Kolok means 'Mix & Stir'....in the olden days in Sarawak, people use to say 'Kolok-Kolok Mee'. You should try the cakes / layer cakes, in Sarawak there are Hundreds & Hundreds choices of different kind of taste, colours, pattens to try, some looks too pretty to take a bite on it....its a signature Sarawak sweet delicacy. Never leave Sarawak without buy some of these cakes back. In any festivities in Sarawak, people serve their guest with these cakes to celebrate the happy occasion. Sarawak Laksa the real secret is the 'herbs soup', prawn must be fresh too.

@@henryfly2984In term of presentation Kek Lapis Sarawak is one of the best looking traditional sweats. Its so colourful. Some of our local dish/sweat taste great but dont actually perform in presentation.I think its great to attract foreigners since taste is a mystery only solve after u taste it.So the overall colourful look really give an extra advantage to Kek Lapis Sarawak.
I also tried some failed effort to this unique kek in the past. Its look good, but the taste are way off. They only manage to replicate the look but not the taste. But the look have indeed deceived me.
So now, whenever I feel sudden crave of Kek Lapis Sarawak I always go to one trusted source only.If not available, it is a MUST for me that it is being bake by Sarawakian.
Paying a little bit higher is acceptable if the taste is great. The worst case scenario - Nice box + nice look + premium price + sell at premium shop BUT TASTE A TOTAL FAILURE.Feel like a total scam. 😡😡

Kolok mee is the corrupted name for Chinese “Kon lo” mee, which means dry mee.
It is normally served with BBQ pork and spring onions.
You must be eating the noodle in a Malay shop - that’s why it is accompanied with chicken instead of BBQ pork.

Whenever you can, please visit Kuching, Sarawak. There are hundreds of stalls for laksa and kolo mee, each has its own uniqueness and taste. The highly recommended place for laksa is Chong Choon and Choon Hui (Anthony Bourdain had the one from Choon Hui). The kolo mee there is nice too, and popiah. Best kolo mee (at least for me) is at Sin Lian Shin, run by generations, you either love it or hate it, taste of pork lard and shallot oil makes it another breakfast/lunch/dinner of heaven.
In KL, you can visit Lin Li Xiang (LLX) and try their kolo mee, non-halal. By far, this is near to authentic taste of Kuching. Get a bottle of their Sarawak White Pepper too, the most aromatic white pepper in the world!

Chu, if you come to Kuching remember to order the red version of Kolok Mee (Non-Halal) topped with char siew. Its the best. Sarawak Laksa, nonhalal or halal all similar in terms of ingredient. King Laksa is recmmended.

I’m from Sarawak. So happy to watch Chu bro enjoy our local food. To travel to Sarawak it takes almost 2 hour by plane. If you’re really in Sarawak next time, I recommend you to try another famous noodle here called Kueh Chap, one of favorite local delicacies that Sarawakian love as much as Kolo Mee & Laksa. Kueh Chap is a mix of Flat Rice Noodles (known as Kueh) in a pork stew where the soup is made with dark soy sauce, consisting of various pork innards and different parts of pork meats. While the ‘Chap’ literally translate to Mix.
