn
That sentence hurts my brain, is it not spanish?
@@oscarrenaupallares330 Yes it is Spanish, the flag on the Mii suggested the creator is from Mexico however we use that phrase in Puerto Rico as well.

Kinda special that Dave said "oh yeah this one's gonna be turd" when he read a Spanish title. I really hope this was an "accident"..
