Probably one of the best Milan's matches I've ever seen. The atmosphere were insane. Gatusso completely bullied Ronaldo, while Kaka brought constant fear to United's back line.
With all that , I was quite surprised to know that they finished 4th in Serie A that season, When they swept us away like that , I thought they were dominating serie A at the time.

We adore him in Brazil! Netherlands has a special place in the brazilian hearts, even though they've beaten us many times in the WCs. And for my generation (which didn't watch Cruyff play), Bergkamp and Seedorf are in a special place (along with rijkaard, Ruud Gullit and Van Basten). Fine Art!
This was AC Milan at their highest watermark in terms of performance, confidence and maturity. Shame Andriy Shevchenko their premier poacher wasn't around for this season. However Super Pippo Inzaghi at the age of 34 showed us how he was truly "born outside the offside trap" as Ferguson once quipped years before. Also Ricardo Kaka, the wonder kid that almost could not ply his professional footballing career due to a swimming accident resulting in a spinal fracture, went on a developed into a powerhouse lung busting box to box attacking midfielder. And this 06/07 season and in particular this series of Manchester United matches, showed the world his zenith in terms of youth, power, speed, control and clinical finishing prowess. If not of his injuries and the Italian economic collapse AC Milan would have seen Kaka lead AC Milan to greater glory in the late 2000s
As a Milan fam, it just breaks my heart that Schevchenko left for Chelsea, purely for money. I always say this; if Kaka and Schevchenko didn't leave Milan until 2010, Milan would secure at least the UCL semis every season consecutively.
Kaka during that time was unstoppable...unfortunately, he had a short career...he could have stayed in Milan and be a legend but the lure of Madrid is simply irresistible..
his career wasnt THAT short....from 2003 to 2013 he was darn awesome...ppl forget but his first season in Madrid was far from a failure. But in the next few seasons Mourinho preferred Ozil
Remember clearly watching this and being floored by Milan's directness. Was rooting for United in those good old days when Milan was a club you feared and resented if you weren't a Milanista. Milan will be back but even if this is way past the glory days of the football I loved the atmosphere of San Siro is brilliant and I doubt we'll get it back in our days.
i was surprised by Man Utd in this game. Considering then the PL was all about aggressive direct football...they shoud have been more than accustomed to that brand of football, and even the weather was english...

The fact is Milan were out to avenge that 2005 final loss at all costs and were very determined. Man Utd on the contrary hadnt been to a UCL semi for 5 years and the Utd players knew they had luckily won the first leg 3-2. They knew deep down Milan was slightly better and way more experienced. Milan won this game mentally imo. The Utd back four was not the best also, some key players missing. All goals were preventable , esp the 2nd one, which was really the killer blow.

In fact i wanna add that Milan almost rested their entire XI days before the second leg bcuz they were not competing to win the league (they ended up 4th at that year) while United was competing against Chelsea for the prem and didnt have the luxury to rest their players.

Everyone says the same, but Gatusso locked onto Ronaldo all night. Whenever Ronnie tried his tricks, flicks and step-overs, Gatusso, just took the ball and made him look average. Yes, the odd barge and a foul or two, but mainly inch perfect interceptions. The only game I've ever seen Ronaldo completely outclassed. For me, Gatusso was imperious that night and definitely man of the match.

This game was an important lesson for us, I was impressed that we went that far in the champions league that season and we got the experience that we needed to win the next one. Also what an amazing performance from kaka, such a legendary player.
