  • The author of the acclaimed "Prince Studio Sessions" books (#Prince and the #PurpleRain Era Studio Sessions #1983 - #1984 & Prince and the #Parade & #SignOTheTimes Era Studio Sessions #1985 and #1986 ) Duane Tudahl stops by ‪@ApolloniaStudio6‬ in a revealing two-part interview. Duane discusses writing his books, speaking to many of the Prince proteges and collaborators, and his career as a #producer , #Comedian , #editor, and #author . Duane and #Apollonia also delves into the creation of the song #ManicMonday by #thebangles and some of the #PurpleRain infamous outtakes from the film.
The Queen of the iconic movie "Purple Rain," starring Prince and leader of the girl group Apollonia 6, Apollonia Kotero, is hosting her premiere Podcast, "Apollonia Studio 6", exclusively to the "Apollonia Studio 6" channel on TH-cam. Apollonia, along with her co-host, Mr. Seth, has a kaleidoscope of guests from Music, Film, TV, Fashion, Photography, and of course, the Royal Purple Family just waiting to pull up a chair at the purple round table in Studio 6 to talk story, share insights, some laughs and maybe even a tear. This time, Apollonia is going to "Take U with Her!" Welcome to "Apollonia Studio 6."

If you're there during the writing and recording process, adding to the lyric, melody, arrangement and music of the released song, you are indeed a co-writer; Unless you are on wage as a session musician (employed). Apollonia's input to any Prince song was arguably a lyric here and there. This does not make her a co-writer. She possibly inspired Prince in his choice of lyric, but stating she should be paid for being in the room when inspiration took hold is nonsense. Wendy and Lisa were co-writers, in the sense that they were specifically involved in the musical creation and arrangement of specific songs. However, they too, were employed musicians, taking a wage. A band like U2 share their co-writing credentials equally, no matter who does what, but they are a band in the specific sense of that term (The Revolution never were); U2 were never paid individually as employees. Apollonia was a friend of Prince, but she was also on the payroll at the time. This forfeits her claims. Whether she, or you disagree with this, it's a fact. Prince was rich enough towards the end of his life to share his fortune and good fortune around, but if he did do this, he did so out of kindness, not because he legally had to.

Agree with a lot of this, but whether or not you co-write a song isn't just a matter of legality. P credited others as co-writers who were also on his payroll.

I'm now reading the second book covering 1985 and 1986 and the details into Prince's creation process is just as detailed and compelling as the first part.

Wait a minute, how do you know that for sure? Maybe she did collaborate with prince were you there? The thing is that there’s probably evidence to support it and I believe her I believe Patricia. Why is it that your question her and her claims but you don’t question this authors book? And its contents? Prince is not around to verify someone who just came out of nowhere with a book that seemingly was being kept with the future plan to publish it. Prince is not around to verify if anything in the studio records or whatever this book is about is in the record or true.

Thanks for sharing. I guess prince justified in his mind that he did work harder than anyone around him, might be why he didn't give fair credit to the ones that worked on projects with him. It's hard to say why he didn't want Apollonia to make some money, a nickel compared to what he was making on the same project. He really did use people to get what he wanted out of them. It's clear he didn't care about the money, he maybe left no plans for his money 😮. And the way he kept the airlines in business flying hundreds of people around sometimes just for the day or two. Money was no object for prince. But how he chose to share it is a mystery. I guess because no one gave him anything except Ms. Anderson, his psyche wouldn't let him give credit where credit is due. He had to make something from starting with nothing. A true rags to riches story. I would love to hear prince bought Ms. Anderson a nice house, payback for the 4 years she fed him and let him live there. Who knows why he didn't share the money that he didn't care about, it could of changed ones life. I think everyone is going to get paid something, hopefully before they pass on.

Prince like many great artist drew inspiration from observation and life - he gave more than he took in the credits and though he could have easily credited in a more authentic way that's was not in his DNA or was his artistic approach. No one had to stay and some didn't because he didn't credit an inspiration or a riff, but come on -- the man was great for 40+ years. Yes we want truth, but if you are a fan of this channel, we in many cases know based on the evidence provided who was in the room and who was there - again based on the evidence provided. No need to hedge everything. With that said - I always believed the story of Glamorous Life from here because the song was done when Sheila did her part. As for Manic Monday -- Susan has a different version - but again, he drew inspiration from many people according to the evidence.

I love Prince but I'm glad people are coming forward and being honest about his behavior. It seems often, everyone is walking on eggshells...still. He ripped people off many times and it's not right. It's good he was starting to undo some of his wrongs--should've been done 30 years ago though! LONG overdue.

Certainly purple rain put in a higher profile as a leading lady, but excuse me, she worked her ass off on that side and wrist, her safety, even for her heart to try to achieve something artistic. The subsequent success after that, and the role she took or because of her doing certainly prints at a Part, and making her famous, but she chose her. He chose her for a reason there was something there and I think he made a great choice. It’s interesting other people who are attacking I would say all of the fans that are attacking Apollonia but if only you knew… If only you knew…. About…
