I went caving in Fern cave in the mid 1970’s, when I was about 16. I went with 2 brothers who were registered spelunkers, along with some other experienced cavers. I don’t remember which entrance we used; but I remember we hiked about a mile to get to the mouth of the cave. Along the way, we passed an older couple with shotguns riding in a horse drawn cart who told us to beware of a bobcat that was nearby. We explored 5 or 6 caves back then; but Fern Cave was my favorite. Thank you for the excellent footage. It brought back many memories. I really enjoyed the adventures so many years ago. Wish I was still that nimble. I still can’t believe my mother let me go!
Thank you so much for the video. I am reading Merlin Tuttle's book about exploring Fern Cave to see Grey Myotis's winter hibernation spot. It's hard to imagine what the cave looks like just by imagination. Your video helps me a lot!
Incredible footage. That's an amazing cave system. Definitely a more alluring, easier going entrance than the other, at Surprise Pit. Hope I get to cave this someday!
I'm sorry, but I found the music terrible, especially when it gets loud enough to turn down the volume. I always wonder what makes it necessary make me listen to music when you, the videographer get to hear the water sounds or just the sounds of silence... Other wise good video with great cave scenes.
Some of the best video footage I've seen from the cave I've come to admire.. and respect.
Took the words right out of my mouth! Amazing.
And Steve was wearing more than just shorts and a t-shirt for a change

I would have loved to visit Fern when I was caving, never got the opportunity. Thanks for sharing!

If you knew what it was like caving with Hazel and Rachel, then you'd understand the need to drown that out with music.
Now, which way was the entrance?
Does anyone have a video or pics of the Fern Sink Entrance?
Did you guys do Surprise Pit?
Not this trip.
How much of this cave is explorable to the public through SCCi?
