The first time I heard them was on SingOff Season 3. My wife watched the show regularly and I sat down with her one day to watch with her. These folks were on it and I just couldn't believe what I was hearing. She and I both were in choir at church, and both of us appreciate great harmonizing, but this was some different level stuff this group offered up. They are nothing short of amazing.

They do use the Kevin’s cello at certain times, bc Kevin uses it at the concerts, as a bridge to transition from the first part of the show to the second. They use instruments carefully in their arrangements and it’s always tastefully done, just beautiful! On their last Christmas album Scott played the piano whilst Kevin played the cello with the harmonies being used like strings, the song is called “thank you”. They’ve also performed w/orchestra’s and still sing their harmonies/beatbox and bass lines. Pretty cool change and you can tell they have a blast no matter the venue! Earphones are always better when listening to accapella.:-)

This is a'capella harmony (no instruments) that takes harmonizing by groups on the street corners that go back to the 50's and 60's to a stratospheric level. Each member seems to have the vocal ability to do just about anything with regard to all ranges of harmony, which is unheard of. Normally you have a lead singer, a baritone, a 2nd tenor, and a higher 1st tenor. This is anything and everything by seemingly everyone.
If you keep reacting to them, keep in mind that the only member that has left (sadly) is avi (black beard). I say this because so many people think other people have left since they change their looks SO MUCH 😭

Avi has made me cry several times when he sang that emotional verse. They sing so perfect together. It's amazing what they have accomplished with only their voices. I had heard Barber shop quartettes as a kid and was not a fan but, this is a whole new level. I loved your reaction. I could tell you were blown away as I was for the 1st time. This was the 1st song I'd ever heard of theirs too. Bawled like a baby. It still gives me chills.
They've won 3 Grammys so far for Daft Punk Medley, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and Jolene (with Dolly Parton). The only change in the group is their bass from Avi (guy with the beard who left on good terms) to Matt in 2017. The other 4 members are the original members. Kirsten, and Mitch especially, have different looks over the years.

There's true magic that happens when Pentatonix sings.
First, watching Pentatonix with headphones is a must. If you don't, you will miss out on a lot. Second, they are an all acapella group with five members. In this video they start with Scott (one of the trio lead singers, and occasional bass), Avi (the main bass), Kirsti (one of the trio lead singers), Mitch (one of the trio lead singers), and Kevin (beatbox, percussion, background vocals, etc.). Later on Avi left the group and was replaced by Matt, who is also a great bass, but has a different sound. Third, get ready if you are gonna go down this rabbit hole, cause the Pentaholics (fan group name) will send you constant videos to watch. Have fun!

Mitch and Avi amaze me every time! Their vocal ability and quality is outstanding, God given or not, just by happenstance they were born to have that quality. Their talent is just to hard to even describe in words. My ears are always happy when I hear them.

Fun fact: Scott (blonde guy that sang first) takes over the bass when the one who is normally bass (Avi or Matt) has a solo singing part! He does it in this one and he always sounds amazing! Something a lot of first time listeners miss. 💙

They do use the Kevin’s cello at certain times, bc Kevin uses it at the concerts, as a bridge to transition from the first part of the show to the second. They use instruments carefully in their arrangements and it’s always tastefully done, just beautiful!
On their last Christmas album Scott played the piano whilst Kevin played the cello with the harmonies being used like strings, the song is called “thank you”.
They’ve also performed w/orchestra’s and still sing their harmonies/beatbox and bass lines. Pretty cool change and you can tell they have a blast no matter the venue!

I think you felt the joy in this song, from seeing the beautiful smile on your face…and the sorrow as well.. which is exactly what I felt the first time hearing it a few days ago. I’ve listened to it multiple times since and wake up with it in my head. Glorious! I bawled my head off the first through the 10th time of listening to it… yeah… that hasn’t stopped 🤣. I feel like I’m listening to Angels sing and that I’m just that much closer to God.

This is a'capella harmony (no instruments) that takes harmonizing by groups on
the street corners that go back to the 50's and 60's to a stratospheric level. Each
member seems to have the vocal ability to do just about anything with regard to
all ranges of harmony, which is unheard of. Normally you have a lead singer, a
baritone, a 2nd tenor, and a higher 1st tenor. This is anything and everything by
seemingly everyone.

Avi has made me cry several times when he sang that emotional verse. They sing so perfect together. It's amazing what they have accomplished with only their voices. I had heard Barber shop quartettes as a kid and was not a fan but, this is a whole new level. I loved your reaction. I could tell you were blown away as I was for the 1st time. This was the 1st song I'd ever heard of theirs too. Bawled like a baby. It still gives me chills.

They've won 3 Grammys so far for Daft Punk Medley, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and Jolene (with Dolly Parton).
The only change in the group is their bass from Avi (guy with the beard who left on good terms) to Matt in 2017. The other 4 members are the original members. Kirsten, and Mitch especially, have different looks over the years.
They are an amazing acapella group, They use their own bodies and voices to make the music themselves period
