In 2024, I am headed back to my favourite place on earth to dive: Truk Lagoon! And you can come too!

Truk Lagoon has the highest concentration of diveable, world war two wrecks on the planet, but more than that, that variety of the wrecks, from fighter planes to cargo ships to submarines is truly astonishing. As part of the war effort, the Japanese armed forces sequestered merchant vessels and militarized them.
60% of Chuck lagoon’s 60+ wrecks are within recreational dive limits. The lagoon is not that deep. Even for technical divers, the deeper wrecks are not that deep. If you’re a recreational diver with deep diver training and certification, you can see all the cool stuff Truk has to offer. If you’re interested in swimming through the wrecks, I would definitely recommend some formal wreck training. Of the dozen people already signed up for our Truk 2024 trip who receive advanced notification of this trip from our mailing list, hint hint, it’s about a 50/50 split between technical divers and recreational. Plus, we’re running six divers per boat and one boat per wreck, so if you are a recreational diver, you’re not going to be sitting around waiting for the techies to finish their deco.
    Thanks as always for watching!

Everything he said about Truk is accurate. I’m glad he mentioned the flora and fauna as it was spectacular and an unexpected bonus. Calling the Blue Lagoon a resort is a stretch. If you go be prepared as it’s pretty basic and Chuuk is very poor. There is no nightlife at all. You will be diving and hanging out at the “resort.” The live aboard Odyssey is amazing if you have that option.

Absolutely love Truk Lagoon. The pinnacle of wreck diving. I always tell wreck divers this is a must do destination if you care anything about history and wreck diving. I also tell divers that you need to go soon as the wrecks will not last forever. I do warn divers that these are war time graves and to be treated as such with respect.

Damn, you have made me excited about this trip. I never knew about Turk, now near the top of my bucket list. I will not be able to make it on this trip, is it a regular thing? As per the sardine run in SA. I would definitely plan it for a year later. Love your content BTW.

Maru wasn't just a wartime thing, it is a Japanese naval tradition dating back centuries and even today you see maru on most Japanese civilian ships. Supposed because maru means circle and thus represents a safe trip by returning home. Unfortunately for the Japanese sailors it didn't work out for the vessels sunk at Truk.
