Interesting, are you saying you will be praying to a christian deity for a Buddhist monk? Just wondering. Buddhists do not pray for each other, just chanting and sutras to the Buddha or a Bodhisattva ..
@@WalkingmanPattaya He's praying to his deity for another human being. Beliefs are irrelevant in death and many other cases. My wife was chanting when my father passed away. He was a christian. Respect is, respect. Just saying 🙏
Uncle Monk is world wide famous we all know Uncle Monk through you ! I was fascinated by his history. I have a Tibetan brother who was a monk before he came to New Zealand as a refugee to our family. He now works with the UN & Dalai Lama. I think their way of passing is beautiful maybe he doesnt feel pain ?
Thailand has such a graceful and dignified approach to the cycle of life. A passing. A rebirth. A passing. A rebirth. Nothing really ends. And thats a beautiful and healthy approach. ❤ In the west its often....." You? Why are you the executor ? It should be me !! Etc etc etc " 🙄😅
Ryan , Demo, my thoughts and prayers go out to the family, but on a lighter side Uncle Monk has only come to the end of one chapter in his life, on passing or transition another page is turned and another chapter begins , he will be aware of this through his teachings and the cycle of life, may he have a peaceful passing without pain 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on death and dying. I’m 3 months shy of my 77th birthday. Here in Pak Chong, there is a type of monastic hospice called Pa Makham Hermitage (สำนักสงฆ์ป่ามะขาม) where end of life support is provided. In BKK, there is the “Priest Hospital” and many other hospitals which treat the monastic community, even at the end of life. I just want to give a more complete picture of the healthcare services that are available to the monastic community in Thailand. I really enjoy the vlogs.
End of life transition... Nobody wants to think or talk about it, usually. That transition comes for all of us! No escaping it! Better be prepared. Bangkok hospital informed me a few years back that they have hospice care, including morphine and other easing meds. But... Probably costs an arm and a leg.. So don't forget your health insurance guys (and girls)
So sorry to hear about Uncle monk thank you for shatter this private moment. I have some experience of this , my mum had multiple organ failure heart kidneys liver she went from hospital to a nursing home . She was no longer my mum if you can understand, she was in another placemat gone back to younger days it was 14 days of pain for her she fought against it all the way .she said her dad had come to collect her .in more or less her last breath she said to me in Who last words you know I will always love you I'm just slipped away .I hope it will be quick for me not sure I could go through what my mum did she was only 72 , but after that I have no fear of dying . I pray Uncle Monks passing will be peaceful as he transitions in to whatever comes next for him. Sending love and sympathy the whole family I'm friends
What a sad news indeed 😢Thinking of Damo’s family and her Dad now❤thank you for such a nice vlog Ryan - so considerate and thoughtful 🤍🕊️😔… and when his time comes - I hope that Uncle Monk has a peaceful and pain free passing to another life🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🪷
Sorry to hear about your wife’s uncle, irrespective of what anyone’s life’s path is the gentleman who’s journey started off as a drinking person and all the trails and tribulations that occurs within that life , his journey took a different path and became a Monk and a very respected one also , Moral to his or any of our journeys how it starts doesn’t mean it has to stay the same, bless his soul , my regards to his brother.
So sorry to hear not good news. My thoughts are with everyone in the family 🙏 Incidentally, my mum had kidney failure too and was on dialysis for a few years. Will be thinking of Loong Monk in my prayers. 🙏
I've been a voluntary palliative carer for the last 8 years and I've seen some many clients suffer, even with medication. I've said to my wife, Chanjira, that if I ever get to the point of where I become dependent and terminal, I will find or ask for a King Cobra. I'd rather have 30 minutes of suffering than 30 days/weeks.
Peace Uncle Monk 🙏 Indeed its also a time to reflect on oneself at times like this. With reference to the nut (areca nut), paan leaf (piper betel) & staked lime paste chewies ..many of my generations 2-3 times before me ate those. I tried as a young child because I was curious. The leaf itself is pepperish, the nut tasted like a nut and white paste (slaked lime)..the combo made your mouth all red and discoloured the lips and tongue, stained the teeth etc. I believe my older folks generations ago said its addictive, and ewwww!! I remember the 'spitoons' quite yucky!! The is a special aroma when chewing that the betel nut...
Sorry to hear that anyone is passing away. I pray for his peace as he passes. After watching my father die last year makes me worry about my own death. It was a difficult passing for us to cope with. Buddhist philosophy makes dying so much simpler with the reincarnation aspect of life. It does make me look at my own mortality.
Regular, heavy use of betel nut may eventually cause: Discolouration of teeth and gums, sometimes turning them reddish-brown. Mouth ulcers and gum disease. Oral cancers or sub mucous fibrosis (a pre-cancer condition) Stomach ulcer. Heart disease. ... Needing to use more to get the same effect. Dependence on betel nut.
So sad when a family member passes on, hugz to Mo and yourself and the family ❤..... on the upside it is our primary purpose to carry on the family legacy to replace what we lose. We cry when one passes and celebrate when one is born. Good Vlog Ryan
I believe death is final and from my experience life is learning from mistakes made and as you get older you realise that all the bs that was important to you when younger was just that bs. Superb videos, both of them. Each chalk full of earned wisdom from your (and those you've known or learned from) experiences and subsequent conclusions on finding an acceptable fit within your life and what it's all about in this vast universe we inhabit for a flash in time. Your depth of thoughts, as you were sitting on the edge of that old wooden flat bed trailer, mirrored your years of seeking answers we all have during idle restful moments, typically during evening hours before slipping into a night of deep rest. Kudos for a winning video. Thank you.
I just read about Aldous Huxleys passing,,,Something I would never have contemplated,,,I doubt I would have the courage. Commiserations to your wife’s family.
I wonder if the Thai betel nut is the same as the one alot of the tribal Papua New Guineans eat! I worked there 10 years ago in the jungle on a new LNG plant and it was very popular amongst the locals. Our local security guy even asked me if I wanted some smuggling in to camp on Christmas Day to celebrate with lol. I declined his offer unless he could accompany it with alcohol. Hope Uncle Monk's passing is as painless and stress free as possible for everyone. He's led a good life and now it's time to move on X
Thank you for sharing Ryan. Your view of life and death is very similar to mine, although our beliefs may be different. As a Christian, I have never feared death, just the manner of dying. I watched both my parents die over a long period of illness but was with them both for their last breath which was so freeing and strangely uplifting, knowith that their time on this earth had ended and that they had gone to a better place. You are right Ryan when you say that in UK there is palliative care available, but even with that, my sister took 6 years to die from a brain tumour, bed-ridden and not really knowing what was going on much of the time. It is that long drawn out dying that I fear. I am more than twice your age and have lived a full and varied life, not always being "good" and I have many regrets. Like you I always regard anyones death as an opportunity to reflect on one's own mortality and weigh up the goods and bads on the scales of life. It is good to regard death as a natural part of our lives and to celebrate that life and the passing to a better place. I come form a family of centenarians and have an Aunt, my brother's sister, who is 109 years old (29th oldest person in Britain) and still has all her faculties. We have many interesting conversations over the telephone about life and death as you can imagine. Looks like I might have 30 years still left in this realm 🙂 I hope and pray that Uncle Monks death may not be a long protracted one and that he soon may slip away to another shore. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Damo and the whole family at this time. May God bless you, comfort you and strengthen you now and always. 😀❤🙏
At age 85,,, much of what you discussed here today, I am feeling. My life has been so interesting, have been so fortunate to have experianced so much. My experiance in Asia, as a youngster i was involved for years with the Tibetians,, getting the Dia Lima out of Tibet and helping the Tibetians fight the Chinese for years for their independance. i was also involved with the Thai people,,, they taught me so much.
Prayers for Uncle Monk to have a transition with peace and that it is as pain-free as possible. My condolences to the family and those who have loved and learned from him. 🙏❤😥
So sorry to hear brother - hopefully it will be a peaceful transition, and a well lived and faithful religious life will be thoroughly celebrated in due process. Thinking of you all. Much love.
Feeling great after listening to this video, praying that uncle Monk will not suffer as he passes. You are so right about all that you spoke of Ryan. Thank you 😊 I was wondering if uncle can have THC on his tongue for pain?
Beetle nut is available in my state also, when i tried i got a bad sort of kick like my head started spinning and went off to sleep for like 2,3 hours 😂
I really enjoyed hearing your spiritual views and reflections on life and Buddhism Ryan. Blessings to Uncle Monk. Feeling very grateful. 🙏 "Long is the cycle of birth and death to the fool who does not know the true path.”
I am a retired nurse. It sounds like he is very close to death now. His vital signs are very low. Death is the only given living things have. We all will die. His religion and faith will carry him to his next journey. As one comes into the world, one will pass out. I pray that he has a peaceful passing. ❤🙏
We live everyday but only die once in this incarnation. Always sadness and reflection at these times. Every time I partake of the Devils lettuce, am I feeding the dark side? Am still fearful of death at 65, more so injuries and pain. Grateful always for another day. Be here now. PS. Aldous Huxley took some "Owsley" to assist in his passing from terminal cancer
Good thing to know if you plan to retire there. I personally would definitely want the option to relieve my suffering and end my life it it came to that.
I wouldn't think chewing the Bettel Nut, and the chewing Tobacco would effect his Kidneys. As you spit it out. Nothing goes into your body past your throat. My Wife's Grandma chews them religiously. And she's been warned of Mouth Cancer. But like you said, she's 84 and says she will die before long anyway! But maybe Uncle Monk has a problem with his Kidneys anyway.
You could give him cranberry juice for his kidneys. It's a cleanser. It will ease his pain. Also, since you smoke weed, you could blow smoke in his face. That will make him sleepy and happy. -Regards from Panama City, Panama. Also, I have been to heaven twice; there is life after this; once in 1996 and then again in 2004. Life continues. The soul never dies. - Sincerely, Robert Stroney. 06 19 2023.
My Thai wife insisted we allow our dog die a slow and painful death from kidney disease. That's how they are here with dying and it's extremely cruel and senseless if you ask me.
As a Therevada monk Uncle will believe that the body and mind ( nama/rupa ) will end and return to nature as will all life forms. Uncle will know that the life-force ( citta ) will seek to migrate to a new birth and the circumstances of that new birth will depend entirely on his khamma and it is beneficial to have a clear untroubled mind at the time of passing. As your wife will know, it will ease Uncles passing to hear monks chanting from the suttas, which I am sure they will. Morphine would be an obstruction to hearing the Dhamma if Uncle is not in pain. I know Uncle has earned much merit as a monk for a favourable rebirth. Namo tassa bhagavaddo arahato samasambhuddasa. Namo tassa bhagavaddo arahato samasambhuddasa. Namo tassa bhagavaddo arahato samasambhuddasa. Buddham, Dhamman, Sangham Namachami. 🙏🙏🙏 Peace and love to you all.
You must have had too much of the lime with the beetlenut which made you feel a hot rush in your head. We in Meghalaya eat it too we call it Kwai(beetlenut) and Tympew(beetle leaf). 😊
Hey Ryan and Damo, when someone is dieing I think you should have something to ease the pain. In America it is the right of the ill person to have as much pain killers as they can handle. Ove the past 6 years I have had to deal with a number of deaths, my Mom was the hardest to handle. Mom kept asking me "why won't God let me die?" Finally I asked her "is that what you want?" And she said yes. I told her that all she had to do is stop eating and drinking any liquids and you should be dead in 4 day's. She was dead in 2 days. I was holding her left hand when she took her last breath. I struggled with the guilt of telling my Mom how to die but in the long run I believe it was the right thing to do. I cried for 3 solid months. I couldn't do anything, just cry. Thoughts of Uncle Munk, it is sad that you are losing him but it sounds like it's his time to go. The part about the kidneys shutting down will let all the toxins that your kidneys filter out of your system to go into your bloodstream and cause hallucinations. This is one of the things that happened to my Mom. She would see people in the room with her and later she would talk about it and tell me how real it was at the time. I lost my brother David about a year ago and my x wife died 3 years ago and two I lost my oldest brother Tom. I am the last of my family that is still alive. I don't know how much longer I have but all of those deaths have made me a little more concerned about my health. I've droped 40 pounds and I've joined a gym. I go every day to the gym and workout. I would like to live to 100 but I don't know if I can do it. I've only have 24 years to go. Lol
Wisdom and knowledge, both recurring themes in the Bible, are related but not synonymous. The dictionary defines wisdom as “the ability to discern or judge what is true, right, or lasting.” Knowledge, on the other hand, is “information gained through experience, reasoning, or acquaintance.” Knowledge can exist without wisdom, but not the other way around. One can be knowledgeable without being wise. Knowledge is knowing how to use a gun; wisdom is knowing when to use it and when to keep it holstered.
Wisdom is a gift from God. James 1:5 states, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” God blesses us with wisdom in order for us to glorify Him and use the knowledge we have of Him.
Sad that Uncle Monk has no hospice care. When he stops eating and drinking the Diazepam/Valium might help him die. Why is diazepam no longer prescribed? There is evidence use of these drugs stops the normal adjustment response that would gradually lessen anxiety over time, and may increase anxiety in the long term, especially if used repeatedly. Diazepam and similar controlled drugs are illegal in a number of countriesi.
the white paste is almost like a battery acid it helps break down the nut thats why most dont have much teeth left. if you swallow the spit youll get sick and dizzy just like chewing tobbacco. in philippines i did every thing wrong while riding in a bus down the most swervy curvy roads on earth. almost puked on the bus. i didnt thank goodness the locals were laughing at me. glad i was some sort of entertainment for them watching the american get sick. anyways great memories.
Grow old is the goal. Then let go and come back home to the DNA of infinite universal consciousness . TOTAL encompassing blissful love, peace and acceptance. DMT release will set your spirit free (or with some space juice like Huxley did it)
Ryan , Love your content but you sometimes depress me with talk of life expectancy, I am now almost 65 have achieved much and am enjoying the benefits of such, though sadly without my beautiful wife who succumbed to cancer 11 years ago. Whilst I am routinely conscious of similar aged people passing, I don’t expect it for at least 20 years. I now have 2 grandchildren of Hugo’s age who keep me young and my intent is to see them married if possible. My Father is still soldiering on at 89 and I plan to surpass him. You are still young and have a long life to live, don’t worry yet about the next stage.

I am a retired nurse. It sounds like he is very close to death now. His vital signs are very low. Death is the only given living things have. We all will die. His religion and faith will carry him to his next journey. As one comes into the world, one will pass out. I pray that he has a peaceful passing. ❤🙏
Thank you Cat 🙏
We live everyday but only die once in this incarnation. Always sadness and reflection at these times. Every time I partake of the Devils lettuce, am I feeding the dark side? Am still fearful of death at 65, more so injuries and pain. Grateful always for another day. Be here now. PS. Aldous Huxley took some "Owsley" to assist in his passing from terminal cancer
Good thing to know if you plan to retire there. I personally would definitely want the option to relieve my suffering and end my life it it came to that.
i tryed Betel in Burma, i got strong burning feel to the gums and red mouth :) that was all, no any "high" or anything like that.
Love your speech
The cycle of life. It is so natural.
Hello Ryan God bless you and family
@@mythai05 I mean in the end, its the same outcome, regardless of the reasoning.

A neurologist who is a specialist in insomnia could help.I watched a video that they give the date Rape drug for fibromyalgia patients for insomnia.
Thanks, great video.
Glad you liked it!
Lol
what is "Uncle monk´s " monk name, "luang po ---- ?
In the midst of life
We are in death.
All the best, Ryan
thanks
Hi
Lovely vlog, honestly !
God bless
Thank you 😊
Wisdom and knowledge, both recurring themes in the Bible, are related but not synonymous.
Diazepam and similar controlled drugs are illegal in a number of countriesi.
thank you
I believe in comfort meds
me too Maxine!
Sad for you all, but understand what you are saying. I believe we are all one! There is a life after death. 💞💞💞💞

We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

Sounds a bit like an Amphetamine ... The elders probably take it to give them that edge to the day ...
Grow old is the goal. Then let go and come back home to the DNA of infinite universal consciousness . TOTAL encompassing blissful love, peace and acceptance. DMT release will set your spirit free (or with some space juice like Huxley did it)

Ryan ,
Love your content but you sometimes depress me with talk of life expectancy, I am now almost 65 have achieved much and am enjoying the benefits of such, though sadly without my beautiful wife who succumbed to cancer 11 years ago.
This is kinda what I’m saying 😊🙏
An interesting vlog Ryan.. death and taxes eh, only 2 sure things in life.
Quite right David!
