    I will be ordering this VanTrue N4 3 Channel Dash Cam. I like that it even has the rear and the front and cabin as well. I will still buy two of them, as my husband also needs one in his vehicle.

      Very nice. I like it for the same reason. If you're going to take the time to install a dash cam you might as well have a rear cam too. There's a lot of activity behind us when we drive. Just as much or more than the front. It also provides another angle for car break-ins.

    Im thinking of suggesting to the manufacturer for them to put an external mic slot/input.
    For me, good audio is as important as good video.

    • @TheRideshareCoach
      @TheRideshareCoach  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, please suggest that. I have yet to see an external mic input on any dash cam from any company so far. It would be a very nice addition that I would definitely make use of. At the same time, the audio of the N4 is substantial for the purpose of a dash cam, but an external mic would be useful if you wanted to make high quality youtube videos in your car and if you wanted to capture quality sounds/talking outside of your vehicle or people whispering, etc. Please let me know if you discover a dash cam that has an external mic because I would like to test it out for my channel!

    I just installed one of these on my truck, loved that feature of it that it’s front, rear and inside camera recording... The one issue I have with it so far is that I hardwired it to my fuse panel so it can be monitoring my truck continuously, but the screen doesn’t go into a “screen saver” yep mode, so the screen goes dark... It literally stays on all night... If someone did break into my truck, it would be the first thing they see and take...

    • @TheRideshareCoach
      @TheRideshareCoach  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, it's an awesome dash cam overall. Although I like that it has parking mode and a hardwire kit, (sold separately, link in my description) I don't use that feature. My only concern when I'm parked is someone breaking into my car just for my dash cam. When I'm away from my car for a while or parked in certain areas I will use the quick release tab and store my dash cam in the glove box. However, I have a 2012 Prius. Great car but only worth 10k or so. I also never leave anything of value in my car in plain sight. If I had a more expensive car I would be concerned of stereo theft or theft of the entire car and probably consider the setup you have and it would definitely be nice to have that screen go dark. Have you tried experimenting with the settings? I remember seeing a button that automatically makes the screen dark every min, but perhaps it doesn't work for your specific setup? Let me know. I'm curious.

    • @MCClark
      @MCClark 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Genuine Driver So far, I’ve only discovered that I can turn the camera completely off, this way the screen isn’t lighting up the darkness throughout the night... But, I’ve read in the included paperwork that even off, if it’s hardwired (which I did) it still monitors everything, so, I guess that’s a good trade off... Which is what I mainly purchased this camera for, 1) recording while driving for proof in the event of accidents, and 2) parking monitoring...
      I plan I’m going through all the files later on today to see just how much is recorded during the night and while I’m parked at work... Plus I think it will help me gauge the impact sensitively level... I took your advice from this video and set it to it lowest setting, so, I’ll judge from there is it’s a good setting for me or if I need to set it to a higher one...
      Hey, let me commend you on a great and thorough video also, nothing like having someone go through all the functions of a device, especially the set up, versus having to read through it and maybe misunderstanding something...
      This video was greatly appreciated... If I discover anything new with this product, I’ll definitely let you know...

      Yes sir. In Nebraska, it can get pretty hot in the summer and very cold in the winter so you'll need the supercapacitor that the Vantrue N4 has built-in instead of the lithium-ion battery that some other dash cams have that can shut down in extremely cold or hot temperatures.

    I'm comparing this to the Rexing V1P Max. That has the GPS and Parking Mode built in, but it doesn't have any in cabin camera. I'm just debating whether I need the in cabin for the extra price and also lacking in GPS and Parking...

    • @TheRideshareCoach
      @TheRideshareCoach  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The in-cabin camera of the N4 not only captures everything inside your vehicle but also has a super wide-angle that gives you a view of things happening on the side of your vehicle outside of your windows. These are important angles that you won't get with dashcams without the in-cabin camera. Examples of when you need it are getting sideswiped or someone breaking into your car. If you ever get into any rideshare or gig ap jobs, the cabin cam is an absolute must-have. If you have the money to spend I would get the N4 and purchase the GPS and parking mode separately.

    Hi there, I noticed that you make reference, not only to the recommended VT 256GB Cl. 3 card, but also to a similar 256GB Cl. 3 card by Samsung. I understand that the write speeds are critical for dashcam applications, so I understand why a Cl. 3 card is necessary. With that in mind, my questions are:
    1) Have you used the Samsung card that you provide the link for, or any other Cl. 3 card actually, *besides* the recommended VT card?
    2) Have you encountered *any* adverse issues (gaps, failure to record, need to re-format more frequently than, say, once per month, etc.) with cards other than VT, or with any card really, **including** with VT's own 256GB Cl. 3?
    3) What is your preferred card and why?
    4) How often should I expect to need to re-format *whatever* card that I may be using in the camera?
    Thanks again for your terrific review(s) and especially for your patience with my questions; you've been incredibly helpful !

      Hi there. I've been using the Samsung Evo Select micro SD card for years with no problems at all in my Vantrue and many other brands of dashcams. This is why it is my Go-To card for everyday use. I own a 64 gb card and a 256 gb card. You only need to format the SD card once when you first put it in then it's always good to go after that. You should get it if you buy off of Amazon. If you use my promo code and get discounted products on the Vantrue.net website then you should get the Vantrue card because that is a very good deal! I've had no problems recording with their card as well. Thanks for watching and good luck!

    • @TheRideshareCoach
      @TheRideshareCoach  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. Believe it or not, the rear camera is mounted on the inside of the car against the windshield of my 2012 Prius hatchback. That is a good point though. The quality would improve if you can mount the camera on the outside, but building a camera to withstand the elements of rough weather conditions 24/7 would be expensive. The closest thing to this would be mounting a GoPro with a case to the outside of your car and you'll have to make sure to always take it off before you leave your vehicle to prevent theft. Also, wiring for automatic startup/battery charging would be a challenge to set up as well.

      "... but building a camera to withstand the elements of rough weather conditions..."
      **************************************
      Additionally, although you never see it, and although it seems relatively inconsequential, the windshield is *constantly* being bombarded by tiny and microscopic sand and dust particles, especially while driving on the highway at faster speeds. That means that an outside-mounted camera would also be subject to the same micro-bombardment.
      Over time, this constant micro-bombardment acts like sandpaper to very slightly abrade the camera lens's outer surface. And, again over time, this would lead to slightly more blurry images & subtle halo-effect characteristics as well (most pronounced at night).
      I suspect that, in a few years, automobile manufacturers (besides Tesla) will begin offering built-in driving cameras (i.e.: dashcams), perhaps installed in the rearview mirror & center brake light units, respectively, as a purchase option.
      Thanks for the great video!
      P.S.: I just bought the VT N4 two days ago via Amazon (and also the optional, adhesive-mounted GPS accessory), and I am really looking forward to installing & using both!

    • @TheRideshareCoach
      @TheRideshareCoach  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@popeyetsm2750 First of all, congratulations on a great purchase. The N4 is great and one of my favorites still today. I agree with everything you say about particles on the windshield. That's why it's important to mount the camera on the inside and clean your windshield with glass cleaner and your suction cup mount with soapy water about once a month. I have a feeling that car companies will one day include built in dash cams in the premium models of cars, the same way they offer leather seats, premium stereo, fancy rims, etc on the more expensive models. However the baseline models won't come with it. So overall, I think there will be a market for dash cams for many years to come! Thanks for watching my video!

    If it had wifi and cloud storage.. at least..
    Perfect dash cam setup is front + rear + cabin + 2 sides cameras , gps, gsm, wifi and cloud storage. A long flat display would be also nice, so we can see real time images of side and back directly in the front of our eyes, less risky than mirrors.
    Where can we find that?

    • @TheRideshareCoach
      @TheRideshareCoach  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly, as far as I know Vantrue was one of the first companies to ever make a 3 channel dash cam. All of the other brands are trying to catch up to them. You will find a few 3 channel dash cams from other companies that also have wifi but I can't speak of the quality of those at this point. Also, I've never seen a dash cam with 2 additional side cameras which would make it a 5 channel dash cam at this point. This has yet to be developed. With all that being said, I still say the Vantrue N4 is the best for the money, but go check out Rexing and Zenfox. They have the closest dash cams to what you are looking for. www.amazon.com/REXING-3-Channel-170%C2%B0Angle-Recording-Supercapacitor/dp/B084TBF5YM/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=3+channel+dash+cam&qid=1609650288&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&smid=A6UEJTLUY290N&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyR01RMVlZSUNTTDFYJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwOTk1Mzk5M001Qlg0SzdIV1pGWiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMDg5ODA5MjVVNzlGVEFMVlROTCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

For now, I'm happy with my N4 because with the wide dynamic range it covers a good amount on the sides of your vehicle from the cabin camera and most dash cam wifi and apps are finicky and need a lot of work so I'm fine sticking to the proven and tested micro sd cards for now until they make this more reliable in the future.

    Can the camera record someone squatting down to scratch your car trying to avoid getting caught on camera?

    • @TheRideshareCoach
      @TheRideshareCoach  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a good question. I will tell you that the Vantrue N4 has a significantly wider viewing angle compared to most older dash cams including the N2 pro. Go look at my footage in this video with the inside cabin view. You'll notice that you can see outside all 4 windows. Of course, my front seats block some of that view, but nonetheless, the view is great. You would be able to see if someone was keying your car if a tall person was standing or crouching while doing it. Now, if it were a small child or perhaps the tall person could crouch/crawl way below the window and then also crawl their way away from the scene, then they would probably be out of the frame and get away from keying your car. However when they crawl away towards the front or back of the car and even on the sides, those cameras are going to pick up some video of them, but it will probably just be the back of their body and not their face as long as the criminal is smart enough not to directly face the car when crawling away. Hope this helps.

    • @TheRideshareCoach
      @TheRideshareCoach  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't understand why this experiment would have any use. My rear cam is wired to the back of my vehicle and affixed there with adhesive tape so it would be very inconvenient to move. The front camera is useful to be in the front because it has all of the important menu functions and settings. You also can't use the rear without the front camera because it plugs directly into the front camera to get power. Therefore the rear camera is useless by itself without the front camera. I hope this helps.

    I was looking on amazon for the Samsung evo sd card but there is a blue one that is cheaper than the one you recommended, which is the best? And I found the one you recommended on the Samsung page at $30 and on Amazon is at $70

      I bought the blue one for about $30 after tax but I haven't found the time test it yet. The price on the green/white one went way up since I made this review and I don't know why besides the fact that almost everything is expensive these days. It's hands down the best card I've ever used. However the specs on the blue one look nearly identical. I need to test the blue one first before I can give a stamp of approval though. If it turns out good then I'll eventually replace my link in the description because the price difference is crazy right now.

    I am thinking of buying either the N4 or the Thinkware U1000. I am just wondering if there is any benefit of having a cabin facing camera.

    • @TheRideshareCoach
      @TheRideshareCoach  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are many benefits of having a cabin facing camera.
      1. It provides inside video coverage if something happens in your car concerning an accident, vandalism, or theft.
      2. It provides another angle of coverage if you are hit on the right or left side of your car. This is even more of a benefit with the N4 compared to other brands since the cabin camera has a super wide angle lens. Watch my video footage to see what I'm talking about. 7:52 You don't get video on the left and right side of your vehicle at all with a basic front and rear camera.
      3. If you do rideshare like Uber or Lyft it is essential to film what is going on in your car in the event that an altercation happens or words are exchanged.
      4. Since it's dangerous/risky to take notes while driving, sometimes I'll leave video reminders to myself totally hands-free. And sometimes I'll practice singing, rapping, etc. and watch it later to see what I can improve on. It's fun for long drives.

    Which is best ?

    • @TheRideshareCoach
      @TheRideshareCoach  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They both function the same and both have a smart low voltage protection system that will automatically shut off the power to your dash cam when the battery voltage drops to 11.6V or 22.8V, thus preventing it draining the battery. The only difference is the location of the "control box". I prefer the fuse box hardwire kit because the OBD kit has the "control box" on the wire near where it plugs into the camera so you have to attach the control box to your windshield. The control box on the regular fuse box kit is close to where you attach the wires to your fuse box so you can hide the box in your fuse box. This difference makes the fuse box version better in my opinion. The only reason you'll want to buy the OBD version is if your car is not compatible with the fuse box version. I've heard of this happening to a few people who had a new Ford automobile. Here's the Amazon link to both if you need: Fuse box version: amzn.to/3iZp8Uq OBD version: amzn.to/2YpYY5s

      The rear camera has a section for mounting with 3M sticky tape attached to it. It can be attached to any clean surface. I have mine attached to the window of my hatchback inside the vehicle. So, the high quality footage you are seeing in my video from the rear is being filmed inside the car and behind the glass window. Most SUV's have a design similar to a hatchback except it's bigger with a flatter window. You can mount the rear cam anywhere on that back window and face the camera out. The camera rotates 360 degrees to get a perfect angle. The tape they give is super strong and sticky and the rear cam is very light-weight so it stays put. They even give 1 back up replacement tape just in case you need to remount it somewhere else. Run the cable from the rear cam up into your headliner all the way to your front cam. Leave enough slack so that when you open your SUV back door it doesn't tug on the cable. The cable is super long so this is no problem. There's also a very good instruction manual that comes with the camera that guides you through this process.

      Tom Kane I suppose you could use a friends computer if you ever need to transfer the footage. I’m on my desktop computer almost everyday and I have a laptop for backup so this model is ideal for me. I would recommend having a computer if you want to use the full value of the N4. Otherwise, you’ll still be able to save footage on the dash cam forever so that it doesn’t get recorded over and you’ll be able to play it back on the built in screen, but you won’t be able to send the footage to anyone unless you have a device with a micro sd card reader.

If you are talking about the whole entire system with the cables and all...then it will require quite a bit of time. I have a question I was hoping you might answer. I’m thinking of selling my N2 Pro and getting the N4 as it has a rear camera and a capacitor instead of a battery. I currently use my N2 Pro in front camera mode only (no cabin) and use the setting 1920 x 1080 60fps. I noticed the N4 records at 1440 x 1080 30fps when using only front and rear camera. • @TheRideshareCoach
      @TheRideshareCoach  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would definitely recommend selling the N2 Pro and getting the N4 as an upgrade. The capacitor will perform better and have a longer life span in hot or cold. The N2 Pro doesn't have the rear cam, so if you get rear-ended, you have zero footage. I'll take the drop from 1920p to 1440p for the front cam any day to get rear camera footage. On paper, 1920p should be slightly better than 1440p, but you have to take into account the N4 has a new lens, new Sony sensor, and better night vision. Also, the inside cabin camera has a wider viewing angle(25 degrees wider than N2 Pro). This allows you to get a clear shot if somebody were to hit you from the side. I'm not sure why you don't use the cabin camera, but I would recommend it for extra coverage. If you watch my actual driving footage you can see everything that I'm talking about here: 6:51 Get the N4 for sure.

I have never had this happen with my N2 Pro, the only difference I can find between the 2 cameras is the N2 Pro has a TFT LCD display where the N4 has a IPS LCD Display. Hi. Thanks for watching. If you email me at nephijames808@gmail.com I can send you whatever you need with google drive or drop box. As far as I know, the GPS data is burned into the video image and stored as 1 complete file. On the micro SD card there are only video files with the GPS information on the video and there are no other separated files. Another thing to mention is that I never used a GPS mount (sold separately) when filming this N4 video so none of my raw footage has GPS info on it anyway. However, I recently did a review on Vantrues newest dash cam the N2S and it comes with a GPS mount and I have raw footage with GPS info on those clips stored on my computer and I've never seen any separate GPS files. Here is my review on that so that you can see what the video looks like at least. th-cam.com/video/nF2osXf3d8g/w-d-xo.html

      All of the footage I used for this video was on record while driving. There is a lock button located on top of the dash cam. If you ever get into an accident again you want to make sure to press this button if you are able to after the accident to lock the footage so it can't get accidentally overwritten. Other than that, you will obviously want to upload the footage to your computer as soon as possible after the accident. Another thing to remember is that if you got hit hard enough, the G-sensor(depending on the sensitivity level that you set it at) should be able to register the impact and automatically lock that clip. @@iship9705 All you need to do is make sure that your plug is fastened securely into your 12 volt (cigarette lighter) charger and into the dash cam and make sure your car is turned on with a good battery.

      Yes it does. You can get a hardwire parking mode kit and I have that in the description of this video as well.
