Something rotten is brewing beneath the industrial mecca known as Raccoon City. Unknown to its millions of residents, a huge underground bioengineering facility known as The Hive has accidentally unleashed the deadly and mutating T-virus, killing all of its employees. To contain the leak, the governing supercomputer, Red Queen, has sealed all entrances and exits. Now a team of highly-trained super commandos including Rain (Michelle Rodriguez - The Fast and the Furious, Girlfight), Alice (Milla Jovovich - The Fifth Element) and Matt (Eric Mabius - Cruel Intentions) must race to penetrate The Hive in order to isolate the T-virus before it overwhelms humanity. To do so, they must get past the Red Queen's deadly defenses, face the flesh-eating undead employees, fight killer mutant dogs and battle The Licker, a genetically mutated savage beast whose strength increases with each of its slain victims.

If we are talking live action adaptations this movie really isn't far of from the games so I applaud it to this day for that. Slower zombies but still scary as hell...

Yeah... No... 4-6 are not classics, at all. 3, maybe. 2 was close to 1's quality. 1 is the real classic.
@@Telepather Took a while for the first one to reach that. 4 and 5 weren’t so great but I feel eventually they will get a lot of love. 6 was good to me, I just wish it would’ve unwrapped on that storyline long before that film. Would’ve helped

yes, lol. People crap on this movie franchise too much. But if you stop to appreciate what this franchise delivered? You'll learn to love Anderson's RE films. They may not have gotten every bit of lore from the games right(mainly do to Capcom not providing them with all the rights to the characters), but the protagonist they instead made up with, was absolutely good. Milla Jovovich did perfect as Project Alice, and was rightfully, a well written character
This is a cult classic at this point. The atmosphere and cinematography are one of the best.

@@connerg8941 In their defense, Resident Evil 2 was the best film of the franchise. It did a lot right. So for them to want to keep that Raccoon City element and try to get things closer to the source material is a good idea. The execution just didn’t work

I love Resident Evil as it's absolutely and positivity one of the greatest video game movie adaptations of all time. It was something new, fresh, unique, inventive, stylish, cool, edgy, hip, and updated such as the concept and theme. The story, performance's, music, action sequences, special effects, and cinematography was outstanding and incredible. It was such a fun rollercoaster thrill ride. You have a good time with this movie. Milla Jovovich did a phenomenal and spectacular job portraying Alice as she put tons of emotion and depth into her role. It was decent. To this day the ending still gives me chills and goosebumps 😰😱 and I still watch it and I consider it a classic. It never gets old.😍👍😎💯

Best Resident Evil movie out of the rest.
This movie is extremely underrated. Don't let yourself lump this in with the rest of the mostly bad movies this one was absolutely perfect. One criticism is it doesn't use the games characters, but I think it's better off for it. Especially after seeing most of the games characters be butchered in later movies anyway.

Another one of the famouse franchises that I've never played. I know absolutely nothing about the lore of Resident Evil. Only know a couple of the names of the characters like Chris, Wesker and Leon. But I've watched this movie, for the very first time acouple of days ago. 22 years after release and I gotta say... I liked it as a whole! The storyline was pretty cool, I loved the action scenes, there was a bit of emotion, you could feel the tense moments and wonder what was going to happen next. Some jump scares as well, really like those, lol. And ofcouse Milla Jovovich, what's not to love about her? But I didn't like the supporting cast... never been a fan of Michelle's as well. The visuals were old, but that's just coming from someone who saw it for the first time 22 years later lol. I felt that they could've done better in this are. But still, if you look past it it's still a good movie! This is an awesome entry in my 'Gamerverse", movies about video games...

Funny, i don't see people especulating and writing articles like they did then. Saying that it meant Ghost Rider was going to show up in Doctor Strange.

This movie was from 2002. CGI isn't great but the actors/actresses did a great job. I enjoyed watching this movie as a kid till the last movie in the franchise. Still better than the Netflix one.

Don't forget the Sonic movie which came out two years ago is also one of the besta adaptations of a video game

I think the movie is really good. Saw it 3 times in the cinema back then. It's not a 1 to 1 adaptation of the game, but it's a very good film.

Imagine Resident Evil had turned out very differently and Alice would have immediately risen up against Umbrella and found comrades all over the world, so that there would have been a constant battle between the world's population and Umbrella's experiments.
Alice actually wanted to storm Umbrella, but unfortunately this alternative ending to Resident Evil was not well received.
You could even have created a new secret commando that would have taken up the fight against Umbrella.
Unfortunately, it's a pity that Umbrella is portrayed in the film as being so overpowering and keeping the governments of the world under control that action is virtually impossible.
As separate films these movies were alright (personal favorites are extinction and the final chapter) but as a whole it was really cool

Remember being so excited the day this movie was released to theaters. Was a huge fan of the games and couldn't wait to see the movie. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't exactly like the games. But I still enjoyed it overall.

Red Queen is not homicidal as Glados from Portal game. She did that for the sake of outside while Glados killed all Apeture Science employees to run all test subject experiment in the test chamber by herself. Funny to say, Half-Life and Portal is more scary in terms of story progress compared to Resident Evil. Even Dead Space game franchise is even more scary than Resident Evil.
I finished the whole series and will watch it again.
