"The idea of...frozen water bottles is brilliant." - thanks! I've been using it for nearly 3 months now simply because 2kg ice bags cost me NIS10 = about USD2.5.
Months ago I told my uncle I was going to use a heavy duty tote box for ice submersion, and he proceeded to tell me that it would rupture. Two days later on his day off, we went to a farm supplier and bought the 150 Gallon Rubbermaid. He’s the man of wisdom.

Keep getting stronger, brother, and cherish your blood as though every day may be y'alls last. 👍
@@keithb4077it depends on your size. I’m 6 1 and 230, a 100 gallon works perfectly fine. 150 gallon is if you’re really wanting room. I think 100 gallon is easier to get to the temp I want.
Buy a horizontal broken fridge. Heck if someone has it and the compressor is not reparable he probably give it to you for free just to get it out of the way. And their bucket is water proof and they have usually some form of drainage. If you find one with sliding doors like the ones that are in convenient stores even better. Best solution is to by a functioning horizontal fridge and make it easy for yourself. Buy a cheap one, few 00s of $s, big enough to sit in it, nothing fancy. You ll need one either way to freeze so much water every day. Even better find a closing 7/11 and buy a professional one but for the same price. They are heavy duty ones, and big, and they will last you for a while.
Pro tip for insulation, get a sheet of 2" thick styrofoam board, cut it out to be as close to the exact size of the top of the opening of the tub, then attach it to a sheet of plywood/MDF so that when you're not in the tub it will keep critters and bugs out, and can keep the cold in.
You can buy two and drill fill holes in the outside trough to put spray foam into and make it more insulated. That’s what I did. Totally worth it especially if you have more than one person using it at a time.
Down in Texas it takes about $20 worth of ice bags to cool the water to 48-50 degrees. After about 100 ice baths that’s $2000!! I’ve decided to invest into a chest freezer.
I used water bottle a few years ago but even with 2 cases it doesn’t get nearly cold enough. I also bought a freezer just for the bottles because 2 cases is a lot of freezer space, but they take more than a day to freeze solid once thawed out. It works ok if you do it occasionally and don’t want it really cold (depending on time of year and location anyway) I ended up buying an ice machine at Home Depot for a couple hundred dollars. Makes enough ice to get it to the low 40’s even in Texas summer.
I got one from Home Depot called Vevor or something like that for around $300. It says it makes 120 lbs in 24 hours but if you empty it as soon as it fills all day you might get 70-80lbs. It does a way better job than the bottles did because the ice melts all the way pretty fast where the bottles took a really long time to melt and often didn’t. Anyway, that’s my 2¢. I get mid 30’s to low 40’s every morning in the Texas heat.
Funny I bought the same two tubs. The first smaller tub was only $39 and I used straps to secure it so it wouldn’t bust (now use it for storage). The second one was $99 (same as yours) at Tractor Supply and it works great. Very sturdy and I am fully immersed. I do it with a friend for safety. We go for 11 minutes but will shoot for 15. I agree that while it is cold, you start to relax. Make sure you move around.
Why didn’t I think of the water bottles!!! Great tips. Just starting cold plunges. Been doing them from my bath but it’s super annoying to keep filling up. Lol.
If you guys have the budget I would strongly recommend buying a solid ice maker and some little bags to store the ice, gets my water to 8 degrees Celsius and I spend about $219CAD on it
Does this work if you just use the water bottles in the packaging? Also just FYI, staying still causes a sort of shield of warm water around your body. Its actually more intense to move around a bit because you prevent that shield from forming. Try it out and thank me (or hate me) later.
I just started the ice bath recently. Every time I did an ice bath, a bag of ice cost me a lot of money. In Florida, it's expensive. So I was thinking, "How can I do this with less expense?" Your water bottle idea was brilliant. Thanks a lot.
I just bought the 100 gal rubermaid stock tank and like it. It`s 25" high so that`s good and allowed me to get it through a doorway into my screened in porch. Note the drain plug is a plastic pipe with internal threads and external threads which allows for two size hoses. The internal is 1 1/4 and the external seems to be 2 inch pipe thread not 1 1/2. You can always reduce to 3/4 and use a garden hose. That just takes longer to drain. About 15 minutes if you need to drain the water away from the tank.
I’ve always been interested in ice baths but I couldn’t ever do it consistently because I had to buy 6 packs of ice, using water bottles is an amazing idea! I’ll try this method out tomorrow and let you know how it goes 👍
How long can you use the water in the tub before you need to change it out. Seems like it may start to grow mold or algae if you don't change it out. Maybe you can add some epsom salt to make the water last longer.
I found using a half dozen 32 oz Walmart seltzer bottles work. I cut the top quarter off so when dump in they come out like big ice cubes. Leaving in sealed bottle the ice insulates not giving full cold affect. When done full my open top bottles and into freezer. Those couple extra degrees cold I get makes a difference.
This is a great alternative the only thing with a cold plunge is that it circulates the water inside so it allows you to get the most benefits. If you get in an ice bath and don't move eventually you will warm up the water around you until you fidget or move around

@@stevegarthwaite9429 supposedly you can keep it in the jugs. So I went ahead & tried this out. For the money it’s a pretty good set up. I’m 5’10” & pretty much could fit my whole body in there but if I wanted to submerge my head too I wouldn’t have been able to do it but overall I’m satisfied with it.
@@takethepowerback83 i just used bagged ice. It comes to about $12 a week which I don’t mind & I haven’t had to change the water yet. It’s been about a week & it’s still clean
Very cool Nick ( forgive the pun). If you have real winters you can let the cold weather do the chilling process for you.I'm 66 and have been chillin' for a couple months. Makes me feel awesome.
In the fall and winter you could buy a submersible water heater and make this a hot tub. You could also make a foam cover for it to help keep it cool or hot longer.
You need roughly 100 water bottles to do this. And you have to clean the bottles and dry them to freeze them again. And they will lose water over time: it’s not practical.
Would layering two of the first tub (70gal HDX) you tried that didn’t hold the have worked? I liked that 70 gal because it would be easier to drop the temperature lower and faster with less water and based on you sitting in it at Home Depot it looks to be a perfect size. Anyone else try this? Or is there a reason it’s not doable?
Considering this very product for a DIY. How often do you have to change water? I see some people are putting in a chlorine wafer in a floatie. Hearing about 1 month before changing with regular use. What say you?
I want to try it out, but honestly i might just keep the bottles cased together still and just put my legs around ot or something so i dont have to scoop thek all out lol. Also might try using some big ice molds as well, or freeze a few empty milk jugs and leave them in overnight since i want to do it early morning before the sun is out so even it the summer it would already start out fairly cold
Where are you fitting all of these water bottles? You'd have to have a lot dedicated freezer space. I use a small chest freezer as my tub because it holds the water temp pretty well, and am thinking of getting a countertop ice maker to supplement what I can fit in my freezer.
William this is my favorite comment I’ve seen so far here! Really grateful for you! Subscribe to see my video testing the cheapest self cleaning and temperature regulated cold plunge I’ve found on the market!
Dang, nice idea.. regarding the water bottles.. What was the temp of your water at plunge time? I don't think one needs it to be 34 degrees especially if your just starting.. 50 would be cold in my estimation..:) I was looking into metal cattle troughs too.. ?? thx
Great video, are using the ice bath that you made of time you made this, if yes how is it holding up? Have you heard the the ice pod? I think right it’s about $100 maybe’s user ?120. Thanks
I love that!! Lot of water to use though I’d imagine, I like this bc it’s more sustainable, and when it’s time to dump I re-use the water for my arborvitae’s!!
The reason you start to have a feeling a warmth is cause your body makes like a warm bubble from you staying still. But if you move while in the bath your body can’t make the warm bubble and you stay feeling cold.
Did you take any water out of the bottles? Be afraid of them breaking after time. Either way I love this and doing it this weekend! Just gotta find a Tractor supply
Try big blocks of ice too!!! Both work really well but not everyone has space in their freezer for a 3-5L block of ice lol! Glad you enjoyed! Also: go check out the other video I just posted on how you can get a temperature regulated and self cleaning cold plunge for less than you spend on ice each month!!!
I tried discussing margins with ice barrel and they keep leaving me on read. It’s ridiculous the margins I bet they have. $1200 for something that I truly feel cost them less then $200 to manufacture might even be closer to $100. Shark tank would love the margins of them😂 like sell it for 500 you will get more sales overall and make more
It’s CRAZY what they charge. I wanted one so bad for the longest time but I am so happy I did this instead. Seriously the same thing 😂 they would do great on shark tank
I good chiller unit alone costs around £700-£1000. On top of that got bespoke tank and then all the pumps filtration and sanitation. Then the actual manufacturing process not to mention they need to make a profit
The stones just keep it from sinking down into the grass and ruining it (the tub when full is hundreds of pounds). And I change the water every 7-10 days, and only go in clean!!
aren't ice baths supposed to be in the low 40's or high 30's temp wise to get the benefits? Can frozen water bottles get it that low? Is there any kid of refrigeration/thermal exchange unit you could buy to put in there?
I am buying this same unit. I want to keep it filled outside for a while and cover the top to keep dirt and anything else from getting in. I am wondering what I should do to keep the water clean as long as possible so that I don't have to keep refilling it all the time. Maybe chlorine?

Okay so since I live in Florida and it’s 90 degrees during the day wouldn’t the water be so hot id have to dump it everyday lol?
Hi Nick, love the video do you add any chemicals to keep the water clear so you don't have to change the water a lot?
6:12. even the dog was uncomfortable during this moment.
😂
I bought a pod the pod company and it’s was only 108 bucks. It’s portable, insulated so holds on to the cold water for several days and has a lid
Bigger pieces of ice melt slower and apparently make the water colder as well, look into it with a follow up vid?
Frozen water bottles are a great idea. Cheers for the video
that ice water bottle is a genius idea. i was looking for cheaper ways and you just blessed me with one. oh how great is our God
I’m just here to share my knowledge with you, so thanks for the kind comment it’s great to have you here
i love how your dog listens to your voice, best companions
Very cool Nick ( forgive the pun). If you have real winters you can let the cold weather do the chilling process for you.I'm 66 and have been chillin' for a couple months. Makes me feel awesome.
This is a great idea. What about a lid? Also, do you filter the water at all or how often do you change the water in the tub?
solid back yard spot there, do a tour on your back yard
Hi Thanks for your video. If you leave this outside in the winter (im in NJ) to freeze, would it break the plastic?
You are a likable guy , I can’t say that about most . Thanks
William this is my favorite comment I’ve seen so far here! Really grateful for you! Subscribe to see my video testing the cheapest self cleaning and temperature regulated cold plunge I’ve found on the market!
I was thinking of doing this also, but using larger containers like milk jugs, since I have a large chest freezer
Thanks
Brilliant.
Doing the same with 150 gal.
I use my bathtub and frozen 2 liter bottles. Currently my build price is free. If I build an outdoor plunge I’ll definitely do something like this.
I love that!! Lot of water to use though I’d imagine, I like this bc it’s more sustainable, and when it’s time to dump I re-use the water for my arborvitae’s!!
How well does it work
Very informative. Will get to making it happen!
The reason you start to have a feeling a warmth is cause your body makes like a warm bubble from you staying still. But if you move while in the bath your body can’t make the warm bubble and you stay feeling cold.
how long can u use the water in the tub before needed to change ?
Did you take any water out of the bottles? Be afraid of them breaking after time. Either way I love this and doing it this weekend! Just gotta find a Tractor supply
Thanks for making this. Going to try it out.
Dude I just want to say thank you for the frozen water bottle idea that's the part I was having the most trouble trying to figure out great tip
Someone at Ali Baba will copy the Ice Barrel and sell it much cheaper.
@@mattp4079 Let me know when they do! I checked, nothing good yet lol
I good chiller unit alone costs around £700-£1000. On top of that got bespoke tank and then all the pumps filtration and sanitation. Then the actual manufacturing process not to mention they need to make a profit
@@chrismakara-howe9792 They don't have a chiller. It's literally just a plastic barrel. $1200
how often do you have to dump and refill the tub's water for hygiene?
Great idea ! Thanks so much
I'm curious to how long that water can stay in that tub. I just bought one and going to start plunging in it daily
TCold water blackout. Thank you for being honest. Some sales channels talk about how safe and never mention health checks.
how long does the cold water last in the tank? without putting any more bottles?
Great ideas. What are the stones for and how often do you have to wash the tub ?
The stones just keep it from sinking down into the grass and ruining it (the tub when full is hundreds of pounds). And I change the water every 7-10 days, and only go in clean!!
aren't ice baths supposed to be in the low 40's or high 30's temp wise to get the benefits? Can frozen water bottles get it that low? Is there any kid of refrigeration/thermal exchange unit you could buy to put in there?
Nope. 50-60 is all you need
How tall are you.
hey how many lter is that tube you buy i think its a storage box bin ?
Thank you for making this video. These health "experts" and their products are out of control with their prices. Geeez.
Like your description on how peaceful yet chaotic...what temp is the best? 35/40?
Will 2 cases of frozen water bottles bring the water temperature below 60 degrees F? Ideally, I want my plunge to be in the 40-50 degree zone.
This is awesome! Thanks for sharing
Your dog looks so cute and nice just sitting there
That stock tank is over £300 in the UK!
I am buying this same unit. I want to keep it filled outside for a while and cover the top to keep dirt and anything else from getting in. I am wondering what I should do to keep the water clean as long as possible so that I don't have to keep refilling it all the time. Maybe chlorine?
They sell covers for this on Amazon
