I am a Christian of the Church of Uganda and a former member of the Chancery of the Province of the Church of Uganda. I must declare interest here before my comment that I am a descendant of Bakiga immigrants who had deep roots in the historical Kigezi Christian Revival Movement. As I know this compilation of hymns is adopted from a ZABURI HYMNS compilation which was originally compiled as a RUNYANKOLE RUKIGA Prayer/Hymn Book. The Hymns were either adopted and translated from the Ancient and Modern English Hymns or composed as indigenous RUNYANKOLE RUKIGA Hymns. This is because of the close link of these two Afro Bantu dialects that have grown alongside over centuries to the extent that they are recognized as one dialect.. It's like we also have RUNYORO RUTOORO Dialect. I am therefore questioning the compller's right in dubbing this collection an "EXCLUSIVELY RUNYANKOLE HYMNS" collection, which in my view not only infringes on the Church's compilation as it was, but also has the unfortunate effect of marginalization of the RUKIGA language in this timeless work where, I daresay, the BanyaKigezi had a greater contribution!! Have these very close language dialects now so metamorphosed to the extent that they are now so separate languages?? I believe instead the reverse is true; the two have merge and fused into each other without either losing it's historical nomenclature, hence the union RUNYANKOLE RUKIGA language. Most, if not, all these hymns have been reproduced in their original melodies, save for a few deviations, also uncalled for, and I can sing along to practically each of these afro melodies. My take is that these hymns remain RUNYANKOLE RUKIGA Hymns and to refer to them as either EXCLUSIVELY RUNYANKOLE, or EXCLUSIVELY RUKIGA Hymns is very diversionary and a vulgarization of history. It's a marginalization of either contributory to the historical compositions of these timeless works. Obviously there are also legal issues that emerge from this scenario that must concern is.. I call upon all the concerned parties, especially the leadership of the Province of the church of Uganda, the compilers, Page Managers and UTube to correct this misnomer and label these compilations properly as RUNYANKOLE RUKIGA HYMNS. It doesn't matter where the choirs or individual artists who have remixed the hymns are based, be it Ankole, Kigezi, Kampala or diaspora. No It's about what has been compiled. For instance, can someone redo these hymns and dub them "LINGALA HYMNS" and Banyankole, and BanyaKigezi, or even the Church of Uganda, just look on??🙄🙄🤷 My view.
