    Vinnie, this worked out better than I thought. My son-in-law really thinks I can read him better than ever, and he is scared of me! This might be a bit long: I started doing this with my son-in-law (I will call him Bob). I convinced Bob that I was good at reading people and learned through reading books on Psychology, Polygraphy, Behavioral Science, Gambling, etc...(provided names of obscure authors and textbooks). I ran him through this card trick three times, intentionally failing but very close. Once I had his card, I manipulated the deck enough to get very close to his card (same suit, within 2-3 points of his value, ect) each time getting closer, and explaining I am learning his "tell". I explained that to learn the "tell" the cards had to be inverted (half up and half down) so I could see the difference (Right/Left, Wrong/Right, Ego/Id, Yin/Yang, Good Movie/Titanic). Now I get it right every time, watching him and pointing out his "tell" after each round (a raised eyebrow, touching his face, shifting his stance...), all made up, of course. He has been trying to do it on me, (he knows the motions, but he hasn't yet learned the trick). I have extended that with the use of assets within his house (Grand Kids are cheap spies for a grandpa who can do fire magic!). So now I know where his hidden stash of cigarettes are, where he keeps his spare keys and such. Bob thinks it is because I can "read" him. Due to arthritis and such, I can no longer do false cuts and the like, so I replaced all his cards with marked decks (HA!), so now I don't even have to touch the cards to do this. But he keeps trying. So when my time comes, I will die a LEGEND! Perhaps I will leave instructions in my will. Nah. Let him wonder. Thanks. This makes me happy!

    I thought it used a key card, but I thought it was the bottom, not the top. My thought of it being a key card was just a guess based off the effect, but to sneak a look at the TOP card, not the bottom, smart!

    I actually have a very easy trick i made myself its pretty customizable so you can do what u want with it but this is how it goes:
    Step 1: get a decl of cards make sure there are no cards that are the same
    And let your spectator shuffle the deck
    Step 2: go trough the deck and let the spectator say stop give them there card dont look at it now cut the deck in two and let them put it in the cut look at the card that will be positioned above there card in the deck remember that card
    Step 3: go trough the deck with the card that you remember above the spectators card go from top to bottom carbbing cards of the deck intull you see the card you remember this now means that there card is at the top of the deck tell them that there card you have not you put on the table and its still in the deck
    Step 4 tell them to give a number between 1 and 4 they cant choose 1 now grab the top 2 3 or 4 keeping there card on top show them the cards since there card is on top remember that position while looking at the cards now u know what card they have and pull it out and give it to them i hope it wasn't complicated :)

    I'm loving this video and firstly thanks for it. My concern is the part where the 2 decks should be riffled/bridged, what if my spectator doesn't know how to riffle the cards?

  • @teckncal
    @teckncal 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I know a bit late to this upload and I might not get a response. But I’m failing to understand how this trick works reliably?? I’ve been doing slight of hand for a while but I’m still confused. There’s nothing stopping the spectator from shuffling the pack or washing the cards. How on earth does the cards maintain position to be able to tell. That key card could literally end up anywhere??

    • @WhiteVipor

      I’m wondering the same thing, even later than you though!

    • @BadBrucey
      @BadBrucey ปีที่แล้ว

      But in the trick there are only cuts after the riffle shuffle. The first cut will always place the chosen card as the first face up card after the key card.

  • @MadGoat
    @MadGoat ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How do you avoid bad cuts, if they can cut as many times as they want, isn't there a high probability of key and selected being separated?

    • @GregBreden
      @GregBreden ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It doesn't matter. If the cut removes the chosen card from under the key card there will be no face up cards under the keycard so you then search from the other end of the deck and the chosen card will still be the next face up card. Even if the cards had been right next to each other cutting between them would put the keycard on the bottom and chosen card on the top. As above, if you get to the end of the fan and have to go to the other end the chosen card is still the next face up card. Also bear in mind that another cut after that would put them right back together again. If you're cutting cards it's counter intuitive that the order always remains the same however many times you cut. The start and end point of the deck is all that moves. Get a single suit in order and try cutting a few times, you'll see that they remain in order. Always when you get to the end the order continues if you go back the start. It's kind of programmed in an audience that cutting the cards is a further way of mixing them up but it isn't really. It changes the position of the lost card in terms of how far it is from the front or back but not its position in the order of the cards.

    At minute 6:39 you say, "you don't want the spectator to take the top card." Why not? On the contrary, that would be the absolute super choice. Because you already know this card. You can now turn away, blindfold or whatever. Enjoy presenting the "miracle" appropriately.

    • @CraigFifer
      @CraigFifer ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In the suggested routine, you're not looking when the card is selected so you wouldn't know the top card was selected unless you get a second peek later.

    this are allways the best to throw magicians off. The most simple thing, key card just throw in some reversing thats it, we are wired to "know" how things work, but stupid reversing of half of deck throws us off, altrough EVERYTHING is the same as a classic key card (the most simple actually) only difference is some cards look other way.
    And it does work-
    Today, Im mostly fooled not by some knuckle busting super sleights, nor by new science physics gimmicks, im fooled by the most simple things that Ive learned among the first magic, like a crimp.
    If you present it goiod, you can DESTROY master magicians with a crimp.

    The pain point with this for me is that you offer all the different shuffles upfront then insist on the trickiest shuffle for most people during the performance. Perhaps dress the routine as a shuffling tutorial teaching them the ruffle as their initial shuffling handling

    • @BadBrucey
      @BadBrucey ปีที่แล้ว

      Same. I had to get an actual deck to understand it. Say the Ace of Diamonds is the key card on the bottom of the face up pile and the Ace of Spades is the chosen card on the top of the face up pile. When you rifle shuffle there will be now be one or more face down cards after the face up key card. Once you do the first cut the chosen card, Ace of Spades, will be the first face up card after the key card.
