      People aren't always aware of their tongue though? I never knew that.

    I had 8 ohm headphones that I cant remember the brand of back in the day.
    Music from an ipod could get so loud people thought it was a boombox.

    I'd guess these are from the mid 70's from the box art and lack of a MSRP/UPC code on the box

      @ngwoo 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +26

      This video is how I ended up learning that the first UPC code to ever be scanned at a retail checkout wasn't until 1974

    Yup, that putting something back in the box is relatable; since it happened to me with the Hungry, Hungry Hippos game. It is so easy to take out of the box and play with it (as a child), but getting it back in the box as an adult is exactly getting these stereo headphone back in the box. It was so lumpy that we needed to tape up the bottom portion of the box (that thing saw better days) and had to tie it up with twine for good measure. Game was donated.

    These are the same headphones that half of my Texan elementary (k-5) had. The oldest building was made in the early 70's & the "newest" had been built in the late 80's

    I must apologize. I watched all the after shows on that archive channel because I thought it was yours. As penance I'm watching them all over again here. Pity me.😢

    They're major budget. In the OG south wales we had a budget nugget store called "Hyper value". They sold an equivalent. Great for mega drive gameplay. Took 3 pairs back before I got one that actually worked!

    Barcodes didn't take off until the 80s. Switching over to barcodes means retailers had to switch out a mechanical cash register with an electronic one.

    Pretty much everyone I've talked to says that this chassis of headphones has been used since forever in schools in America. They are still using them in 2020 😂

    Ugh. I go to school out in podunk nowhere America at a school built in the 70’s, and we’ve had a very, very similar disgusting pair of headphones for every state test. Super uncomfortable and thin sound just like you said.

    My dad has an original set of those Koss headphones still, we've had them fixed once, but the balance is broken again, sadly. They sound great, regardless.

    I’m gonna guess that these headphones are from either the late 60s or the early 70s. The first product to hit the market with a barcode on the packaging was Wrigley’s bubblegum in 1974.

    On the other hand, the clips to assemble them are metal. Nowadays they would be the cheapest plastic and fall apart just by looking at them.

    every school I've been to had either these exact headphones or very similar ones. The cheap plastic grates inside pinch and dig into your ears. We had to wear these for hours at a time. It was not fun.

    With a digital controlled volume slider you wouldnt hear anything at the lowest volume since that simple shuts off the amp

    the 8 ohms doesn't mean the headphones are sensitive it has to do with how difficult they are to drive. It can have to do with how loud they go at specific volume levels but that depends on the amplifier. Lower ohm rating does not inherently mean more sensitive.

    • @Morbpious
      @Morbpious 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cool but headphones I've owned that have the same ohm, had pretty much the same sensitivity as well. I don't really get the need for specific distinction.

    • @trevor245
      @trevor245 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Morbpious Because that's definitely not the rule, more of an exception. Many planars are in the 16-32 ohm range and yet have very low sensitivity and are notoriously hard to drive. Headphone ranges like the dt770 have pretty similar sensitivity across the board even with different ohm ratings.

    • @maebeans
      @maebeans 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@trevor245 to add to this, as someone who designs amplifiers, you can run into impedance problems with lower loads due to how the loads are coupled to the amplifier creating a high pass filter, so it's quite possible the thinness of these is in part due to that. as you said, hard to drive.
