"Eshet Chayil of Hip Hop" is a feminist update on the ancient Jewish song "Eshet Chayil" (Woman of Valor). The video explores the unlikely parallels of female objectification in two clashing worlds-Hip Hop and Orthodox Judaism.

@@DJW1981 The opening and refrain is Hebrew. There's a little bit of Yiddish in there. And the most "aggressive" rap line is actually in my native tongue, Swiss German.

I’ve been filled with rage at the Chassidim for some time now. My father’s entire family were Chassidim, all murdered at Treblinka. The combination of the above has given me a headache.
And I found this to be crass and vulgar. You lost me with the shtreimel. I’m not sure which is worse, going to the scene of the “criminals” in Jerusalem, the Manhattan dance with all wearing shtreimels, or the rapping, amateurishly appropriating the music of people who beat Chassidim and never get called on it. Maybe stick with Edith Piaf.

I am an artist and worked with music more than thirty years in L.A/ Hollywood and I am also a Jewish woman and can not see the point for disrespecting the culture of many as using an shtreimel like you are doing... if you want to make it in the secular music industry, better reconsider other people’s values... we must respect people’s culture and it’s not cool to bring their culture down just because “you are down”. This is not cool.

I always found it funny how for a movement that maintains that woman is actually the most spiritually advanced of the G-d's creations, even more advanced than men, Hasidism has a funny way of showing it. Asked a rabbi once how come Torah could endorse a woman as a judge and a leader of her nation, but we see no women on Ultra-Orthodox Beit Dins these days, still waiting for a coherent answer.
