My mom got a degree in criminal justice..... she’s a cashier for Cosco
Well maybe she didnt use it right lol. I majored in criminal justice, I got into police academy, become a police officer, now I'm going to be promoted to homicide detective. You need to know how to use your degree.
My mom has a masters degree in MBA finance but works in Walmart because she had to take care of me and my brother and if she optains a career in MBA is has to travel leaving me and my brother alone at home because even my dad has to travel. See even family issue can be a problem in carrier
@@ivannav9175 how long were you a police officer for? Cuz my goal is also to become a homicide detective in the future
😆😆😆😆😆
Degrees can be useless but knowledge never ceases to be useful. Period.
Learn And Create AYE
Learn And Create doesn't help that I'm stressing out on a choir audition that I have coming up. I haven't sightread since 8th grade and that was with violin, I would not have touched chorus until my Junior year of high school, I'm a sophomore right now, so on top of that, I have never sightread while singing. And yes, I'm asking all my friends that are in chorus right now for some advice including my mom, my brother and my sister, since they are/have been in chorus before. The best advice I've got was to not stress out and practice which would be fine if I knew what I was doing.
I agree
My English degree self is screaming at that restaurant scene.
same 😂
my soul died at that.... rip my education
WHY would you take English degree....just why
I dunno. Worked out pretty well when I got admitted into a graduate program for creative writing this year.
YOLO YOLO Because they can 😎 Lol but we should respect their decision, it's not ours to make anyhow xD
People can take away everything from you, but not your education... unless someone smacks your head so hard with a pipe and you get amnesia, in that case not only did they take your education, they took your memories and personality.
dante3543 amnesia is when you forget what happens presently, but not before you got amnesia. You might be thinking of Alzheimer’s. IM 11 HOW DO I KNOW THIS.
@@averiemichelle6090 it's really not alzehimers being hit over the head lmao. That's a disease. It would be amnesia.

My mom also got a psychology degree.
She's a real estate agent.🤦🏾
Yeah psychology is useless if it's not a masters
Well I still think that can be put to good use though since you probably understand people more. That helps with closing deals.
@@ivannav9175 False. UX designer jobs prefer a psych degree and propriety trading companies love psych graduates. You're the type of person who probably thinks you can only be a Psychologist studying psych and need a masters.... Hahahahaha typical average mindset.
Do better research.

Thats still a good job.
Am I extra funny because of my psychology degree? Please say yes and make me feel better!!!! 😂 #SuperSixty starts now bbs!

Oh man, I’m literally the waitress in the video except I’m working at a friggin super market after getting a degree in Literature & Creative Writing 🙃👌🏽
Lubii Lubna that part was dam hilarious, same here doing English Literature 😂😂😂
A moment of silence for all the people who majored in creative writing/other arts😔🙏 I so want to major in creative writing, but I know that there's no guarantee of a job with that, and you don't even need a degree to be a published author anyway. *sigh*
Gail Johnson there are lot of jobs you just need to get the right one so u enjoy doing .
aabidfaiyaz I guess you're right. I'm majoring in English, mostly because I there are more jobs available in my town for that degree than other things I was interested in. It's still something I like doing, maybe not my number 1 dream, but I still think I can pursue kind of a lower tier passion and still try to get published (which is like the ultimate dream). I think that's something that could be useful for someone going into college to remember - one option might be for you to study in a field you like, but not have to feel pressured to find your life's ultimate passion in school or at work. You can have other hobbies and goals outside your professional life.
I honestly just did it because I enjoyed it. I feel like if you're doing a degree you might as well do something that you'd luxuriate in 🤷🏽♀️ No point spending all that cash if nothing will come out of it in the end unless you know exactly what you wanna get into.
I'm just useless in general

Naomi Talag a teacher makes like 1/4 of the money the other 2 make... Y is that an option?
I'm African and these are my only options too 💀 😂
Abid Ahmad i respect that
when you grow in a messed up poor family, you know the value of getting education because before getting your degree you really have almost null chances starting any business or developing a talent due to the lack of resources that can support you.
Im in middle school and already know i need to work my tail of bc i can't go to college otherwise, unless student loans, but i dont want years of dept
Kinda wish that she made a disclaimer at the end. I know this is for comedy, but I can just imagine myself as a 13-year-old and thinking, oh she's right! There's no point in education! Why should i try? And personally, majority of the adults I know who graduated with a degree are currently using their degree, in some way shape or form that's beneficial to their career. I don't know...
M L exactly... I have a medical degree n it is my bread and butter
Yeah, I agree. Doctors use theirs all the time. So do teachers, do do lawyers.
I saw it not like "Degrees are useless" but I saw it like "if you want to get a degree then choose a major you actually like." Some parents force a job onto a child but sometimes the child wants to do something else with their life. Anyways that's just my view.
One of the main issues is that people are getting degrees that there is no demand for employees. And schools don't do a good job educating people on this. Instead, they say 'oh, you can do anything you put your mind to etc" Well, actually graduating from college with straight A+ in a degree that you enjoy/ is your passion but near impossible to find a job in, is setting up people to fail. Solution: Just do a double major/ degree. kill two birds with one stone. Major in you pipe-dream low-employment-rate career and also a sure-thing career.
M L it’s nice to see ppl like you really get the thought of it at first place, still my only suggestion is do what you love and go to a place you feel may brighten your career.
Because of your psychology degree, yo.
Love that line😂❤️

100% right, I'm working in Ikea with an engineering degree
I love your videos Tariq, you are so funny!!
This video was intended to be funny. But it does show a different story from how we were raised. We have it drilled in our heads that a college degree is the end all be all for success. It isn't the only way, just one of them. If what you are genuinely passionate requires a degree then by all means do it, but if it doesn't, dont waste your money. Don't go just because it is what society expects of you. A traditional "job" and college isn't for everyone, but never stop educating yourself.
XD Atleast your college degree helped you to make this video. Without that, there'd be one less video xDD

YOLO YOLO, please let your last comment be a joke. I can handle math perfectly.
Education is more than just a degree. Translating it twenty times is not for you to demonstrate that you know how to translate it twenty times. In school, kids learn morality, good work ethic, and how to socialize/connect to other human beings their age. Sure, you might never need to remember how to factorize a quadratic, but the logical skills you learned from that, you will need. Please don't look at this video (that was created for comedy purposes) and assume that majority of your education will be useless.
apple and croissant I feel like YOLO YOLO was being quite sexist and, you go girl!
"so, it's lit..?" that pun was amazing lol!!
Psssh, I'm majoring in psychology and I don't think it's useless. When picking a degree, a person has to do a lot of research and make sure they are willing to work and make sacrifices for it. I know a psychology degree will be tough, long, and hard to get employed as u need much education and experience, but willing to put in the effort. And it's an area I'm passionate about.
By itself, that is simply a BA in psychology, most likely, yeah, is useless. That's why again u need to do research and really think about what you want to do. I know I am def going to go for a Masters or PhD in Psych

wakeupand smellthecoffee So freaking true.
I think it’s almost the same for every country :/
Well, the truth is, that when Lily's parents were young, the degree meant A LOT,- and in many countries: capitalistic, democratic, communistic,- et cetera. Most of the Universities' graduates could get a good job easier and earn more money. But then labor market structure gradually has changed. And now there are more graduates than high-qualified jobs, so yes,- many graduates have to take job as waiters in order just not to be jobless. Furthermore, lots of jobs disappearing, good professionals with high degrees and many years of work experience are getting laid off and can't find a new job however hard they try. And that's why sensible countries, like Finland, start introducing a new system of basic income.
wow
Her name is Lilly

Johna Draws same here 😂😭
The fact that this is either a fear or a relatable thing for most people is saying something.
I am an Engineer and Psychology is NOT a useless profession, specially in today's world. More and more, people don't control their thoughts, their emotions and we see more erratic behaviors then ever before. People are being led by their emotions, instead of being lead by their intellect. People are letting the "Auto-Pilot" mode run their lives and this is when great psychologists come into play. One day as you grow older, you will understand the great tool that you have at your disposal... and you will value the knowledge in psychology that you have. You just need to learn how to apply those principles to change the lives of other people.
K J that’s because you’re paired with engineering if you’re just a psychology major alone... chances of finding a job is slim. Unless you have a minor or another major like communications or economics I’m pretty sure you’ll do fine
Pairing psych with like IE or something is totally marketable, but alone... ehhhhh
You are talking about psychologist. Bachelor of psychology alone doesn't make you a psychologist.
Thank you. Our generation needs helps psychologically

This makes me feel less bad about dropping out of school
School is still important
Right now a trade is more valuable. So many ppl have degrees that employeers are treating ppl with degrees like fast food workers.
Trust me. The U.S. is saying that they're isn't enough trade workers right now because everyone has decided to go to college. Before there were too many trade workers, now there are too many degree holders. You saved your self time. Undergrade degrees are becoming useless right now.
on everything
Obviously, depending on the type of degree you choose to take, it might be easier or harder to get a job related to your field in the future. It's important to be aware of that before pursuing your degree.
Ciara Its all about what the degree is for. You're more likely to get a job with a degree in medicine than a degree in psychology. I think that's what they're saying.
Exactly like if you don't know for sure what you want your career to be, then don't go for a degree that is super specific, but instead go for something more general because you might end up wasting alot of money and time on something like nursing and them find out that you want to do something in engineering.
it depends. if you're in a liberal arts major like psychology, english or history, it would be better to not pay that tuition for a dead end major. the only majors worth studying are engineering and medical specialists, unless ur at an ivy league, where a law degree, business degree or science/math degree will be of use.
I'm studying art and pay thousands of euros just so People can ask me to draw them fro free :|

That’s so true, in our society we are defined by a piece of paper that is supposed to “measure” our knowledge when in reality a lot of people make it without a degree if they work hard enough
POWER PRANKSTERS We live in a society
we are not defined by a piece of paper
we’re not ‘defined by it’ wtf. that’s how our knowledge is tested.
If they have a rich family, then yeah
No matter how hard you work, you will never be a doctor without a degree. School is for some, and isn’t for others. Don’t judge those who do.
I've loved and adored every single video of Lilly's, but I have to say something about this one. Everything is brilliant about it except for the message it sends, especially for those young enough to have their values and belief system still growing and unset.
Agreeing with what several comments above have stated, I believe the intention of this video was that a mere degree does not get you through life just like that, and that it is not ENOUGH. However, I find it super easy to interpret this message wrong, and instead think what she's saying is "degrees mean nothing, and is absolutely useless". Of course, it is easy to say so if you unfortunately have found yourself receiving a degree from a field of study that you hate, or just far away from your ideal career's direction. I know so many people that suffer from this situation. But a lot of those people actually learned a valuable life lesson since, and managed to consider and compare thoroughly before heading into the field they want.
To me, someone who had to drop out of college and support myself, in another country where even the language is not the same, I find all of the education I've received, that is a high school diploma and 1 year in college, tremendously useful, and in many occasions all I had to rely on. For instance, if I hadn't worked the hardest in my class and really mastered at the English language, I don't think I'd be able to find any work at all. If I didn't have any maths knowledge, how could I possibly work as a cashier and learn to manage and record daily sales. And to Lilly's example, if I didn't learn at least something about psychology out of personal interest, I believe I'd have half as many friends as today, and quite a few opportunities would be turned down just because I don't know how to interact with people more efficiently and appropriately. To this point, I personally believe psychology might just be one of the most useful fields of knowledge in life.
Does degree equal education? Not necessarily. I've grown up with enough peers that absolutely resented certain subjects yet still managed to achieve a degree just like everyone else. But the process of going to school, attending and paying attention in classes, passing examines, and finally do whatever it is requires to receive that piece of paper called a "degree", is a collective and proven effective process of learning and enhancing newly acquired knowledges. From an anthropological point of view, if degrees are truly "useless", then why is it that human society hasn't eliminated it through history? In contrast, the invention of school system marked quite a leap forward among all civilizations. We get our youngsters in one centralized location, have educated and experienced intellects teach them useful things, isn't that so much more efficient than any other way? Degrees are just one socially accepted standard serving as evidence of education. Just like why we have to have IDs, so that other people and officials have a quick enough way of knowing for sure you are who you say you are.
Cannot believe how long of a comment I've written. I admit that I probably am what American kids call a "geek" or "nerd", in the sense that I truly love learning. Although I haven't been in school for a few years now, I've never stopped learning through different media and platforms. This is where I find my soul rests, to go to sleep every night knowing that I've come to know just a bit more about this world, and that I've received a bit more education. And when I can feasibly afford it, I will return to school and receive that degree so many fortunate ones loathe.
Best wishes to all, and to the younger generation still in high school and below, please please please don't stop learning. Take a deep look within yourself and ask what do you want to be growing up? Seriously ask that, and after getting that answer, work so so so hard in your own field. Trust me, it'll be the best thing you ever do. And getting a degree will generally making being employed so much easier, at least in the beginning stage of your career.
*I don't know how this makes me sad*
Marina Dalvano me too
This make me more and more depressed
me too 😞 and I have no talent
Same here
maybe because you're in school and it's almost exams so you would have cried anyway :)
There are people who completely use their degree , while most others study something unrelated to their interests. Educate children to understand what they want in life , so that they can study something related to that.
My friend’s grade one time was so much lower than her usual grades, that the teacher asked about her personal life. Please pray for her and her Indian parents.
My mom has a degree in accounting and she actually uses it
She is an accountant
I am surprised that she actually used her degree
I mean each one has its talents. I, personally believe professionals with a degree are kinda unappreciated and "abused/mistreated" to say it like that, by the society where a job as a merchant or influencer in the networks is more lucrative and "striking" (for ex my family, in which there are honored doctors, professors and professionals that aren't paid as others and are "exploited" like many) . Of course there are corrupt "professionals" who buy their position and "move on" very fast (as she showed in the "expectative", yeah that happens a lot). However, there are also people who love what they do, are proud of their degree and are passionate about their profession and exert it as well. A diploma or a degree is not useful for who doesn't want it, it is that simple.
SugarCrush 7354 I’m proud of my first degree, and proud to be pursuing my second one now. I understand not everyone is meant to be a scholar, but we should appreciate them.
My BA is in History and my MA is in English, and though people do like to make a lot of fun and say "what use are those", I think they're both really useful. I work in Finance lol. But it's useful because I have to research a lot of rules and regulations related to grants and procurement policies, and I also have to be able to communicate well. (I'm also responsible for proofing and editing of departmental communications and sometimes journal articles before they're submitted...not a finance thing but I'm really more of a catch-all since I do event planning too haha). My point being that both of my degrees taught me skills that are applicable to a lot of different jobs (research, communication, critical thinking, etc etc). I'm looking for jobs in my field and using my degrees in my freelance work, but even though it's not related to my current job, I do think my education helped me 1) get my job and 2) perform a lot better at my job. So I know a lot of current college students are worried their degrees won't mean anything. It's not so much the degree, it's the actual education you received and the skills you learned (or should have learned!) along the way. I know it's not a good market out there and it's still hard to get a job, but I just want to say to still have hope because you may end up using your degree in a way you didn't expect!!
Kinda true darling.
i think the problem is just that you studied something you didnt have interest in so you lost your motivation for a phd (: . You were more into creative stuff like youtube comedy videos. so guys if you study then 1. study what you LIKE and have INTEREST in. 2. if you have those both things , you will be successfull cause you just love the thing you do and you are trying to get better at it. So its really important to decide if you have interest in studying at all..... ofc there are people who are more creative than a piece of paper. so if you decide for your career .. take your time and set goals. dont waste your time studying psychology when you are maybe into interior design or something. so always think what path you wanna choose.
and working is not something bad. there are people who say: well im not good in studying and i dont have the patience for that but im good in business so im just gonna do my business idea . and they work and gain also experience and one day they have their own company. so its reaaaaally about what you wanna do in 30 years later.
Been out of school for a year... I've learned how to make guac at Chipotle since graduation.
Gawd the English degree mention triggered me so hard. I really wanted to laugh at this one, but it just made me further regret my higher ed decisions. I'm gonna go cry now. Bye.
Well, that is the truth, and it sure hurts does it? At least you admit you made the wrong decision, the first step to peace is knowing you down wrong and take responsibility of the problem which is accompanied by humility. By the way, I'm an English major, so this isn't a STEM major bashing on you either.
I can't stop laughing at that coffee maker. Yessss u are funny not because of your degree but your genuine self.
"they wanted it, they pay for it!" Yup 😂😂
Okay. So far I have understood that this is meant to be a joke. So people who are thinking over it just remember to work hard to gain knowledge wether with degree or without it. Please don't ignore education based on this. 😄😄
Except that most jobs need years of experience and honestly I'd do the same.
Start a business
College should be free, change my mind.
If you have a degree and are still working at McDonald's for a while, it's your own fault. Volunteer or intern somewhere, go to job fairs, approach people. Just getting a BA isn't going to make a job fall in your lap. Opportunity comes to those who look for it.
I think alot are missing the point college education is far from perfect. . the loans you will be taking out for a piece of paper and then the YEARS you will be waiting for employment that may or may never come.. is far from worth it..
Educate Yourself ..People!
Introduction itslef killed me . Lol 😛
Ansari Abeer my parents
Yeah I haven’t even finished my degree
I’m already dying 😵😵
STICK THROUGH IT
IISuperwomanII
I will I just needed that motivation
I loved this video, hilarious and I laughed all the way through it, even though I don't fit the mold of the video. Graduated with an Electronic Engineering Degree, got a job in my degree field when I graduated, and been there ever since, working on automated robotic camera systems for studio and live production. I was luck followed my passion and got career in a field I'm passionate about.
higher education is a privilege that so many don't have access to. it can be a life-changer. that piece of paper/degree, while it doesn't hold the secrets to a successful future, it is by no means useless and can provide opportunities that someone wouldn't have without it.
it depends. if you're in a liberal arts major like psychology, english or history, it would be better to not pay that tuition for a dead end major. the only majors worth studying are engineering and medical specialists, unless ur at an ivy league, where a law degree, business degree or science/math degree will be of use.
Everyone has access to the same opportunities
J P
‘The only majors worth studying....” hold up, i get what you mean statistically, a lot of people studying English, philosophy etc. may finish their degree and not use it however some do and everyone is different. Also how is it better not to pay to study a major like Psychology if you want to be a psychologist/counsellor? You do realise that you can’t just become a psychologist without a degree in it
The right degree will lead you to a right life, that's just about it
Not only Indian parents, my Chinese parents would be same xd
Lulu Young I’m hoping that you are using XD ironically
XD
Yo straight up I graduated at the end of 2016 after 5 and a half years getting a computer science degree from a top CS school. You'd think at least with that major I'd have a bit better luck getting jobs but NOPE. Didn't have enough internship experience and got passed over by nearly every company, even ones that interviewed me and said their teams actually liked my skills a lot and thought I'd be a good fit. Finally after a year and a half I'm about to go start my first actual programming job and I'm super stoked but it legit took a deep connection on the inside to get even this. Point is, it's rough out here and I feel your pain, girl.
Well computer science is one of those careers that doesn't rely on the level of education you achieved (aka, your diploma/degree/etc) in order for you to get a job, but rather what's important is if you can show that you're able to apply your knowledge (usually takes a lot of co-op, internships, etc). So not having enough internship experience is definitely a set back in this type of career. Although sometimes you can up your chances by creating a portfolio of programs/websites you've made to show your skills to a potential employer.
Good job man!! I am in the same position as you except still unemployed. Goodluck at your new job x
Many people computer science grads are unemployed even if they the degree is so much in demand
yeah with computer science and engineering degrees having experience is real important

Jré Eastbeat lol yes
BLAQK ! .
Yeah no Lily, just because you lucked out with YT /work in entertainment/whatever, it doesn't mean all college degrees are useless. Most of us rely on education to make a living.
Lexie Rocks It's supposed to be a joke bro. Chill out 😀
Thanks for this comment. I love Superwoman but this video is soooooo discouraging, especially as someone who wants to have a career in the animation industry, I really look forward to going to college and getting a degree.
Queen Disaster
She didn't mean to discourage anyone man! This skit was kinda sarcastic. Don't take it too seriously. Good luck! Hope you achieve everything you want😁
Whatever , but don't call it luck. She has worked hard immensely...
padma priya When did I call it luck? I know how hard she has worked to get where she is right now! Battling depression, defeating the odds and an immense will and faith that she has is commendable.
"Good luck!" was for the person who last commented. I was wishing him a good luck for his career in animation. You misunderstood me😅
😂😂😂 i relate to this way to much... I'm currently in uni, hope it pays of
Pat Malia Currently going back a third time for my Masters in Public Health. May the third time be the charm.
Uni, high school? My brother goes there!
Pat Malia hope you're not doing a law degree and then drop out from an existential crisis...
Pulak Kumar hope it will 😄 I'm still at my first year
Random Stuffs no 😊 uni as in university
I love how Lilly talks to the coffee machine 🤣🤣 i find if awesome 🤣🤣
I think the moral of the story is that you will never know what path you will take in life.
Life happens when you are making other plans.
WHY IS THIS SO ME AND MY COMMUNICATIONS DEGREE !?!?
Jessy Jae same 😭
ME!
SAME
This is so gonna be me when I graduate in 2 weeks
ME!!!
i have a bachelor and masters degree and my job requires me to use both...
Ooooh nice
I wish you many years of success 👍🏻
Sounds like you were smart and got a degree in STEM
Wow I bet you're family and peers are very proud of you
You probably got a degree in STEM... Computer science is the way to go!
😒 yup. I can relate. Got a bachelor's in animation and an associates in fine arts. And stuck doing office jobs that has nothing to do with my major. 😧 not even a chance of getting to at least a graphics job. And internship doesn't pay the bills. Life. 😂
Love you Lilly but this one time I cant relate. Me and most of my friends are actually doing something connected to their degree. I dont like the way youtubers talk about education and degrees... Not everyone can be a youtuber.
Agree
Ninti9999 ikr
Ninti9999 yeah all these yt-ers seem to live in dreamland and not know that they represent a small percent of people who made it in this industry and most seem soo sure education is useless. Realitybis, for most, YT money will dry up at some point and many do not have a plan b and will end up at McD because they thought "who needs education, I got YT".
She’s not saying that people who have a degree are not going to necessarily end up in that profession. A lot of jobs are asking for years of experience that many college students aren’t aware of until they graduate and they either start with an unpaid internship (if you are lucky some places will pay interns) or you have to find work anywhere you can get it because those student loans aren’t going to pay for themselves.
LPS Clover Thanks. English is not my first language.
Finally on time. 😊😊😊
So the notifications bell is actually not there for decoration .
LILLY IS TRENDING!!! Yaaaasssss queen 👑
isn't she always trending though? lol
Ghost_Fazbear not in the mood

I have a psychology degree and I’m a line cook. I was unemployed for 3 years and I couldn’t even get a factory job
Amina jay You should major in STEM, and not humanities if you don’t want to be complaining about your lack of success
@@brunocordova545 This person is just sharing their experience, your comment sounds mean
why do you even need a job do a business if you really want money .......
