  • Trains on a out of service mainline, The old ex-WP - Union Pacific's Oakland Subdivision, built in the 1900's originally owned and built by the Western Pacific railroad, This route was part of the Feather River Route to allow trains to run from to the San Francos Bay to the Central Valley, This section of the Oakland Sub between Oakland, CA - Fremont, CA is currently a out of service mainline, no through freight trains run on this route. The north and south end of the Oakland Sub is still used by two Union Pacific Locals that serve customers on the line. The middle portion of the line between Melrose and South Hayward is currently abandoned with infrastructure rotting away due to many years of being unused and not regularly maintained.

Excellent video documenting my home town subdivision. I really enjoyed the shots of all the crossings through Hayward and the little-seen action on the Melrose end of the line. Plus the Carpenter side of operations at Shine are interesting.

Thanks for the update. Any word on UP filing paperwork to permanently abandon that section? Even not, UP has the Niles and Coast Subs for all through trains, so, no hurry for repairs.
