The greatest entertainer to take the stage, light the blue touch paper and the laughter starts, a true gem and never a swear word. RIP Doddy never another like you god bless.
So very sad to hear of Doddys passing, not only have we had to say goodbye to a legend we’ve also witnessed the the end of an era, Rest in peace Sir Kenneth Dodd and thank you for over 60 years of fun and laughter. 😢🇬🇧 I had the pleasure of attending a show of this great man, sadly the once but what a night and almost morning 😂
I think Doddy had one of the most underrated voices in British entertainment. It's just a terrific sound, delivered flawlessly. No Autotune, no forced vibrato .. lovely tone, very well placed and great intonation. Give me these any day, and forget the belting, shrieking voices of people with huge ranges but little to no finesse .. singers who can't sing a legato line without inserting all sorts of trills in order to disguise the fact they can't sustain a note. Lovely man and hugely talented.
Rest in peace to a wonderful man and a perfect entertainer. He will always be remembered for his 5 hour long skits and the jokes he would tell. A real and true entertainer.
He was a truly beautiful soul who brought so much light and happiness into so many peoples lives including mine. It was honour to have met him. A legend of comedy and a winner of hearts. We miss you my special absent friend.
I had the pleasure of seeing the great man six times at Venue Cymru in Llandudno. I have never laughed so much in all my life. He was and is a national institution and brought happiness to millions of people. His jokes about the taxman are hilarious. Once on stage he simply could not get off and had he had the choice he would haves carried on cracking jokes until 3 or 4 in the morning. How he remembered so many jokes is a miracle. You were a genius Sir Ken and a very lovely. man. RIP.
I only saw him live once and it was at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool round about 1965 or `66. There are two things that I remember. One was arriving home with an aching stomach through laughing and the other was the queue at the toilets at the interval which was still long when the second half of the show began.
You were one of the best, you made us laugh so much, but of course every road must end..your road has ended, but you have left us with a lovely legacy, you were our very special friend..perhaps when our life is over, we will meet in that great beyond x x
Arrrrr Old Doddy god bless him Dedicated his life to each and every one of us I'm still struggling to cope with out Sir Ken Dodd God bless him our shinning Light has gone Rip Doddy
A beautiful, remarkable human being, brim full of love and talent - and the generosity to share it. Forever loved! Sleep blissfully Sir Ken, your work here is done. XXX
A sad day for British comedy, the last of the great variety comedians, Sir Ken Dodd passed away on 11/3/2018 at the age of 90. Thank you for the many laughs & great nights out, privileged to have met you on two occasions & had a lovely chat, such a gentleman & wonderful entertainer....’lets raise our hands to absent friends, for every road must end’....be at peace 😥
For years, I tried to get tickets to see Ken Dodd. His legendary shows were known to last a lot longer than advertised. Most entertainers would do an hour or so on stage - Ken Dodd was known to keep going for over 3 hours! - Sadly, everytime we heard where he was performing, tickets were always sold out well in advance. But, I did get to say hello to the man himself in 2005, in a second hand bookshop close to Liverpool Lime Street Station. He had his hair flattened, and was wearing a long tartan/check coat and a large scarf. Didn't recognise him at first, until my Liverpudlian girlfriend said ''there's Ken Dodd''. It felt like an honour being in the same space and being able to say ''Hello!'' to him. And that's all I said: ''Hello!''...and he said ''Hello!'' back! I didn't hound him for anything and didn't bother him for an Autograph. I respected the man too much for that. Despite his passing, with the power of the Internet and media-sites like TH-cam, he will still carry on spreading Happiness to future generations.
A gorgeous memory of a great man - thank you for sharing it here! Ken loved books, and when I was lucky enough to work with him as a youngster on 'An Audience with Ken Dodd', he was kind enough to recommend a favourite London bookshop to me for my comedy book passion! I will treasure my memories of a few wonderful months basking in this remarkable man's company. He was a comic genius and the finest comedian Britain - and no doubt the world - has ever produced.
I lost my Mum yesterday, aged 87, and when this came on in the car today, we both went to bits. RIP Mum and King Kenny. What a party you lot are having in heaven now.
I feel like the best club in the world has gone that group of people who always left the theatre completely exhausted but full of happiness at 1 in morning. The club who never had ice in their drinks because the bar staff didn't know when the interval was. The group which had in its ranks a fleet of mobility scooters. And, like Ken, a group proud of Britain. God Bless you Ken and thanks for the happiness all our lives
This was played at my father's funeral last Thursday. Being a scouser my dad was a big fan of ken Dodd. And every time i hear this song i just think of my dad.
ah I am so sorry, I am trying to sort that out now to do the same for my Dads funeral , he passed away a few days ago, he was born in Knotty Ash and knew Kens grandad.
The north and particularly Liverpool, have given the nation stand-up comedy which unlike that from the southern counties, has kept the whole nation entertained for decades. Ken Dodd even among his peers going back generations, was superlative at his craft. He had the most skill, experience and value for money, of any comic of his generation. Sadly, there is nobody to replace him.
It’s Never Goodbye Ken, it’s Just a see you later. Please don’t keep the Heavens laughing too much, there’s still Loads Of Work to be done. We’ll all missing you and will ALWAYS miss you. You know what though, Just Thankyou for Giving us a Joy to live for Everyday and Thankyou for allowing us to spend your Most Precious time with you. See you soon Friend.
Ryan oh My Gosh, I was Crying so hard when I wrote this, sorry for the spelling mistakes. Kenn Dodd was, from being a Young boy (Baby) my FAVOURITE person to listen to. He was an Incredible comedian and my favourite part about him, was that he could sing and Tell a Funny Joke, Without hurting, Humiliating or bad mouthing ANYONE!!!! Now, that’s TRUE Comedy. As I was told, a good comedian puts himself down first before he goes to anyone else but Kenn Dodd was a Genius!!!!!! Never Gone and Always in our hearts.
