This was the digital signal on 8.1 - the left side shows the analog signoff that I recorded on Friday. Didn't see this until now - this was actually kind of cool, especially hearing the little sirens in the background when they killed the analog signal.
WRAL-TV 5 was, with an experimental signal in 1996, with a full fledged HD signal being established at the following year as well as the addition of HD cameras and equipment for their newscasts to become high definition to accompany the existing signal being done years later in 2000.
8 years ago on June 12th, history was made, Digital TV became supreme US law. And on June 12, 2017, history was made again, Golden State Warriors win the NBA finals at home
no it only counts up because they havent turned off the countdown so it was just saying for a few seconds that it has been x amount of seconds since the shutdown
Not true, people who had TVs without cable boxes had to rescan to remove the analog cable channels from their TV. At that time, cable networks were required to carry those analog channels by law. After that, they had to rescan a second time at some point, as cable companies repacked their spectrum to use the freed channels.
@@denelson83 The whoosh is you were unaware about basic cable, which was required by law at that time to not use any cable boxes. Otherwise your comment doesn't make any sense. So don't try to whoosh over your own ignorance, it just makes you look stupid.

Bold existed back in 2015?
And WFAA-TV was actually the first television station in the U.S. to put a digital signal on the air.
that is incorrect ! WRAL Channel 5 was the first tv station to broadcast digital and in HD
@@daltex81 No, what WRAL did was experimental.
