I Run two Peavey USA Classic 30 Heads in stereo with different cabs and speakers. I use an Ibanez stereo chorus to split my signal. Then I use a BK Butler Tube Driver and MXR analog delay. My guitar is a Strat neck Tele with a Humbucker in the neck. The pots are linear NOT audio with .047 Orange drop cap. This is CLASSIC PEAVEY 60 Watts that will compete in tone and volume with ANYTHING. Rythmn & Lead. Any style, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Country and Fusion.
This amp was my first amp. Managed to pick one up for 200 USD and served my well for a very long time and had features that my much more expensive amps I own today still lack. When the speaker finally died, a good celestion upgrade did wonders. Mine was an early 90s amp, and I miss it dearly. What an amazing work horse.
Great demo, shows off how it does everything very well. I rotate gear, even gear I swear will be part of my ‘permanent collection.’ I’ve had this amp for 14 years. Still kicks ass
That looks just like my black Peavey classic 30 amp. Same year too. I found mine online at GC. It has a blue marvel speaker. It sounds good, I like it.
Love mine. Only use it as a pedal platform on the clean channel. Definitely heavy on the mids but switching out the speaker to a Celestion G12 tames that quite a bit. Also I switched out preamp tube v3 to a 5157 and makes it break up sooner and smoother. It’s not as pretty sounding as a Deluxe Reverb, specially the reverb but in a band context I would argue it sounds more defined, cuts and has way more headroom of course. Got mine in a pawn shop for 250 bucks.
Thanks for doing a video of the Classic 30. I’ve used them since the 80s and love them. My favorite sound is the clean channel with the boost engaged. I simply switch channels for more gain. Very easy to get a good sound. All around dependable, great sounding work-horse amp for studio and stage. Great playing! 🤠👍
Just ordered an straight top tweed. Older one in mint condition. Fantastic review. Really helped me on this one. I had a Delta Blues as well but wasn’t happy. These Classic 30’s are some of the best tone amps Peavey ever built. I got it because Peavey has closed up and headed to China. I believe these will eventually go way up in value too.
the classic 30 is one of the funnist amps iv ever played and thats from one who has many high end amps....didnt like the drive channel ...only use the clean channel with boost ON and volume between 1-2:00.....glorious just awsome....extremely musical...just use your volume control on your guitar
I didn't like the drive channel too, but when I swapped Blue Marver to Cannabis Rex, it started to shine. Need to point out, that some of the clean sweetness went away too; it became a bit cold and airy.
I have one from 1995 that I bought in ‘96. My fav amp amongst all my tube amps. C30 has an amazing self compression so you do not need to use a comp pedal most of the time. Great video. Cheers from Istanbul.
Shane thanks for putting up some of the best demo videos on You Tube. One channel claims to be the King of Tone but he only knows one tone and that is wide open on everything but I appreciate you putting all products thru the full range
Man, what a great amp! Peavey still makes some of the best for the money. Sound great, super durable...and the loudest LOL! I still have a SS Backstage Plus 35w that I bought brand new in the ‘80s that will run you out of the place! It’s a little tank!
So I'm just gonna go ahead and say it..... You sound better with that beast than with any of the Bandits or Transtube variants you demonstrated. Considering the small extra cost over the Bandits in the used market these days (at least in Canada), they're a no-brainer choice.
What pleasant guitar lovers universe you create with your videos. It is so easy to get frustrated and disillusioned when trying to achieve that perfect sound. Thank you for being a fellow traveler on this wonderful journey! Kudos from America's great Northwest!
My first ever valve amp, tweed 1990s model. Had the matching 1x12 extension. Chopped spkrs for British made Celestion V30s. No drive pedals, bit of chorus/delay in loop, the business! Hugged it for years with a strat plus, then a homebrew Warmoth Tele. Sold it to my bandmate. If he's still got it I should buy it back! Sounding great Shane.
I just sold my Bandit 112 for 119 euros...... i still have my Peavey Classic 30 Tweed and i wont never ever sell any peavey amp again.... no way! are the best...
I own both. The Blues Jr has a better clean tone imo and it adapts to effects pedals really well. The C30 has a much better dirty channel and if you play a les paul through it it's awesome. Just depends on what you want to hear.
"What I really like about this amp is how versatile it is and how it manages to cram in 30 watts in such a small box."...That's why I have 3 of the Jack Daniels amplifiers...for the same reason.......update from 9 months after this post, down to just 2 JD amps....gave one to my son for his birthday.....can't get him off it......who would want to...right?
Great review! I just picked up a Classic 30 - traded a Blackstar HT Club 40 for it. No regrets - none. The Classic 30 has all I need. I played a Classic 50/410 for years - also ! I love the Classic series amps.
This is the first tube amp that I ever owned. I love it and I still have it. Makes me a little sad that they aren’t made in the USA anymore but here in the US, you can grab one used for like 300 to 400. Cheers!
I bought an original tweed in 1995, sold it later on, and bought another in black tweed. It's a workhorse and has a lot of versatility and range. Recently bought a Princeton Reverb reissue to get an alt-country kind of tone, which I couldn't quite get out to the Classic 30, but the Classic 30 is versatile in that it pretty much runs the gamut of rock and blues with a rich tone. The modifications I made on mine were having the reverb tank replaced, and swapping out the SovTek tubes for Mesa/Boogies; I've played JJs before, too. The tube swap was more wanting a slight change in tone over necessity; the SovTeks sound great, too. The reverb tank modification was because I was getting a strange feedback/overtone that wouldn't let up once I reached a particular threshold. In hindsight, it could have been a tube. I hear from people playing other amps that they never have had to replace tubes, but I've replaced tubes a handful of times in the past 20 years on the Classic 30, which I don't think is unreasonable.
Mine is covered in fake tweed. It dates from the early 90's. I love it. I rarely use the boost switch. Too bad it is not accessible via the footswitch. It sounds good but what a mess to maintain!
Yeah I have no idea why they use fake tweed on their amps. My old delta blues (both of them) had that laminated crap on it. My friend Ric used to tease me about it! 😂
This is not a bad price. Beware of tube sockets solder joints. Especially if the amp has worked a lot. The tubes are mounted upside down and as the heat goes up it stresses the tube sockets solder joints. 4 EL84 can become very very hot. Peavey's choice to have assembled this amp with 3 U-shaped printed circuit boards makes it very difficult to repair or expensive if you call a professional. Sorry for my english. :)
hlron your English is better than mine and I was born in USA. Thank you for your reply. This amp hasn’t been used very much as the owner is terminally ill. I’ll post a pic after I get it home. Have a great day.
I also have a Classic 30 US from the 90's and couldn't be without it, certainly the best amp available out there within this price range. Just a mod really necessary to my ears, swap the Blue Marvel speaker which sounds pretty cheap and dull. Personnaly i chose the WGS G12c/S to tame the highs which are pretty loud and arsh on the stock amp. Really came alive after this and wouldn't change anything else on it ! :)
I swapped out the tube for a 12ax7, so I can get some clean jazz/blues tones at bedroom levels. Works very well. I use pedals for the gain/distortion anyway.
TheJofrica I don't understand, doesn't PC30 come with 12ax7 (just as Shane mentioned in this video)? I am interested in bringing this amp to room volume too, so more details on the mod will be much appreciated. So which tube you replaced with what and what effect did it have? Did it bring down just the clean volume, or drive channel volume as well?
I bought a C30 when they first came out, and still use it! (Had the C50 combo's and head). The clean channel is great with pedals. Have also gotten a great overdrive sound from it for sessions. Changed the speaker out to a Mojotone BV-30H, which sounds great.
I HAVE TWO PEAVY CLASSIC 30'S, ONE IN REGULAR TWEED, ONE IN BLACK TWEED,LOVE THEM. ALSO A PEAVY CLASSIC 50 (BLACK). GREAT AMPS AT A GOOD VALUE. NO REGRETS !!
This is a very versatile amp. I bought mine and it was my first “real” amp in like 1997 and it’s been great all these years. I’ve shown up to metal gigs with it and more than held my own with the right pedals. Love this amp. Cool demo.
Well, got tubes; old tubes, new tubes... fender ampeg crate sano dano airline harmony silvertone vox and my peaveys... the classic 30 never fails to deliver more sound and shapes that continues to impress, I love USA Peaveys...
I found the classic 30 to cover a lot of ground using only the clean channel with the boost on.....from clean to classic rock.....as long as you are running the volume between 2 and 3 oclock,,,,and get that speaker shooting right at you as well...... pretty smokin....the charector of the amp is just so much better at volume....no need for the dirty channel after playing the clean, boosted at volume
Awesome intro jam there Shane and great tone out of that PeaVey!! P.S. Cool little Boston Red Sox baseball plush guy sitting behind you on one of your amps!!
I owned a Classic 30 for a couple years and sold it simply because I needed more crystal cleans (traded it for a Traynor YCV40WR). That being said, the Classic 30 was KILLER for blues and rock!! Amazing pedal platform on the clean channel, and broke up very easily, especially with humbuckers and a boost! Awesome amps.
Thanks for video Shane on the classic 30 m'y favorite amp 1 have own 2 peavey classic 30, 3 classic 20, and classic 20 mini head those are great amp i have to sold them need to survive!
Sounds better than mine ever did stock. I've swapped the tubes for 12ay7 and 12au7s, replaced the caps in the tone stack and swapped the speaker for an eminence cannabis rex. Sounds much fuller now
I would like to improvise on that backing track too. please share it Shane. thanx . as for the amp, I have the c30 tweed that was made in usa.I had to add a 120mm fan on the backside in order to keep it cool . I l also swaped the speaker for a greenback . it sounds so good that has tamed down my g.a.s for amps for the last 2 years. cheers
These are probably my favorite amp ever made. I know that they aren't the best ever, but consider price reliability and sound. It's like having a good fender but with better drive sounds
I have a special run US model with a white chassis and a red faux leather covering. I replaced the stick speaker with a Warehouse Reaper 55 which is a bass cone large magnet greenback clone. The amp sounds amazing.
To my ear, the clean tones are very Fendery. But the overdriven tones are MUCH BETTER than the overdriven tones from any of the Hot Rod series Fenders (yuck). Sweet amp.
I had a late 90’s model. I paired it with a G&L Legacy and a 90’s B-bender tele. Amazing sound!!! Sadly, we all make mistakes and I sold all of the above.
I own this and the value for the $$ played is unmatched. I know it's not your style but you can get some serious crunch for the late 70's early 80's metal and hard rock. Very versatile amp and pedals through the effects loop work great
The tone & chops on that intro may be the best I've ever heard you sound & play. I could listen to that all day.
I agree, that was a sweet jam
This is how you do a review. Play the thing first, talk second.
Peavy amps are the best kept secret in guitar the guitar industry. On the used market, they're such an incredible bargain.
I hope so, I'm looking to pick up a used 30 this weekend! :-)
Prices on Reverb seem to be spiking.
Hi. I m searching for an american sound. Is this right?
@@KaosII1968 yup. People (not all) on Reverb seem to have lost touch with reality
@@lucamontanarilughi530 definitely
Very underated amp. Infact Peavey is an underated brand. It's quality and good value too
that intro solo is sweet and it really captured the amp. Thanks
I Run two Peavey USA Classic 30 Heads in stereo with different cabs and speakers.
I use an Ibanez stereo chorus to split my signal.
Then I use a BK Butler Tube Driver and MXR analog delay.
My guitar is a Strat neck Tele with a Humbucker in the neck.

one of the best tones of your TH-cam channel... great!
wow this amp is probably the best sounding amp ive heard on your channel so far, great playing
I bought a Classic 30 back in ‘96 & it’s still my favourite amp of all time. Tip: pair it with a closed back 4x12 (you’ll never be the same!).
Peavey Classic sounds great and is a real value.
Man, that opening groove hit the spot! Great review as always.
That looks just like my black Peavey classic 30 amp. Same year too. I found mine online at GC. It has a blue marvel speaker. It sounds good, I like it.
Well I'm floored, this maybe the amp I've been looking for
baron von chickenpants I looked a good long while and finally got a black Tweed with Celestion Vintage 30. It was the "sweet spot" for me
Love mine. Only use it as a pedal platform on the clean channel. Definitely heavy on the mids but switching out the speaker to a Celestion G12 tames that quite a bit. I recently picked up a very clean Classic 20 in tweed. Wonderful little amp!
I have 2 C 20’s! Love ‘em!
@@ProbableCauseBluesBand. Same!! And a 30. Use them as a W/D/W rig.

tasty licks. I've had two Classic 30s and I still own a class 20. Love the tones. You showed them well.
Sweeeeeeeeet!!!! Loved that intro jam!!!
By the way, I would love to see a shootout between PC30 and new Blues Junior IV ;).

Yes, definitely.

I was fortunate to snag one of these little gems a few years ago - my Strat sings through it!
Alfred,i'm glad to see you're alive and well! What,me Worry?
Man, what a great amp! Peavey still makes some of the best for the money. Sound great, super durable...and the loudest LOL! I still have a SS Backstage Plus 35w that I bought brand new in the ‘80s that will run you out of the place! It’s a little tank!

Tone in opening Jam sounds fantastic! Nice job Shane
the fender bassbreaker and the peavey classic are my go-to amps. they take overdrive pedals beautifully
Which is your favorite?
I just bought one of these, tweed but still. I absolutely love it. Cannot recommend highly enough.
Can’t decide between the C30 and a Blues Jr. This was a great video thanks.
having C30. want to buy Blues Jr. someday to use them both in stereo rig. If I could get BJr first, I'd take it, but I found C30 really cheap, so…
Both good. I have one of each.
I own both. The Blues Jr has a better clean tone imo and it adapts to effects pedals really well. The C30 has a much better dirty channel and if you play a les paul through it it's awesome. Just depends on what you want to hear.
I went with a Laney Cub 12r it’s got a completely different sound. More Marshall than Fender.
That intro though 👍🏽👌🏽, cheers from San Jose, CA

I had that same tweed tolex on my 90s era Classic 50. I peeled it all off and stained the wood cabinet. Now it looks as great as it sounds!

Nope. Muddy, less definition overall. The Tele wins here imo !
Great demonstration of this amp.
I've got a classic 30 love the amp ! I did put in a WGS et65 speaker in It great demo Shane

Buy this amp (USA one). You can't go wrong.
How does this compare to Blues Jr.
USA version at my local GC for 299.00....im going back and getting it manana:)….
Marc Cunningham How u like it so far? Any downside?
I bought a C30 when they first came out, and still use it! (Had the C50 combo's and head). The clean channel is great with pedals. Have also gotten a great overdrive sound from it for sessions. Changed the speaker out to a Mojotone BV-30H, which sounds great.

Sounds good + great playing Shane. The black tweed looks so cool on this amp.
This is a very versatile amp. I bought mine and it was my first “real” amp in like 1997 and it’s been great all these years. I’ve shown up to metal gigs with it and more than held my own with the right pedals. Love this amp. Cool demo.
You always sound so amazing. I picked one of these up and am working at it. Wow you sound beautiful!
Fantastic Poster! Ciao dall'Italia
you and the amp, both sound great!
More proof that any good or better amp will sound GREAT in the hands of a skilled player .
Loved the. killer intro.Very nice work!!!
Well, got tubes; old tubes, new tubes... fender ampeg crate sano dano airline harmony silvertone vox and my peaveys... the classic 30 never fails to deliver more sound and shapes that continues to impress, I love USA Peaveys...
Love the tone, Shane!
Do not own one but have used one as backline and was totally satisfied.
I like the look of the amp, sounded great too! great vid 👍🎸🎸
The often overlooked middle ground in a world of Fender and Marshall.
Love peavey classic amps!
Just picked one up,brilliant amp. Surprised you didn’t show off the spring reverb, it’s remarkable.
Sounds great buddy you don't find them like that every day that sound that good it has it all.
Nice review, short and sweet.
Great tones great playing.
When I started playing this you had 111 likes and 1,111 views.... sounds darn good, Shane!
Awesome intro jam there Shane and great tone out of that PeaVey!! P.S. Cool little Boston Red Sox baseball plush guy sitting behind you on one of your amps!!

Amazing pedal platform on the clean channel, and broke up very easily, especially with humbuckers and a boost! Awesome amps.
I agree I had 2 delta blues didn't like the boost button in. But on my classic 30 I like it!
Has a great mix with pedals. Loves pedals. Very clean even up loud. Very under rated amp.
I sold mine years ago and just bought another one. It was the one amp thati regretted selling
Amo meu Peavey ac 30 SURPREENDENTE!...

Thanks for the vid Shane! Put a Blues Driver (gain around 2:00) in front of the clean/no boost channel an rock all night!!
Humbuckers with that recipe too. That’s my fave on that amp.
Awesome intro playing. Perfect tone. Also where did you find that backing track for the intro?
I record them myself man 👍

Wow, great tone with that Tele ! Nice
Sounds so good
I can remember mid -late 70's the peavey was a GIANT w/ many players, local and or professional, what happened/why did they fall out of favor?
They stopped endorsing bands and stopped really pushing their brand after they went bankrupt
I had a late 90’s model. I paired it with a G&L Legacy and a 90’s B-bender tele. Amazing sound!!! Sadly, we all make mistakes and I sold all of the above.
Bought a 1993 Classic 50 2x12 for £150 last month. I'm in love! Now I'm looking for a Laney/Hiwatt to complement the Peavey.
Are Hiwatt and Laney the same amps?
I own two of them......blonde tweeds with matching extension cabs.......need I say more? Great amps....very versatile and all the balls ya need!!!
Ultra smooth I like it in black.
I own this and the value for the $$ played is unmatched. I know it's not your style but you can get some serious crunch for the late 70's early 80's metal and hard rock. Very versatile amp and pedals through the effects loop work great
