      I've stayed in places on a couple of vacations in France where I had access to kitchenettes, so I had the opportunity to not only brouse the isles of the grocery stores (a favorite passtime while there) but also do a bit of cooking. The Bonne Mamman chocolate deserts are so good - I wish they had them in the US.

    French here, about "Le Petit Marseillais" brand : Marseilles soap is in our blood, i'm french from no place in particular due to large changes during my young years, it's everywhere the same ! This brand is special, as they imply in their name the inheritance of a 2600 years old city's traditions and rules, and as far as i know, they stand up to a high level of quality, with very few ingredients (like water, an oil and sodium hydroxyde complex as soap agent, perfumes of course, and by law, stabilisers), and kids friendly range of products.
    We don't say it much, but that's a brand we are really really proud of 😅❤ Things we speak only with very close people, yet spreading like wildfire 😅🤣
    There is 3 way to do things : the good way, the bad way, and the french way 😉❤🖖

    My go-to product is “Gervita”, plain fromage blanc with a top layer of unsweetened whipped cream. Being diabetic really limits me to the supermarket products I can have. I add stevia to it. Next to the Boursin is Tartare. I did a side-by-side taste test, and I like the garlic herb Tartare better than the Boursin one.
    For a future supermarket video, may I suggest a focus on “bio” and “diététique” products. There are a lot of people who have dietary restrictions and that could be very helpful. I recently discovered the brands “Dukan” and “Gayelord Hauser”.

    Two of my favorite grocery store products are Bonne Maman's semoule au lait vanille naturelle (vanilla semolina pudding) and vast array of chilled desserts such as mousse, flan and pot de creme in unusual flavors like fig, noisette or currant. Also love the frozen prepared seafood dishes that come in small ceramic ramekins with flavors such as Coquille St. Jacques. I still have a collection of those ramekins. We have nothing like these in the US!

    I work at a major supermarket chain in the Chicago area. I like seeing the similarities and differences between American stores and those in other parts of the world. I know most French grocery stores don’t have pharmacies or even over the counter medication. I like that most American stores also have carts like the one at 25:19. I’m shopping for myself so I find them handy, especially if I’m picking up stuff like canned goods, a gallon of milk or some pop which get heavy quick.

      The pharmacies are everywhere in France like bakeries so there is no need for one in a supermarket. And when supermarkets are in a shopping area or a mall, there are always one or several pharmacies in the same mall.

    A raclette dinner is so fun. I have a raclette grill, a yummy little-prep dinner for sort of a community meal. It’s hard to find raclette cheese here in SoCal but a gruyere subs fine. I offer non traditional raw beef, salmon, instead of veal, and boiled potatoes, bread, tons of accoutrements like cornishons, cocktail onions, etc. A very unique and easy way to host a dinner for six, if you’ve got an inexpensive raclette grill and an outlet near your table!. And the stories to tell about the Swiss/French/Austrian/whoever mountain sheep or cattle Alpine wranglers melting their night cheese over a fire, they’re worth the price of the grill. Thanks Diane and happy holidays! 💃💐

    (12:15) Something really important you didn"t talk about in the cheese section is that there's a lot of product that have a little red and gold symbol with "appelation d'origine protégée" or "AOP" (protected designation of origin) written on it. It's an european legislation that garanties you quality. Products that want this little symbol on their packaging need to pass a very strict series of test and to follow traditionnal methods that garanties the origin and quality of the product to have the right to use this little symbol so if you can, choose products with the AOP medal, they are a little bit more pricey but WAY better, not all product can have this little medal but if you are looking for a goat milk cheese for exemple, if you take the AOP cheese, you will not be disappointed for sure.

    Bonjour, Diane! I'm hopefully moving to the South of France in a few months. One of my favorite US foods is cottage cheese (weird, probably). Is that a uniquely American food or do they have it in France? And if so, what is it called? Merci beaucoup!

    • @ArthurM0rgan63
      @ArthurM0rgan63 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can find cottage cheese easily these days, no problem, and guess what, it's called 'cottage cheese' as it's not typically French, the original name is used. Philadelphia brand is also widely spread nowadays.

      Look for a product line called Jockey (from Danone). You can find it but not everywhere and definitely no flavored ones with mix-ins or anything. Danone uses the English "Cottage Cheese" on the label.

    Wow I never realised that potato chips were very often in a different section than crackers! But it's usually near.
    I wonder why though because it's frequent to eat chips during an apero... maybe because we're going to look for it no matter where they put it in the store?

    • @sarahrosen4985
      @sarahrosen4985 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my country the chips are also not with the crackers. Tooooootally different food classes. Sometimes, the chips are almost their own aisle but they are also with corn chips, doritos, Cheetos, puffed snacks. Sometimes one side of the aisle is chips and the other side is pretzels. If not, the pretzels sometimes can be found near the crackers. Chips and crackers - never together.

    • @chucku00
      @chucku00 ปีที่แล้ว

      Crackers are often near the liquor secion (pastis, whisky...), so du to their sheer volume chips are often located in another section, ususally the adjacent ones.

      There are organic (bio) products in every section of French supermarkets, from cookies to vegetables. Even small supermarkets at the deep end of countryside have organic products selection. There are also specific organic shops like Biocoop or Naturalia but they are often overpriced and mostly located in middle/big cities.

      There's something named "lait entier" (whole milk) that includes enough cream to render half and half irrelevant. Or you can also find "lait crèmeux" if you really want more cream. And if you're into "full cream" you can get "crème chantilly" (whipped cream) in a siphon.

    • @NouriaDiallo
