    Men of good sense and great taste - thank you for a terrific conversation. It’s always satisfying to hear Mind Games getting some love. As one of 3 records in my sister’s collection that introduced me to the Beatles (the others being Band On The Run and the 1972 Australian compilation The Essential Beatles), it has always been a favourite of mine.

    Ken & Beatley Tone...this was an excellent discussion. Thank goodness there are still folks like you that are providing deep and respectful insight into John's music. There are lots of other channels on TH-cam that seem to exist to promote inaccurate information and disparagement of John's legacy. You guys speak truth and offer thoughtful opinions. Keep it coming!

    I think part of the reason Paul’s doing ‘Now and Then’ live is that he’s been wanting to put it out for almost 30 years at this point, plus the whole thing with John’s supposed final words to Paul being something like “think about me now and then.”

    Fantastic show, I would have picked all of Beatle tones selections 👍
    I love all the Lennon Solo albums, at time of release I thought mind games was great, and couldn’t understand the mediocre reviews, i was in my early teens and love the songs on the day, and subsequently early Punk, but Lennon always topped the charts for me! The music press basically decided he was passé, and wanted him to be a rebel especially in the UK, ironically they trashed sometime in NYC, which was very edgy. I still to this day love The Rock and Roll album, it has a drive and you can hear how he was trying to recreate the sound of Hamburg. I wonder if this will be a box set ? Be my baby could have been a masterpiece? He did love Yoko and some people find this difficult, sadly nowadays if you read comments about Lennon it is often negative regarding his mistakes? For me I always felt he gave us truth, he told us he was not perfect he was confessional and i do believe he was embarrassed about his behaviour and consequently put down songs that brought this back to him ? A fascinating individual, perhaps for future discussion would he be accepted if alive today or would he be maligned for past actions, we live in different times? A lovely broadcast thank you both x

      Thnaks very much Tim. Glad you enjoyed the show. I very much hope there will a box set for Rock n Roll. Firstly because the album could really do with a remix and secondly there must be tons of out takes from the LA sessions (although how listenable they will be is another matter )

    what do you think of a combo box set of both Double Fantasy & Milk & Honey Since each album only had half John songs & half Yoko songs. Personally I wouldn't care if they excluded the yoko songs. I made my own combo CD with both of them that include just the John songs.

    • @beatleytonesbeatleschannel

      @@knockedoutloaded279 Was there ever a recording of Street Of Dreams? As much As I enjoy the Yoko songs on both albums, combining John's songs from both would make an amazing album. But the concept for Double Fantasy was that it as a dialogue between the two.

    I think there are two reasons regarding Grow Old With Me. The first is that it had been issued to the public. Secondly, the thematic undertones - three aging rockers fleshing out the work of their youthful bandmate - was probably too close to the bone.Considering the tensions McCartney and Harrison endured,this might have tipped everything over into less pleasant territories.

    I have to get this off my chest. The thing about "Aisumasen" that absolutely ruins it for me is how he blithely garbles the word "sumimasen". It is the most common word in Japanese (you literally hear it 100 times a day). It can be used to mean "sorry" in a casual way, but it usually means "excuse me" like if you step on someone's foot by mistake. For the kind of apology he means here, he really ought to be saying "gomen nasai" at least, which is a more formal apology. But leaving that aside, his refusal to learn how to pronounce "sumimasen" comes across as arrogant. It is a very easy word to pronounce, and most foreigners learn it in 30 seconds. Imagine if your wife kept earnestly telling you "Si Mossy" instead of "I'm sorry". It might be charming the first time she does it, but very quickly it would become annoying. You'd finally want to ask, "why can't you just say I'm sorry properly? It's not a hard phrase. Are you making fun of me and my language? Are you too arrogant to learn a single word of my language? Wtf?" For all we know, this song might have contributed to their breakup.

      What baffles me about this is that Yoko was aware of the song, obviously. Wouldn't she have tried to correct him?

  • @mikeysaint4368
    @mikeysaint4368 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This is the slowest and most dreary selection imaginable. Every song is the same slow tempo. It also highlights how, with Yoko, John's work in the 1970s was very mainstream, and not the wild experimentation John suggested would be his way forward upon the Beatles' breakup.

    • @kenmichaelsradio748
      @kenmichaelsradio748  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for writing, but I couldn't disagree more. Was the Plastic Ono Band album mainstream? It happens to ilustrate with some of these slow songs that John was great at writing ballads and bluesy tunes. Is the Some Time In New York City album mainstream to you? Some of my favorite Lennon songs from his Beatle days were slow (Julia, Across The Universe) which I consider brilliant, and I feel the same way about Aisumasen, Scared, Nobody Loves You When You're Down And Out) which Tone picked among his choices. And besides, music doesn't have to be experimental to be good. I'd rather hear a song that might be considred mainstream that I really enjoy, than an experimental one that I might enjoy less.
