  • The Complex Oscillator from Verbos Electronics is a masterpiece of high quality analog design. It follows the west coast tradition of synthesis, by starting with a simple waveform and then adding color through FM, AM, and wave shaping.
    In this in-depth tutorial, we delve deeply into the oscillator, exploring each knob and jack separately and with each other. I recorded the output to an oscilloscope at the same time, so you can see the waveform change as I talk about it.

    One thing I really appreciate here is how you keep a coherent talking speed throughout the video. I've noticed a lot of eurorack enthusiasts tend to get more and more exited and speed up and it gets hectic. This demonstration is very enjoyable and I'm able to absorb it all. Thanks!

    Just rewatching this as I bought my first Verbos module (the HO, not the CO). It occurs to me that Verbos modules would be a perfect tool for teaching. Absolutely no-nonsense, as close to the originals as you can get.

    I think I may have to buy one of these, although the next oscillators on my list are the Danny sound Cali Osc and its companion. Why current complex oscillator is the Make Noise DPO and it just doesn't sound as pleasing as this one or the Furthrr. This one is somewhere between the sweetness of the Furthrr and the raspy, in your face-ness of the DPO. Also: These thing are so pretty. Watching Mark play his systems make me want an entire Versos setup. A sound as distinct as a Serge IMO. I don't play much techno, but when I hear the minimal techno that comes out of these systems, it makes me want to abandon my Eno style explorations and make minimal techno exclusively. Thanks for the video.

    Hey there ! Cool video for a cool VCO ! Around 7:40 when you show the modulation oscillator you forgot to to turn off the sync switch, that's way you have almost no signal when the frequency is below the main one.

    Do you still have this module after almost two years? If so, has your opinion changed? I'm thinking about this one or the Harmonic Oscillator, which also looks great. Had a DPO which I loved, but sold it to finance a Summit.

    Wow my local had Verbos stuff on "clearance" as well recently. I know it's expensive stuff but I hope people are taking the plunge. An equivalent set in Buchla will cost you twice as much money

    Question for you: What is the Frequency range of both the Modular and Carrier Oscillators, and do you know any way to calibrate them?

  • @GuitarsAndSynths

    Trying to decide between Verbos, Instruo CS-l, and Frap Tools Brenso. Which of these three is best for hard industrial techno music and why? Would love all three plus Rossum Trident.

    I think The square wave looks unlike a square ,usually is because the sounds is go thru a AC coupled mixer or audio interface... so they couldn't stayed offset for long and go back to 0V

    If you are blown away by the Verbos you should try the Pittsburgh Double Helix, both based on Bucla but the Helix is on some serious steroids. Great video as usual. 👍👍👍 The Verbos stuff is amazing though and you definitely got a cool oscillator.

      @UndertheBigTree  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the harmonic oscillator is great. But as you say, it is not cheap. You get what you pay for, but I haven't had the fund to focus on that module. Hopefully someday!

    Can you put an external signal through the wave folder?

    • @UndertheBigTree
      @UndertheBigTree  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think so. I didn't see any way to do it, other than having an external signal modulating the master oscillator, and then running that into the wave folder. But that's not really the same thing.
