- Pro skateboarder vs Mountain bike - Can he clear a jump? I meet SLS skater Gustavo Ribeiro and get him riding a mountain bike in LA before I Skateboard and explore insane skateparks and street spots, would you ride here?
This is episode 3 of Sam Meets Swatch and I'm in the Californian city of Los Angeles to meet up with Professional skateboarder Gustavo Ribeiro who is an SLS street league competitor and incredible street skater. The idea of this video is to understand what it take to be a pro skater and too see if he can ride a mountain bike and clear a gap jump. We start off the video on a sick dirt jump trail overlooking LA, before meeting Gustavo at his local skatepark and getting into the action. We then hit up the new pump track in Inglewood before finishing off at an infamous street skating spot in central LA! Would you ride here?

The thing I've discovered about Sam during this Swatch series is that he's seems way better at other sports than other people are at his. What a ridiculously skilled chap he is.

@@christiancolaco8300 Not only that, he was skateboarding for a long time ago, surfing as well. Sure, Sam is a quick learner, but he also practiced a lot!

Sam honestly inspires me to be more positive in my interactions with others. I know some of it comes from being on camera…
But you can tell he has genuine interest in others.

I think this is the best person hes been partnered up with, they're both so hyped to see each other and try each other's sports. I just love it. 🤙
Sam and Gustavo definitely could feed off each other's energy and skills all day. Loved the pump track footage. That was just awesome to watch. Both their skills are next level and their fun loving attitude just makes it more enjoyable and Sam has a new skateboard trick in his kick flip. Gustavo's slow motion on that ledge just shows he truly is a master of the board. Lewi must have loved filming those shots. The skate park side by side flare and kick flip looked great. Awesome video guys.

Well and also, isn't it fun that after's Seth's latest episode about trails who been paved over to make maintenance easier and allowing it to be ridden throughout the year instead of only in a 'dry season'. People were asking for exactly this content, how would a skateboard do on those kind of trails.
Bit sad, this isn't on a paved trail it's mtb in a skate park.
Sam, next time ask a skateboarder to join you on a paved flow trail, I think that someone who can actually skate well would have a blast going down that

Aahh, the great helmet debate...
First, it's just super cool in general that the pro biking community unanimously wears them. When it comes to snowboarding and skateboarding, I asked a pro boarder about it once and he said that filming a video part is still creating artwork, and part of that art is the aesthetic of the rider; he felt that everyone on a snowboard kind of looks the same if they film their street sections with a helmet on. Some of them even go so far as to say that they land tricks more consistently and take fewer hard crashes when they're comfortable and happy with their outfit, which might include their favourite hat or toque or something like that. This guy had been a pro for 20+ years and witnessed 1 concussion in his entire filming career. I totally get why people wouldn't buy that explanation or think that's silly, but it's the most insightful perspective I've heard on it. The big response I'd have is that this isn't something that's very well-known, so casuals who aren't filming end up seeing it role modeled without understanding the difference between it being a career choice and a hobby. I've only ridden without my helmet when I've forgotten it and I feel more comfortable with it on so it's not going anywhere for style's sake, but I think that maybe educating young riders about why the pros do it but they shouldn't is a better way forward than just condemning it the way many people do now b

I used to skateboard as a teen, i was never off it, as i got older and after aquireing various age related health problems i swapped to bmx then onto mountain bikes, i ride when i can due to good and bad days, when im housebound these videos get me through but this video with my fav sam pilgrim and a pro skater having a sesh is a rare treat.
Sickest one so far Sam. I used to skate religiously in my teens into my 20's and now in my mid 30's I got my first full sus 29er and it's like I'm a teenager all over again I'm out on my bike everyday learning tricks, jumping gaps and just generally blasting about. Going to my first proper trail soon and I can't wait. Love the content man ♥

What i think is interesting is all the other athletes so far are not very skilled on a bike.. i always thought everyone who does action sports also rides a bike at least half descent. This was awesome. And I commented last few episodes you need to meet up with Matthias Dandois and as soon as you said your heading to Paris at the end there I knew it. Matthias is a heck of a BMXer, sure he's a multi gold medal winning Flatland champion, but watch his FlatStreet edits, he's blended the two, creating some of the hardest street tricks ever done by anyone. I really hope Sam learns some basic flatland, and they both ride some street and skateparks on BMX bikes, that and if Sam can get Matthias in the air on a mountainbike, that will be absolutely EPIC.

I’m a skateboarder and also getting into mtb (skatings still my main sport I’m only learning mtb) and so I watch a lot of mtb utubers and when I saw the title and the thumb nail my jaw literally dropped😂
I was so surprised at Sam ollie the gap jump. Didn't know that's part of his skillset.
Small suggestion: Maybe next time you have a skater guest in your video, try and find a doomer where you can ride the stairs and they can grind the rail at the same time. Might be hard to find a stairset that's compatible, but would definitely look sick af.

Stoked on this one I’ve watched Carlos parts a few times he’s like a skateboarding tech genius, it is strange knowing how to pump transition on a skateboard standing sideways you know what you want when you get on a bike but it takes a while for it to click.
