Gabe and Teddy, I'm glad you are bringing this up. My son was on the 2022 and 2023 team and had this exact same injury. Pulled quad, get a little better try to play again. Injure it again, recover 3-4 weeks and do it all over again. Was told an Mri was not necessary multiple times. Finally we went outside of the program for help and had an Mri and did have a tear. This is amazingly hard on the player and the players family. I feel for Nic and his family. My son did leave and earned a full scholarship in the BIG 10 and health as can be. He is a life long Sooner, 5 the generation Sooner and it was a difficult time. Proud of my son and believing in himself and stick with his dream to play D1 football. Love my Sooners and always will. No hard feelings. Nic you're going to be ok, with the proper care you will be back better than ever. I don't wish this on anyone ever, was a brutal time in my son's life.

Doesn't OU have on-site mri equipment? I would think that an MRI and x-ray would be done right away. Not saying OU doesn't miss up but we don't get the schools side of injury treatment in college like we we do at the NFL level. My wife has been in the hospital more than we like and MRIs are pretty common.

I think "quitting on the team" is, except in rare cases, quitting on the people who aren't putting you in position to perform. Nic Anderson getting his own MRI to diagnose his injury and driving to Edmond for treatment is so ridiculous that I wouldn't have thought it possible at a power 4.

You guys may not be a medical professional, but I am. Should the details reported be what actually happened (for the record I trust Gabe and Teddy), Med Staff has some serious explaining to do. The threshold for ordering an MRI on everyday folk is pretty darn low, therefore, I can’t fathom as to why that would not have been part of the work up at the time of injury, certainly after it was re-injured. This reeks of incompetence and certainly something the program does not need weighing it down or manipulated into ammunition to be used in negative recruiting, we have handed out enough of that already… 🤦🏻

That said, it adds up to a net negative as far as recruiting and retention goes. There is little reason to think we can get everything in order by next year, or 2026. Jerry Schmidt has a history of over-training and injuring athletes. Weightlifting adds body weight via muscle mass thus adding stress to ligaments, tendons, and your cardiovascular and skeletal system. You beef up an athlete and then subject him to non-stop silly agility drills, you wear him out and set him up for a tear. Eric Striker was a better player at Oklahoma in years 1 & 2 than he was all beefed up and stiff in years 3 & 4 at Oklahoma. Do not put your health in the hands of a meathead or a doctor. Tom Brady is the poster child for staying away from the team's meathead strength program and received criticism by the Patriots organization but had a long career using exercise bands.

Asset has voice that can speak to position coach about concern and dissatisfaction. Position coach has a voice to communicate concerns asset has about course of repair . Position coach fails to inquire? Position fails to investigate and report concerns asset has to CEO. (CEO angry because asset still unusable to the point asset is no longer an asset) WTF over?

There should be an investigation to the training staff given how many injuries there were the season. There should never be a lack of medical care as to the costs involved. An MRI should be automatic in some situations.
Despite the fact that this is Nic Anderson’s perspective, it still needs to be looked at because if you’re losing players, you’re not just losing them to the portal. You’re also losing them to injury.
In lieu of the fact that Venables conducts extremely aggressive practice sessions. It should be just as aggressive by the training staff for them to make sure that they prevent and address injury with the utmost attention. They should be held accountable. Furthermore, this brings up the possibility of legal liability and Worker Comp. type law could even come to play in this because now these are professional players, and that’s a job that they’re doing and they’re getting injured on the job.
A whole bunch of liability issues raised here, but it does make you wonder about how college football is going to handle this high risk, high injury, sport or now suddenly all the players are just students, but they’re professional athletes they’re being paid-negligence on the part of their training, staff could end up ruining a career(s).

I’ve been telling my husband that something is off with all these injuries. It doesn’t make sense these guys who are in phenomenal shape aren’t healing better than this. To hear they aren’t immediately doing MRIs is ridiculous. Throughout all my kids sports injuries I demanded MRIs when the Dr couldn’t without a doubt tell us what was wrong. I learned that the hard way and said never again will I let them string my kids along like this.

I would like to say I wonder if directives have been given to not approve MRIs. I tripped over my dogs cot in the dark while carrying a clipboard. It turned and was driven into my left side. I was in pain beyond being able to describe. I went to my doctor and got an X-ray and it showed rib contusion and crack of 6th and 7th rib. My pain was deep and my doctor refused to order an MRI to look to see if I had muscle torn or even a spleen injury. I am an active person and said I need to see if I have a muscle tear because it will not heal if I am moving in ways to not let it heal. Response was, Well if it hurts to move a certain way, don’t move that way. I had to call my chiropractor to get my MRI ordered.

Why did the backups play SEC starters all season and manage to stay on the field? An MRI wasnt performed or whatever but we're gonna pay Bauer Sharp? We're supposed to believe that OU couldn't put a player under an MRI machine for maybe an hour?
