Just because there are no books or documents written in this unique dialect does not mean it is not a language. The only advantage that "suiwer Afrikaans" has over the language of the Coloured masses is that there are archives and archives of documents in this language. Which "legitimizes" it as an official language. What is not known is that the original Voortrekkers found us speaking this tongue while they were still Dutch citizens.
I do not agree. Dutch is a very old language, Afrikaans words are only slightly different from original Dutch as anyone can plainly see and read. Dutch and Afrikaans people can easily converse with each other. It is true that many Malay words did become part of Afrikaans, for example Blatjang and sjambok among others. All Afrikaans words are mainly from Dutch and can be found therein.
