- This week's video is a promotional video I did for my friends at McKearney Asphalt & Sealing. This video features the complete project from start to finish. Milling was done by a Roadtec RX-700e. Would it be possible to bring in an asphalt subsoiler (Fae and terex are brands I’ve seen) to prep and eliminate the haul off? What would be the pros and cons?
A lot of the new parking lots for chains like Meijer are using soil stabilization to firm up the subgrade which would eliminate the need to stage the asphalt and move it to smaller trucks. The advantages would be the streamlined process for delivering asphalt to the paver as well as a longer life of the new mat. The disadvantage is really cost. You can see the size of the parking lot in the final shots of the video. To bring in a machine and stabilize that area would have cost a small fortune and this particular customer opted to pass on stabilization. There were a couple spots in the parking lot that did require an undercut but that was far cheaper than stabilizing the entire site.
