Miao is a general name for all gho xiong, hmu, ah mao and hmong. These four groups have similar in everything. People may call us miao but the group "hmong" prefer to call themselves hmong. the other three groups prefer miao. which is all the same. In all four groups, their language is not 100% different from each other. Each group does understand a little bit from the other group.
Wow! Can anyone confirm if the translation onscreen is the Pollard Script of the Eastern Miao dialect. I've read about it but never seen it in use. I very much want to learn this "dialect" that someday I may communicate with our Miao brothers and sisters. Sadly the Eastern dialect is only 50% or less intelligible with "peb Hmoob" SE Asia Western dialect. Of course I will need to know "cov suab" of the Eastern dialect to be able to speak it fluently. :) Hlub thiab tshua nej sawv daws.
Historical records cite the "Miao" term as a designation the Han bestowed to non-Chinese ethnic minorities totalling 55 groups. Our Miao (Hmoob-Suav) brethens is one of the more populous. Miao literally means "young sprout", "root", or "grass" which some argue pertains to aboriginal. Some argue the "Miao" did not call themself by said term but is widely accepted in China. Hmong/Hmoob/Moob is mainly a SE Asia and Western term.

Learn to be unit of Hmong language and lyric spelling would you Miao. No matter where ever you are living we are hmong now not Miao anymore okey Miao.
