Without Carl Weathers I don't think the Rocky films especially Rocky and Rocky II would have been as great as they were. He brought an amazing presence onscreen.
Stallone absolutely owes the success of the Rocky series to Weathers indeed. Carls character and involvement
is just as responsible for the projects success as Stallones is. The Apollo character is just as iconic as the Rocky character.

But Stallone wrote each screenplay...he created this world...and he directed the 3 most financially successful entries in the series. Also, while Apollo was the most larger than life character, the other roles....Adrian, Paulie, and Mickey...were each as important to the series, and were each as well played by the respective actors...Weathers was very important to the franchise. But he was only one of several people who brought brilliant performances to the big screen. To compare him to Stallone is ridiculous.

I hope the family survives being on reality tv. A lot of times there is a split up afterwards because of the pressure being on camera so much in your home.
I hate to say this but without Carl Rocky would not have been so great . He brought something to the Rocky movies that Sly just didn't have . Together they made Rocky a masterpiece. Rip champ
His performance elevated everything about that movie and laid the groundwork for the franchise. Absolute legend. Apollo was the best fighter of the series, imo.

Without Sly there would’ve been ZERO; he wrote & created the franchise. CW was a golden addition.
Obviously its a team effort. The right combination of actors, the right script, the right everything makes a good movie. But I understand where you coming from. Sly on the day of his death mentioned how Carl was just "magical."
@@sdavis5001 Of course. Stallone wrote the screenplays, and directed the 3 most successful entries in the series. Rocky was HIS world. If you took the most gifted young people at film school, and told them they had to match his achievement with the first 4 Rocky films...or commit suicide....they'd go ahead and ask for the noose...It's not happening.
My mom took my brother and I to see Rocky back in the 70s. It was the most exciting time we ever had as a family watching this iconic movie together. 😊

I met Carl in Cherry Hill, NJ 6 years ago. He was 70 and looked super! I thought he would have had more time on earth than he did. ❤ Too Soon.

Sly and Henry worked together on the 1974 film "The Lords Of Flatbush". Great film. Henry mentioned in an interview a few years ago that he saved three jackets from over the years. The brown leather jacket he wore during the later seasons of Happy Days, the sport jacket he wore in the 1982 film "Night Shift", and the black leather jacket he wore in "The Lords Of Flatbush".

About 2 years ago I met Carl Weathers at Comic Con 2022. Very nice guy. I told him I was a fan of The Las Vegas Raiders, who Carl used to play for.
He told me "There are a lot of fans out there." I told him, "The fans are crazy at games." Weathers looks at me and asks "Are you one of them?"
I told him "No but my girlfriend will tell you I am." I promise I am not a crazy fan. RIP Carl Weathers. He was very kind to talk to.

Last night I dreamed I was living very close to Carl Weathers and we often waved at each other. Carl was the type of guy you could not hate, his acting was outstanding and he really brought meaning to every role he . played. I wish I had knowed him like my dreams told me I did---a GREAT Actor and man.

I remember when Rocky came out; I was just a kid. I didn't know anyone in the movie, and all the characters were (correctly) written as "nobody"s. when carl weathers came on the screen, I said, "that guy looks like the champ, acts like the champ, and I thought he was the real pro in the movie. what a movie that was!

I loved Sylvester's little pun on having a "rocky" start with Carl. That's what you're supposed to do, have fun, even when something tough happens. He makes a bit of light out of the difficult time he went through. I do see that he's trying to really hold back his emotions. It must've been extremely tough for him. yup. I don't know if you remember the episode where the bullying patron at Cheers wanted to fight Cliff because of his annoying know-it-all banter, but Carl Weathers was in that episode too. Cliff, being a coward, hired Lewis (Carl) to confront the bully. But when the bully told Lewis why he wants to fight him, Lewis suddenly became the bully's kindred spirit and let him do what he wanted, because Cliff annoys Lewis too. Hilarious!

Regarding Carl, when Sly compared him to Superman, my immediate instinct was to shout ''YES!''. Carl, whom we all loved, personifies the leadership as well as the intrinsic, American, altruistic and confident values of the Man of Steel. In a burst of joy, I ordered the 80s film “Action Jackson” in his homage.
I absolutely love the Family Stallone and this family. So excited for season 2.

Everything I knew about Carl long before he past away was that he was a really good guy. A man with a lot of heart and moral values. He was the kind of guy who would look out for the vulnerable and back them up if necessary. I've only known a few guys like that in my life and they were definitely not in Europe where I have been living since the 90s. Actually from what I remember they were mostly marines.
