    We were there last week and as soon as we got home we booked another Airbnb already for next October. I highly recommend going in Oct, the park was empty and the weather was perfect for the time of year:) Great vid!

    I worked three summers in Yellowstone. 85 at Mammoth, 91 at Old Faithful and 95 at Grant Village. As for Steamboat Geyser, it is unpredictable, although it went off more last summer then any other year. Buffalo are every where as are elk. After awhile I just kinda got jaded by seeing them all the time. You did a good job, I usually tell people they need a full week in the park to see the "best parts". I hiked alone and the most dangerous critter I saw was a Moose. And I know you didn't have a lot of time, but you missed out on Lake. A very nice hotel there. That whole stretch of road from Grant Village to Fishing Bridge is worth the drive. Many people buy bottled water due to the mineral heavy water in Yellowstone. You get used to it after awhile, but for a short visit, it can be hard to drink, unless they have set up stations to filter the water.

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, that must have been an amazing experience to work there during the summer. I do wish we had a chance to explore more of Lake Yellowstone. Perhaps we'll get a chance to return in a few years. 😊

    My first visit to your channel was quite enjoyable! I will look up other of your videos to enjoy them as well.
    I first visited Yellowstone nearly 70 years ago! I have lived in Missouri, Arizona, Colorado, and now the Olympic Peninsula of Washington state. Not always as close to Yellowstone as I would like, but still close enough for many, many revisits. On this platform, I have seen many Yellowstone videos, from excellent to absolutely terrible. Yours is definitely one of the better ones! You have covered the entire park without it being tedious to the viewer. It is a good all-around guide to what to do and see in the park. Well done! I look forward to watching your other videos.
    Our next trip to Yellowstone will be in two weeks. I made the reservations last December, unaware of what was coming in the spring. At first, all National Parks were closed. Then they opened up, but offered limited services. Since we travel with our pup, we always book lodging in the cabins, available at Old Faithful, Lake Yellowstone, Canyon, and Mammoth. At first, they were the only accommodations open. Now, some parts of the hotels have opened, but the food services are limited, and take-out only. We always planned for lunchtime picnics, because of our dog being with us, so that will work out OK. Another disappointment is the closure of all the Visitor Centers. I am mostly interested in the thermal areas, and the Old Faithful Visitor center is a favorite haunt. Now the geyser predictions are posted on a sandwich board outside. Since connectivity in the park, as you noted, is slim to none, my geyser prediction app has been pretty much useless. Also, laundries in the campgrounds and hotels are closed. If you want to do laundry, West Yellowstone, Cooke City (Northeast Entrance) and Gardiner (North Entrance) are your only choices. All but Gardiner are about an hour drive from the Loop Road.
    I was glad you made the point about taking care with the wildlife. Some folks think Yellowstone is a petting zoo. It is NOT! I see videos of close, near-disastrous encounters and just have to wonder what people are thinking! Well, obviously they are not. People think that rules mean everyone else, not them. Be that as it may, your warnings were valuable, and I hope well heeded. I also see on the Upper Geyser Basin web cam , many younger visitors (not just kids, but teens and older who should know better) walking off the boardwalks, I guess to prove how brave and fearless they are. I shake my head in wonder. My husband refers to it as Darwinism.....the dregs of the gene pool will eliminate themselves by this kind of behavior.
    Sorry for the long post. Thank you again for a well thought out and presented video. One tiny suggestion.....you maybe could speak just a little slower.

Now that the national parks are slated to open soon, I'll see if I can work through the other parks that we visited on our trip (Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, Grand Teton, and Bryce Canyon). Great video. Love the watch for "bed" (bear) warning. 🤣 Never been in the park on foot, always flew through it. Got some great photographs from the air. We do enjoy hiking / camping and this video was very well made. Definitely need to put this on the list.
    Yea, bison aren't meant to be dealt with. They look very timid but there was one time I was flying overhead in a helicopter (CH-53E) and heard a very loud bang. Thought something happened to the helicopter. Pilot told me to look out on port side and when I did, two Bison were head butting each other. The power of their hits were so great that you could hear it through all the noise and radio chatter on the bird.

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Darn! I knew I should have done one more check before publishing the video. I was up late last night editing and was definitely thinking about bed. 😄
      That's insane that you could hear the bison from the helicopter. We also heard a rumbling sound when we were on the off-road trail. It ended being a herd of bison running down a hill. I have to admit that I had a few seconds of terror until they stopped at the field near us!

    • @Pixics
      @Pixics 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yes, I saw a guy going close to the bison, and he looked tiny. I think they are easily taller than a average sized man.

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's hard to tell, to be honest. The park reopened today, but it sounds like they have a lot of restrictions to promote social distancing. I imagine it won't be exactly the same experience, but since the very nature and structure of a national park trip is to be away from others, I imagine that it will still be a meaningful experience.

    Hi Ernest, it looks like you and your wife chose to drive around Yellowstone. Was there an option to take a park shuttle to the different areas like in Zion? I'm just trying to decide if we should do a class C camper (park and stay put) or do the hotel and car route like you guys did. Thank you!

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Courtney! I don't remember seeing any shuttle service within the park. To be honest, I would plan to drive around, especially given the size of the park. Though you may be able to do it with your camper as well. When we visited, I remember seeing a lot of campers going from one stop to another. The only trade-off is that you won't be able to take a camper on any of the dirt roads.
      Hope that's helpful. Though let us know if you have any other questions. 😊

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's hard to tell with the pandemic. It also depends on where you want to stay. Getting a reservation inside the park can be tough. But if you're willing to stay outside the park, there are a lot of options. The lodging at the park is expensive too. However, it is worth the extra cost and convenience (in my opinion). 😊
