  • Best goals, skills and assists of the legendary Russian striker Eduard Streltsov. At the age of 21 he was imprisoned for 5 years, and he had missed further 2 years due to the official suspension. But even after that he managed not only to come back to professional football, but also to win Soviet Footballer of the Year twice and get a Ballon d'Or nomination in 1967, finishing 13rd (10 years after his last one - in 1957 he was voted 7th best player in Europe, aged just 20).
    The story of his imprisonment is full of holes and uncertainties and many believe that he was falsely accused - until this day his process remains one of the most controversial in Russian legal history.

    21.07.1937 Streltsov is born
    1954 Makes his Torpedo Moscow debut at only 16 y.o. (league record)
    1954 Becomes the youngest goalscorer in USSR league history (16 y.o.). He’ll score 4 goals in 22 games
    26.06.1955 Makes his USSR debut, scoring a hat-trick against Sweden
    1955 Becomes USSR league top-scorer with 15 goals in 22 games
    1955 7 goals in 4 games for USSR
    1956 wins the Olympic games
    1956 12 goals in 22 games for Torpedo Moscow
    1956 4 goals in 8 games for USSR
    13th in Ballon d’Or list for 1956
    1957 18 goals in 19 games for Torpedo Moscow
    1957 7 goals in 8 games for USSR
    7th in Ballon d’Or list for 1957
    1958 5 goals in 8 games for Torpedo…
    24.07.1958 Gets arrested, just 3 days after his 21th birthday. Sentenced to 12 years in prison.
    4.02.1963 Streltsov gets an early release from the prison. He can’t play professional football.
    1965 Brezhnev learns of his situation and grants him a full pardon - Streltsov is free to rejoin Torpedo for an upcoming season. He scores 12 goals in 26 games and leads Torpedo to an unlikely league title. Voted by the press as the second best Soviet player that season.
    16.10.1966 gets his first international cap since the imprisonment, 8 and a half years after his last game for USSR. He had missed 3 World Cups and 2 Euros.
