Original is the person who takes the inspiration and creates in their own way...you and all the others inspire us to try things and keep those creative fires burning with the kindling of you videos...thank you Gayle...hugs from Minnesota ❤️🐇🐶
Hi Gayle, I had a tough night’s sleep. I think I ate too late. I have never heard any crafter say, “This is my idea and you cannot use it.”. I mean really, we are a very sharing community. All the videos I watch i learn from and often make what they show. Isn’t that what it’s about? Keep being you. Love to watch your videos.
Love that you share ideas with us but mostly love that you share yourself! You are so awesome and loved! Negative comments are from those who are sad. Focus on all the love people send you! Blessings!
When you use others ideas you ALWAYS tell us whose they are. That makes me go out to others artists on TH-cam and grow their communities. All helpful to the greater community of crafters. Thank you!
So true Gayle, most things have already been done before. I so enjoy seeing different takes on a process. It looks so different depending on who’s creating with the concept! Thanks for all you videos, so enjoy them!!!!! The journaling community is so sharing and creative.
I’m so ashamed I throw so many scraps away!!! Now I know what to do with them! Wow 365 videos a year, you are amazing. Plus look at that ticket paper clip, totally an original idea! I love your comment stating that this community is all about sharing I completely agree. We take what we see and adapt it to our own liking. In addition you always mention who inspired you, so you always give credit, where credit is due. Great inspiration in all your videos, thank you!
You have to choose who you watch on YT. I would never see half the ideas if I had to watch all the videos out there to get new ideas. As you said, everyone adds their own flare to the ideas of others. Thanks for your inspiration!
Gayle you bring joy to so many people with your take on ideas. Aren't we all watching so we can "steal" your ideas. What I like to do is to look at all similar videos to see the variety of interpretations. Keep up your amazing work. From New Zealand
HiYa Hunny Bunny! I do so agree with your analysis of creating with other people’s ideas...many of the ideas that I see all across TH-cam are things that I can remember learning as paper crafts as a child... weaving cloth strips together to make a journal cover, that one reminded me of weaving paper strips together to make a placemat as a child... slow stitching tutorials remind me of the embroidery stitches I learned as a child...snippet rolls are skinny scrappy quilts...the list goes on! And, it is so true that no two people will ever create the identical item... our creativity stems from using an idea and adapting it in our own unique way...hugs to you...take a nap...20 minutes will help you to feel refreshed...have a wonderful day...❤️❤️❤️
I love your work and always come back to watch, whether you did it first or not because you always give credit where it is due. You crack me up with all your little sayings. “Talk amongst yourselves” is one I’ve always used too. Keep sharing your love Gayle. 😻
You know, much as most of us want the whale tail punch ( myself included!) you can get a very similar look with an oval punch ( 2 inches works for me) folded in half so its narrow ends meet, and a small circle punch ( 0.5 inch-ish) to nip off the corners on its flat edge. As for that comment you got Gayle!! Wow! The crafting community, the junk journal's, are such a friendly bunch of people, honestly the nicest community i've been involved with, we love our chats, and sharing what we've made and discovered. I look forward to popping in to visit you each day and seeing what goodies you have discovered and hearing how your grand-babys are doing and how well Jimmy Joe is socialising now the quarantine isnt SO bad......yup, putting my soap-box away now...unless anyone else wants to use it? lol. HUGS.
I love this! I tell people the SAME thing...tutorial literally means to teach and people in our community teach techniques to share new ideas so others can learn and use them in journals...That is why I love this community so very much (one of the many reasons) .. There are so many amazing creations and so many different things to do. Junk journals have come a long way because of shared ideas!! TFS lol
Cool ideas😍 One of the things I love about this community of crafters and artists is the sharing of ideas and information. It sparks creativity and births new and innovative ideas. This sharing and exchange of information creates relationships, strengthens community, and adds to the richness of life❤️
Yours, mine, ours. That's what community is all about. You are always really good about giving credit and promoting other people's channels. I find that to be true with a lot of junk journalers. That's how I found you. Amy at Crafty Cat kept talking about Gayle and Denise, Gayle and Denise.... until one day she gave your full name and the rest is history. There is room for everyone here. Thanks again for sharing. Loved all the ideas on using up so many scraps.
I have a book called “Steel like an Artist” , it talks about how everyone copies each other to learn and then yes you star doing your own thing! Also you are very good about giving credit from where you saw it!
You are so right Gail...inspiring videos in this community are the videos that show others how to create...how to make and try something new and different...I no longer watch videos of youtubers that only show their finished products because heaven forbid we take the idea and make money off of it...there are plenty of amazing junk journal makers and enough buyers of those journals to go around. We’re all looking for inspiration..thank you time and time again for sharing!!xo
Being a teacher for years, we would always steal each other’s ideas. We considered it a compliment to the other teacher to use their ideas. There are even websites that sell ideas to teachers. I so appreciate you giving all of us your take on projects. Your response was perfect.
And you always give credit to the people who you have seen do the particular project. You are very kind and fair and you deserved the lovely gift from ceri the crafter, I cried along with you.
When my Mother couldn't go back to sleep, she would get up and bake cookies! Drove my Father mad...the noise and the wonderful smell! lol If I can't go back to sleep I sometimes get up, make a cup of tea and catch up on YT videos...then go back to bed. It works for me. Lordy, I haven't had an original idea since I started out on this junk journal adventure and I have no guilt about using someone else's idea and adding my own twist. I'm grateful for their idea. BTW....I totally intend to do the over-the-page paper clip you did.....just sayin'.....lol
Haha, I have a friend that says that all the time! “Just sayin”… lol Sometimes I set my phone to play a video of my favorite crafters like Gayle here, Luise Heinzl, or Pam at the paper outpost and the timer to “stop playing” after 30 min or so… works like a charm because their voices are soothing. Then if I missed something, I just watch the video again during the day.
Gayle I enjoyed this video today as everyday , I love all the little things you made, I get all my ideas from you, if I didn’t I wouldn’t be doing anything, you are the best, I make scrapbooks and now I do the journals.Thank you for sharing. Joan Young🙏❤️
Every great artist becomes great off of the backs of the artists before them. Not at their expense, but as a foundation of learning. You can’t copyright an idea. Even if you copyright a creation, you have little control over how people use it in their art. Copyright laws do not extend as far as some crafters like to say they do because they haven’t done their research on how the laws actually work. Every country is different too. What we do here is share ideas, and share ideas that came from other ideas. This is a good thing. I barely have time to spend in my craft room, let alone, make 360 plus videos a year. You are a rockstar Gayle!
I love your videos.I am in agreement. The makers would not show off their creations if they didn't want to inspire others and share ideas. Each thing creative by hand Is unique and one of a kind.
Somewhere I heard, watched or something....thank good ness for people like you sharing. Any way.... put your punches that are stubborn in the freezer. I can’t explain it, but it works! I leave them in over night. You will have to repeat this after use time and time again. Thank you for sharing with all of us. Blessings
Just keep doing your videos like you always. That's one of thing like about your videos you always share where you get your ideas and etsy shares too love those!!
Your answer to owning ideas was delivered with kindness and grace. I enjoy this jj community because it is about sharing ideas and supporting each other throughout our creative journey. Girls just want to have fun!
I was just going to say, right as you were saying it, even if we make the same item each will be very different from another. Also not everyone watches all of us so it's a great way to spread a great idea. You always tell us where you got the idea and I think it is great!! Thank you for all you do for ALL of us Gayle. Love ya, Amy💕😺
Scraps are never ending..lol, glad your showing more ideas what to do with them. You gave an idea on using my decorative punches to make the paper clips. I use the punches on my signature pages; it’s always so nice have many uses for them. You can purchase the We R Memory Keeper trimmer on their website too. I put my scraps in a heavy accordion folder to keep them from not bending, the bigger pieces. Very grateful your sharing many ideas. 👍🌻🌻🌻
We watch your videos to Craft and have fun with you and learn☺️♥️. You are great about giving credit and respect from where the Craft idea came from anyway. I need to find some butterfly punches because I love them!!♥️ I need to look at punches when I am in the Craft Stores and pick up a few basic ones for Ephemera making.🤩
I have decided I want to start making junk journals (because I don't have enough hobbies already :) ) and I'm in the "watching TH-cam video to get ideas" stage. I'm so glad I found your channel. So many great ideas. And no, I won't feel bad using them, because I'll take your ideas and make them my own. It's what we creative, crafty people do! Thank you for all that you share!
there is always so many scraps!!! I totally agree with you on original ideas etc. It is hard to come up with any and hard to know where things originated from.
I am learning so much from watching you and listening to your suggestions and ideas. A couple of total newbie questions: 1) what is "Fussy Cutting"? 2) Are you using frosting tips on your glue containers? 3) What are some examples of how you sort/name your 'scrapping/paper' items - for example ... a container (large baggies) of small die-cut items, card stock scraps, ?" Thank YOU for sharing your talent and taking the time to teach while you do !!
Great ideas! Glad you are the way you are, Gayle! And that your videos are showing us great ways to make our journals better. So keep on my friend and always share what others do. It has taken me to new channels and I have subscribed so you are helping other channels grow also.
Love everything you did today as always! Teacher's get the best ideas from each other and the difference between the finished product is wonderful! Besides we learn better from some people than from other artist. I enjoy watching certain people thier style and personalities. I certainly don't want to waste time sorting through every person to find out all the different techniques that I'd like to learn. Our #MondayMindlessWonderChallenge is exactly this kind of thing. We state in the instructions we look forward to seeing what everybody else can come up with from the video we post. Sharing is caring. If we only used our original ideas like people who think only inside the box we'd have very dull existences. Keep up the great work, I adore your style, art, humor and friendship! Namesta sister in crafting.😙🦋❤️🌼🌻🤗🐝🥰🐞😘
Funny, I was just using up my scraps yesterday in a similar way. You've probably already thought of this but I unmounted all my roller stamps and used cling foam so that i can use them without having to worry about them rolling straight. Also makes them easier to store. Just a thought, not that you asked LOL. Love all of your videos!
I use my painted papers and patterned paper to cut out labels and butterflies, Gayle. I sometimes combine the labels, after embellishment, with bookmark-size strips of cardstock, that can be attached to a page or actually used as a bookmark. I loved your ticket, by the way.
I love to watch you....and Rachel w/Roxy Creations and Andrea w/Artymaze and so on and so on. I have tried many of your ideas and theirs. Just seems like mine never ever look the same. Is this my creative side coming out or my inability to follow directions. Not sure....yes I attempt to copy what you all do, it just seems to take on a twist of its own. This is what all of you do. With much more success than me, but we each take a general idea and make it our own. Love the beautiful way you answered this question. Keep crafting, we’re watching. TFS❤️
Hi Gayle!! I love what you did with your scrap cardstock!! All of them are good examples!! For your narrow long strips, I have small flower punches that I would have used on those!! TFS!! Hugs, Liz:)
Most the things in all the journals I've made have come from others ideas. I'm so grateful for this community that shares their ideas so freely. Thanks to you and all the other TH-camrs that taught us so much!
Me again... I am watching you stamp those little circles...here’s a shared idea...I recently purchased some fabric sports tape, the kind that athletes use to wrap an injury...I have the three inch rolls... I got them at a Flea Market in PA., our family lives in a nearby town...I turn the tape inside out on itself, sticky sides together, and then I stamp with my smaller stamps onto the fabric, trim the excess and use them as embellishments...they add just a little color...I have used postage style stamps, Tim Holtz ticket stamps, word stamps, floral stamps, mandala style stamps, etc...I don’t think they would machine stitch well, the tape is sticky, VERY sticky...have fun...❤️❤️❤️
Speaking for myself, I don't keep score of who comes up with what idea for junk journaling. I'm just grateful for all the fantastic ideas I see from the TH-cam contributers whose videos I watch. If I watch three different journalers use the same project idea, I have the delight of seeing three different approaches used on a common theme. Your style, Gayle, is different from that of Roxy Creations' and then Crafty Cat's is different from the both of you. I may see a bit from all three of you that appeals to me. And, sometimes, seeing all these different approaches inspires me to come up with my own ideas to use. I think I speak for all the viewers when I say thank you for your take on established designs and, please, keep the ideas coming! Those individual approached help the rest of us with our journaling as well. I learned something about my printer last week that helps me use up scraps of paper. I print on cream card stock like you do. And, that creates small pieces of paper I thought were useless. My printer is a Canon Color Laser Printer and I discovered how to define paper size for my own needs. When I have a small piece of paper, I can still print on it so long as I match the size of the file print to the size of the paper. This will save me a bunch of money spent on paper. I can now use those small pieces that I used to just throw away.
Looks like a very productive day, its always nice to sort through some scraps and have ready made stuff. Thanks for sharing and hope you get some rest. Take care!
Hi gayle. Happy scrappy saturday to all. Making scrap snippets as you are working. Received my first mixed media Minnesota kit. Very pleased. Had a three pack of destress crayons. Went to Tim Holtz You Tube. Great video on how to use. He made a mixed media tag using the crayons. Going to try it with my new paper. Thanks for showcasing mixed media Minnesota July kit. Have a great day!.
GAYLE...I have 5 yes I said 5 large tubs of scraps. I will never get through them all but thanks for these ideas. Might take me years but I will try and start before making any more journals. OR...I could send them to you. I'm not that mean. Love your work!!!!!!!!!
HI Gayle. Thanks so much for your comments about using others ideas. I was getting frustrated that I couldn’t come up with my own but its good to know that its not uncommon. ❤️
That was fun, I used up some scraps with a couple of punches. I agree it's hard to be original. Most of the time somewhere somebody already came up with the idea. But it doesn't matter, it's all about sharing idea's and putting your own creativity into them. That's what I love about this community, everybody shares so generously not only their idea's, but also their time! 💕
I have decided that I need to dedicate one hour a week to play with scraps. Some weeks I don't even make it to my scrap room, but surely I can find and hour to play. Be assured that I will be listening to you while I create. Thanks for all you share and the stories you tell. xxxxxx
While you may be using another person idea, you are sharing your own tips and design possibility...and giving us each a sense we too can do it. That is an exhilarating feeling to have that sense that I too can create pretty ephemera and while copying the thought process, making it my own design. Nothing turns out the same twice anyway. But, I always try to give credit to where I saw it first. I still feel like a teenage newbie as I learn in each video I watch!
For those cute paper clip tickets, you might want to try cutting the paper scrap strip to twice the ticket height, fold in half, then punch the open ends together, then turn around and punch the folded end, so the punch pattern matches. Thanks for sharing!
Almost at 40 thousand stubbies! 🎆Well done! I find when I give my ideas away, it forces me to be more creative. When I see something new it also re-inspires me. We are a crafting community!
I get so many ideas from you ladies. Seems like I cannot come up with an original idea to save my life. Even if I try to make something similar to yours it turns out so different. Thank you all for your different takes on similar ideas.
Love all these ideas today. Gives me some great ideas of what to do with my cardstock pile. I agree, watching the videos gives us ideas and then we take and put our own spin on it. Like you, I try to remember where I got the idea, announce their name and put into the description box. I finally had to start a book to keep notes in.
Uh, we wouldn't have the world we have without copying. Evolution is all about taking the copy and tweaking it a bit to see what works. If it works, it gets tweaked some more, and so on. I took your envelope idea and butted two of them together to make a sort of long booklet, and voila, I had a new idea based on your idea. I was just thinking that I miss your idea journal vids. Anywho, another great Scrappy Saturday that has inspired me to get out the punches I hardly ever use. Keep up the good work, Gayle!
I have never thought you just 'use' others ideas .. you "showcase" them. No one talks about other crafters/ artists, digital artists or youtubers as much as you do. I'd be still in the dark about this wonderful sharing community if it wasn't for you and your approach/philosophy to it all. I've learnt some life lessons along the way too 😊 #inspiration. ❤
Oh Gayle, I love watching and listening to you! Some times you will make something I know I won't make, but it inspires me to make some thing else, Or I will check out a few other videos from other people and eventually I will come up with my version of something. If I didn't watch crafting videos I would never get anything done! My mind goes blank when left to my own ideas! LOL And why is that lady even watching you for if she isn't going to "steal" your ideas!!! Keep making videos!!! Love, Patti
Hi Gayle! Loved everything you made with your scraps today. Lots of wonderful ideas. With school back in session I don't get to watch until evening usually so enjoy getting to watch you in the mornings on weekends. Still have to get my "Gayle fix" everyday! Have a blessed day.
I love scrappy Saturday! I am always on a mission to use my scraps. I have an idea for you concerning the full sheets of pink cardstock... or any other “ugly” cardstock or patterned paper: use for collage bases as you would use your book pages. They make nice sturdy bases and don’t seem to warp as much as book pages do. I have finally used up a ton of vividly-colored cardstock this way, and I know I wouldn’t have used it otherwise!
So much inspiration today...loved all your ideas!! I can't wait to get in my craft room....but have laundry and cleaning to do after being on the road. 2670 miles we racked up in 3 weeks!! Amazing wonderful trip except for one stop we weren't able to make! 😉 Thank you Gayle for being here every morning for us...love having coffee with you. 💜
Gayle, the 2nd butterfly punch that you used is made to punch that way. It is so you can punch on a page and have a demensional ( sorry for the spelling) butterfly on the page.
Just watching this one and would like to say that although you use ideas from other crafters, you make them your own. I have watched a ton of these lately from many different crafters; none of these projects look alike, they are all as unique as each of you. I love that you|we feed each other’s creativity. It cool because it shows are originality.
Gayle, just found your channel and love your ideas on making embellishments with scraps. I'm looking forward to seeing how you use them tomorrow. TFS. I have also subscribed to your channel.
Some really fun, simple ideas in this video Gayle. Love them!!! A great reminder that I need to make some bases for the ‘Over The Page Paperclips also. I really love the stamped butterflies. Was thinking about your circular stamp while I was watching... if you want a straighter impression for something using your pencil, you could try either holding your fingers closer to the wheel, or placing a couple of small rubber bands on either side to hold it steady. For this particular project though I don’t think it really matters. I also really love the ticket paperclips you made. Simple and beautiful!!! TYSM for always inspiring!!! Big hugs, Sharon 🌷💜
Original is the person who takes the inspiration and creates in their own way...you and all the others inspire us to try things and keep those creative fires burning with the kindling of you videos...thank you Gayle...hugs from Minnesota ❤️🐇🐶

So many great ideas. And no, I won't feel bad using them, because I'll take your ideas and make them my own. It's what we creative, crafty people do! Thank you for all that you share!
I’m glad you’re here, Michelle! And excited for you to begin your journal adventure! It’s just so much fun!! Hugs to you! ❤️
there is always so many scraps!!!
Nice way to use up scraps. The ticket paper clips are a cute idea.
HI GAYLE-I HAVE ENJOYED YOUR VIDEO VERY MUCH-THANKS FOR YOUR IDEAS-HAVE A LOVELY DAY-HUGS/BLESSINGS
I just love my coffee with Gayle
I love my coffee with you too, Debbie! 😁😘❤️
That’s what I call it to lol. “ don’t bother me I’m having coffee with Gail” 😂
Love your videos. You are so clever. Have a good retreat.
TFS❤️
Lovely ideas, thanks again Gayle
Loved how you used up scraps
Thanks so much for inspiring me with ideas - you are wonderful at that. I guess the almost 40,000 subbies might steal these ideas!
Love these ideas!!! Thank you so much Gayle!
Hi Gayle!! I love what you did with your scrap cardstock!! All of them are good examples!! For your narrow long strips, I have small flower punches that I would have used on those!! TFS!! Hugs, Liz:)
Love these ideas...😻
Most the things in all the journals I've made have come from others ideas. I'm so grateful for this community that shares their ideas so freely. Thanks to you and all the other TH-camrs that taught us so much!
Enjoyed every project. Very inspiring. Thank you!
Hi Gayle, I really enjoy scrappy Saturday. I get good ideas on how to make things for my journals . Thanks . Have a great weekend.💞🌸💕
I love scrappy Saturdays. I'd guess alot of us would love more using up scraps videos. Those ticket paper clips are awesome. Hug Jimmy for me.
That question was kind of snarky. You gave a wonderful measured answer. I admire that.
HI Gayle. Thanks so much for your comments about using others ideas. I was getting frustrated that I couldn’t come up with my own but its good to know that its not uncommon. ❤️
Journal making is a place to share and experiment with the ideas you learn from others and as we do from Gayle learn to be creative and have fun.
Thanks for all you share and the stories you tell. xxxxxx
Taking stock of what we have and reorganizing/creating is very therapeutic. I did my fussy-cutting while watching today~
I think I will see what I can come up with my scrapes. Thanks for sharing. Have a wonderful day.
I love your fwend Judy's comment "cross pollinating", thats just perfect 😅😅 just like you ! Perfect 😍
So many great ideas! Thank you, Gayle. I am drowning in scraps!
TFS these Awesome ideas for the card stock!! Blessings!❤️
Lots of good ideas
Yeah Scrappy Saturday. 👍
Thank you for sharing some great ideas. It’s easy to forget all the things we can do with scraps. Love the Scrappy Saturday
You’re the best, Joey! ❤️
Great idea, Tanja! ❤️
Glad you’re home safe and sound! That was a whopper of a trip!! ❤️
Just WOW!
Gayle, the 2nd butterfly punch that you used is made to punch that way. It is so you can punch on a page and have a demensional ( sorry for the spelling) butterfly on the page.
Happy Saturday Gayle and friends!
Just watching this one and would like to say that although you use ideas from other crafters, you make them your own. I have watched a ton of these lately from many different crafters; none of these projects look alike, they are all as unique as each of you. I love that you|we feed each other’s creativity. It cool because it shows are originality.
ohhhhh!!!! I want one this...
Love the tickets!!! Hugs💕
Gayle, just found your channel and love your ideas on making embellishments with scraps. I'm looking forward to seeing how you use them tomorrow. TFS. I have also subscribed to your channel.
Welcome to my channel! I’m so glad you’re here! ❤️
