    Number 9 continued: I once made a fursuit head for someone who already had that character as a suit ...and then they continued to only post pics of the old suit, I never saw them wearing the one I made and I worried why. So I actually mustered up the nerve to ask them when I saw them at a convention if there was a problem with my work is why they never wear it, and they said they love the one I made so much that they put it on display so as to never wear it out, which TBH left me with mixed feelings as yes that is a huge compliment but on the other hand I really wanted to see them take it on adventures like they did their old suit ;3;

    The imperfections bit, for reals. When I got that three-headed cerberus suit from Elkcraft I got random DMs from people asking me to go through a checklist of "is a seam loose, is there any visible glue, etc" and I'm like.... As a maker, I want to SCREAM "THIS" to the world. For every. Single. Thing. I've had people send me inaccurate ref sheets. I've had people begging me when I was offering sales to do theirs for the same price: example every so often I offer sales on making Dutchies because they're the most common I'm requested to make, and people some to me with wolf sonas wanting me to discount their request for a wolf fursuit... I actually caught someone tracing Neff's character off her own artwork and they were asking ME to make their character into a suit for them, and I played dumb and just sent the art straight to her like "Can you believe this?" I've had people be stupidly overly specific with their suit details and I did my best for what they wanted, but some got so bad to a point of literally hounding and harassing me on the work. I've had people offer me horrid quality art and demand a fursuit in return just randomly. Last but not least for me to share, I never EVER see any of my work ever again once it leaves my hands and it hurts. It hurts I never see these people post about it, and one case, someone resold a suit just weeks after getting it from me. This person harassed the hell out of me for constant updates hourly when I give updates every phase I work on with a suit. I saw a video their mom did of them getting the suit. Then they never wore it ever again, trying to offer it BACK TO ME to get a different character made, and telling me to just resell the suit myself.
    That last one hurt A LOT. All the harassment I got from this person, them instantly reselling the suit, but then trying to trade it to me for another suit and telling me to resell it myself.

    • @keioftheabyss9167
      @keioftheabyss9167 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      I want to add... I'm usually the only one who can model my own work. When showing examples to someone requesting digi-legs, they pretty much went "yeah never mind, I don't want something saggy that'll make me look fat. Thanks." I'm 5" tall and most commissions are people taller or bigger than myself.

    • @qumefox
      @qumefox 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      People expect a reasonable level of quality for their money regardless of what the product is, be it fursuits, cars, guitars, etc. For most, that expectation scales with cost. The more expensive, the higher the expectation that the product isn't going to have issues. Personally i've noticed there's quite a few fursuit makers who price their suits way over what their skill level lets them back up. And people who put best of the best pricing on their suits and deliver crap should very much be picked apart and exposed to the rest of the fandom for the practice.

    In terms of air conditioning. Years ago I talked to a German suiter who had like a dozen ducts of surgical tubing in their suit, ending at different spots with all beginning in one connector at the neck.
    The idea being that you can use an air compressor (or a hand pump, though that didn't work as well) to force part of the warm air out from under the suit.
    It's not quite built in air conditioning, but with modern battery tech, that might be worth revisiting.

    I legit had a customer who sent me a shaded ref sheet and with my inexperience I forgot to ask them for a flatcoloured ref (I asked them later for one and apparently they don't have one?). I ended up getting two smallish details incorrect due to the shading changing the colour of them making them look lighter.. they were fixed of course but it was a little frustrating.

    The only time I would trace a F2U base is if there is no transparent version and I can’t find a better one, but I’ll still credit the original artist. That, to me, is the only way to make it somewhat acceptable (unless they say not to trace it, in which case I just can’t use the base). It’s obviously not perfect, and I really wish that base artists would just post the transparent version without the white background so I could actually use it, but what can I do about it?

    • @mewacky
      @mewacky 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      if you use ibis paint you can import the base into it and select "clear white" so u get a transparent version

    Question- If I used a free to use base to make a oc (cuz I suck a drawing animals) and gave it to a maker to make a fursuit out of it, would they decline and say “No, I can do that because that’s someone else’s art” or would they make me a suit? I’m only wondering this because a found a free base and simply just retraced it (to make the lines bolder) and colored it and now I want a fursuit head of it.

    • @junew8133

      A lot of makers will actually encourage you to use a free to use t-pose base because it's he clearest and easier to reference. Any maker who shames you for using a base is shitty

    Note on number 8: I've had this happen before with parts that I was asked to make, but someone once asked me to make a bodysuit to go with their matching head and offered to send me swatches of the furs they used and everything, but the reference they sent me was WAY too complicated (as per how it goes), being a super small underground maker I offered to remake their ref sheet more fursuit friendly for free (because I'm personable like that, obviously I don't do this anymore and sadly have to punish the whole class because of this one person), they were SUPER cool with that so I spent days remaking this 3 angle ref sheet, they were super communicative the whole time telling me what they liked/didn't like or what parts of the design they wanted to keep etc, and after I sent them the digital file for their FREE ref sheet they discontinued the conversation and I never heard from them again. 🥴 I can only imagine they took my beautiful free ref sheet and commissioned other art with it because I never EVER saw it again. I was so heartbroken over my hard work (at the time) that I took it off my social medias. Super sad deal. I think they just wanted a free ref sheet that wasn't drawn from a base. I had in my bios that ref sheets come with the suits I make because I was trying to promote my artwork as MUCH as possible. I don't care as much now lol, if someone likes my stuff and wants to talk about it that's cool but if not I'm over here doing my own thing for me. Taking commissions proved to be so much of a hassle that I only do gift artwork or stuff for friends and family now. 😭

    1, size 2, weight 3, noise 4, power 5, cold air distribution 6, hot air dissipation 7, unit placement

    • @momentomori1747

      Probably the best you could do is a moderately powerful exhaust fan on the head with hidden vents lower on the body to draw cooler air up through the suit and exhaust warmer air. Or hide something like a papr in the suit's design.
      With either one battery weight would be the limiting factor.

    I think people trace free-to-use bases because they don't have the right tools to just color it in as it is or maybe they wanted to make a change that wasn't on the original one so they traced it.

    Thankyou for sharing, I have been a hardedge model maker for film/TV for many years and decided to make a fur suit as my first foray in to costuming. Australians are familiar with the kangaroo from the movie kangaroo jack as that is what my design is based on. Wondering how people in the community view a fiberglass head base rather than using foam?

    sometimes (and when i say sometimes i mean maybe once bc im a lazy artist just tryna get a pattern down) i trace free to use bases but still always trace the credit and their stuff, usually just bc a lot of them arent transparent or dont translate well or are really low quality so i just trace the lines and tbh its way easier than trying to color on the same layer, and it just looks bad lol like u can clearly see what was added

    Excellent video! Also could do with a "10 things fursuit commissioners should do" sequel video to this, like research faux fur colour availability (spent a year tracking down the exact AliExpress listing for the specific colour of my fullsuit), be involved with the shaping process by providing suggestions on how to achieve out-there ideas (ie: sketching wing mechanisms and such for the fursuit maker so that they have a better idea of what functionality you want), and most importantly: *don't nag.* Fursuits take time to be made!

    Also your suits are both SUPER CUTE!
    ... I do confess though when I was in high school, I WAS going to try and order a suit that went from bipedal digitigrade to quadsuit if I bent over before realizing that would be wicked hard XD Maybe one day I'll try and make something like that myself! But commissioning a maker? Nah, not putting them through that lol
