This train is the NS 22K and it hit a Semi Truck in Ohio earlier that day. it hit the rear part of the semi trailer at a Railroad Crossing.5 Trains in all in this action packed train video filmed in and around Dun Kirk NY on May 28th 2022.

Great timing of the double train meet today! Both lead locomotives met almost perfectly in zipping past each other at the crossing. 🤗
As stated by others, your filming is consistently excellent with good angles that are clear and in focus and steady, even in windy days. Nice work.
I’ve noticed on occasional videos that a lone rail photographer may pop up between you and the tracks. He is often very close to the tracks probably wanting to get his perfect shot. Having someone that close to a 60-mph train makes me nervous. I lived and worked in the Los Angeles area for some 25 years back in the 1960’s-1980’s. Access to railroad action was plentiful from The Cajon Pass to Tehachapi and northward along the coastal route beyond Ventura. In those days lots of loose products were secured with 1/2” and wider steel straps. These straps often broke and long pieces or ends would drag on the ground along side the cars from which they broke off. They would often whip around and extend eight feet or more from the side of the train. These were deadly. Rare cases were reported where someone standing close to the tracks was severely injured (even cut in half). Most railroad photographers were aware of the danger and stood back. Telephoto lenses did their job very effectively. I don’t think steel straps are used as much today (I don’t really know). Bottom line: Be careful and know your environment .

Gotta love the live train meet footage, was at the brickyard in altoona pa for the first time a couple of years ago and caught a triple meet can't beat the meet experiences. Kudos

Very cool! DPU Alrights to make the Memorial Day weekend! I don't think they can use that engine with the smashed windshield as a lead until it's repaired - which would make good sense :)
Looks like those windshields are really strong. That engine made out well considering it hit a semi. I saw a video of an AMTRAK hitting a car carrier. Totally destroyed the engine and damaged a few cars.
I can certainly understand why they won't allow an engine with a broken windshield to lead the train.
First of all, safety for the crew! If something was to kick up and fly towards the front of the engine at 50-60 MPH; that could cause serious injuries.

NS is undergoing a major rebuild cycle. All of the trains are NS with BNSF leased power. You should see some of the lashups going through here. NS/UP/CSX/KCS/CN/CP. We also see multiple DPU lashups due to the grades to the east of two or more percent.

Those windshields are made from the same glass as that in the A10 Thunderbolt II and are supposed to prevent penetration by up to 20mm cannon fire. Before that it was common to see "ghetto grates" made of heavy steel screen bolted over the wind shields. ANOTHER nose to nose meet right in front of you? You ARE living right! Great video, way to go.

Perfect train meet! Would like to see that low clearance tunnel you keep referring to. Also - is there video or pics of when that train hit the semi, would like to know the story of that.
I walked to the western Portal and caught a train coming up the grade into the tunnel. I have photos of it since I bought my first digital camera. It was an Olympus 7070. I still have that camera. Pic are on a cd.

when you had zoomed in and out i was like what is burning in them cars
just a random thought, considering we are in the 21 st century I cannot believe that they still allow those open top rubbish wagons & coal wagons to run around without some sort of covering over their loads, if they where trucks doing that the epa would come down on them like a ton of bricks. surely it needs looking at.

I remember hearing about this exact train vs truck incident! It happened on 05/28/2022 around 10:00 am at E 305th in Willowick OH, just 15-20 mins east of my house in Painesville. Seen the video, it’s these exact two locomotives as well, just switched around. It wasn’t a Semi-truck, it was an Enterprise box truck rental, but close enough…

When train and auto meet, it’s never even a close game. Still has to be scary for the guy in the train though. Seems like that impact could still cause injury.

ChainsawN&W1218, interesting, and cool to see, those engines are tough, I've heard some models fully fueld up can weigh up to 250 tons,usually just cosmetic damage if any to a locomotive 🚂,,great stuff 👍.

Not sure what it is but at 7:03 it looked to me like the cars on the one train were on fire. At 7:45 when the other train went out of the video and you were closer to a side view of the cars it no longer looked like they were burning.

one grey! strange damage on 22K normally hitting a truck leaves more visible farther down damage than that! if you hadn't said it hit a truck i'd thought it was a bird strike!! i saw one a few years back where the train was doing 60 65 and had a bird punch clean through the windshield just missing the engineer!! with all that orange plastic flopping around on 634 it looked like they were hauling trash to new york instead of the other way around!!
I was thinking that too about the direction of the trash loads. You can see lower damage to that unit that hit the truck
